LOVE this small music venue that sometimes hosts BIG names! There is not much seating (unless you buy VIP tickets), so most people are standing and it can get pretty packed (this place is not for you if you're claustrophobic), but you're right up next to the stage with prime viewing locations available for affordable ticket prices. I saw Bowling for Soup (remember the song "1985" from the early 2000s?) just a few feet from the band, and it was a phenomenal show for an affordable $35 at the door. Drinks are about $5 and very reasonable too. You're in for a fun night with Southport Music Hall! read more

Event date 10.19.24 We recently had my son and daughter in laws wedding reception and I can't say enough great things about our experience with the owner (Jay) and the venue. Jay was wonderful he was there before the wedding making sure everything was just right, during the wedding and after. The hall was beautifully decorated and Jay was so easy to work with. Our experience exceeded my and our families expectations. I would defiantly recommend Southport to anyone looking to have a wonderful wedding, private event or just a big party. My favorite venue to see music and I'm lucky it's right by my house! They always have fun shows and friendly, efficient bartenders. The bathrooms are spacious and clean. If you reserve a VIP table it's the makings for a great night. I like the outdoor deck space for in between sets and normally the shows are very decently priced. Sometimes a well known band will do a local show there and when they do, that's a real treat. read more

Reading up on the history of this place, the epicenter of the gambling underworld in New Orleans for many years!! Now with a great sound system. Talking to friends they told me they used to play pool here. I came here to see an industrial band called PigFace a few weeks ago. I was told they have a lavish green room for the bands including washer/ drier for doing laundry (???) and a place to hang out before/ after a show. The place has history, even haunted by a legendary ghost that hangs out at the bar and the back lavatories. Being a veteran ghost hunter with Louisiana Spirts, he didn't like me, and scratched me above my left ankle while i was there. Nonetheless, the sound system did not displease, it was great! I work in the sound business and the system in here did not require me to wear earplugs, I didn't walk out of here with my ears ringing. My friends and I showed up and they had pizza for $3 a slice, albeit expensive, kept us from having to walk down the road to another place. Industrial dudes like us dress in all black which would not have boded well for walking the highway. The drinks were mixed well, to compliment the pizza. All in all a great experience. I had a lot of fun and I want to go back. Will be looking for shows there in the future. If you're a conspiracy theorist into Jimmy Hoffa and the JFK assassination, you should check out the history on their website, very interesting. When you go, be sure to see the solid bronze door to the counting room where the mob used to count the money for all their earnings. Very cool place, should be on registry of historic places in New Orleans. read more

My friends and I went to an event for Jack Daniel and iHeart Radio ...Rise From The Fire... fundraising for local Firefighters. The venue is small but big enough to fit a good amount of people for a intimate live concert vibe. They have a good amount of seats outside for people who needs to get some air or just to smoke outdoor. There are plenty of parking but it kind of tricky to get out once everyone are parked. One less stars for the restroom stall. Only two but they do have additional somewhere else in the back if I'm correct. read more

I got invited to go hear live music here. Seems like a nice place and crowd. The band was an average cover band doing top 100 hits - not worth the $10 cover charge at all. This place is worth a visit if you can get a drink. I have to say- these are the absolute worst bartenders I have ever seen. I waited for ten minutes for a beer with my money out too. He kept waiting on whoever walked up around me. I don't expect perfection but after ten minutes I finally gave up. Of course they kept my $10 door charge. THE. ABSOLUTELY.WORST . BARTENDERS EVER!!!! Great venue with access off of River road. Watch out for afternoon traffic during weekday events!!! Right down the street from Ochsner Main Campus!!! Great access with huge ramp accessibility to transport equipment inside. Great for parties and receptions. Good for "small musical" events. Separate bar areas to stage food and drinks away from main event area. (1) large bar in the main event area and (1) small in-house bar attached to outdoor patio area. In-house house food options were amazing!!! Service by in-house staff was first-class. Everyone was greeted with a smile and staff was eager to help. Went to a professional party, where there was fried, catfish, jambalaya, party meatballs, shrimp, Alfredo, crawfish & corn bisque, chicken skewers, Caesar salad bowl, fruit, Etc.... Once upon a time, this was Farhad Grotto (which I think has something to do with the Masons) and the location of the scariest haunted house that I ever attended. Seriously I freaked out and attacked one of the "monsters" and then dragged my brother out of the room. Yes, I was 10, but this is why I don't go to haunted houses. Anyway, before it was Southport, before it was the Grotto, it was an old gambling hall because it's just over the Jefferson parish line from Orleans parish where it was illegal. So consider the history when you next go see a band or go drinking there. The venue is good for music and the space is wide open with high ceilings. I've never spent much time at the bar, so I can't really comment on that. Minus 1 star because I contacted them about renting out the venue last summer and never heard a response. If you really want to use them, I suggest going in person or calling (and pursuing them). read more

Hmmmm I went here for a wedding & was less than impressed for this particular use. The "hall" portion of this RESTAURANT was shanty, even in the dark. I just can't/don't want to imagine what it looks like in the day light (go away from the light Carol Ann). I've passed this place several times while riding the River Road & I see why. Caught the Molly Ringwalds last night. Their stage looked great. The venue at Southport hall still lacking. Service is awful, and slow and the price for a beer changes from $3 to $3.50 to $4. Laying just over the parish line in Jefferson along the river road, Southport is an event venue of more recent construction (by that, I mean in the past decade or so). We went for some live local music on our visit, and to celebrate a friend's birthday. Product: Full bar. Drinks were slightly above average in price, particularly outside of New Orleans. There wasn't anything special about them, and your typical selection of American, foreign, and local brews were available. You can rent a table for events to guarantee seating, which is typically first-come, first-served, and very sparse. 3 stars Service: Live music and counter service bartenders. The music selection when we went was long, varied, and pretty durn good. If I recall, Marc Broussard was the headliner. I had the pleasure of hanging out with Mr. Broussard in between sets for a few minutes on the main floor. He's a pretty funny guy. The bartenders were a hair under average in speed of drink service, which can compound during busy times. I don't recall them making me repeat my order or bring me the incorrect order, though. 4 stars (mainly because of the excellent live music) Facilities: A rather newish building along the river road in I suppose Old Jefferson between the end of Oak St. in New Orleans and Ochsner. It really isn't more than a 5 minute drive or so from Uptown/Riverbend. The parking lot is pretty large and right by the train tracks. I wasn't overly impressed with it, because it is gravel and people parked haphazardly. Good luck if you were in early---you might get blocked in (there was no employee coordinating parking). The building itself was of wood and metal construction, and it has a rather rural/country feel about it. It looks new and quite clean. I'm not sure if it is a refinishing or a completely new build. There is a front porch and raised deck as you go in the main entrance, and this is where ticket check is done. Inside, there is a large bar on one's right as you enter, and another smaller one to one's left. The front bathrooms are near the smaller bar (there are also bathrooms behind the stage only available before bands start playing). The majority of the building space is open, sealed concrete flooring, great for dancing. The few seats available, as noted above, are principally reserved for those who pay the upcharge fee to reserve a table. Those few tables and chairs are stool height. 3 stars Overall: I was really on the fence about how I should rate this place, because it's a fun small venue to see live music, then I considered similar establishments in the city, such as Tipitina's, House of Blues, and Howling' Wolf, and this was on par with them, on the whole. But, the location isn't prime, so I think prices should be a bit lower (especially on alcohol) due to such. Don't get me wrong---this is a place I will almost definitely frequent again, depending on the artists performing. And, I would also suggest others, local or tourist, to watch a show there sometime. I'm just saying that it doesn't really stand out from the crowd as far as event venues that specialize in live music in the New Orleans metro area. 3 stars read more

This is a great place to see a band. The place is really big and has great accoustics. I saw the Molly Ringwalds here about a year ago and had a really great time. The venue has three separate bars, so you're covered if you need a drink. The best part is probably the parking lot, so you don't have to worry about street parking. I would recommend checking the website before going to a show, because depending on who's playing, the cover can be kind of high. read more

Southport hall is a great place for live music, but its also a great space for private parties. I had my high school reunion here and it was a great venue for our size group. I have also been to a wedding reception here and its amazing how it can transform into an elegant venue. Their pricing for private party rental is very competitive and you will likely get a pretty good deal. There bar is huge so not a lot of waiting around to get a drink. There is also a huge parking lot so that is very convenient. It's also a stone throw away from Orleans parish so you can safely stay in the confines of Jefferson parish. There is a force field that stops the bullets from penetrating good ol' JP. read more

I went to Southport Hall recently for a class reunion. I'm always happy when an even it held here because there is plenty of parking and the space inside is nice and big. We had food and open bar for our reunion event which was really great. The bartenders were helpful with questions, and the facility itself was tidy and clean. We had a decent sized group of people for our reunion, but it never felt crowded. Overall a great place for an event! read more

We recently used this venue to hold the Sean Schaff Benefit. This was held for a very brave young gentleman who served his country as a United States Marine and is currently fighting brain cancer. We had a silent auction, live auction, and a performance by the 610 Stompers! The facility and their staff were very helpful and allowed us to be at the venue very early to set up and to stay past our allotted time to finish tallying up everyone's auction items as well as collect decorations/clean. Thank you very much Southport!!! While I didn't get to experience much of the event due to my working the first silent auction table and the money room, I have only heard WONDERFUL comments from the people who attended. I have also been to concerts at Southport to see bands such as Bag 'o Donuts and Huey Lewis and the News. Nice large open space and great deck area outside. I heard that it was so packed last night that people were even crowded outside on the deck!! Overall - nice venue, convenient location, private parking lot, spacious hall, large stage, and wonderful staff!! Thank you again for all your help. read more

A great, large venue for catching a good band, attending a party, or whatever they have going on that floats your boat! The place is setup old school, super big stage, great wood floor, nice bars, large open area for dancing or hanging, outdoor patio, smaller bar, super friendly staff......for those who can remember, this is kinda (and i mean kinda) like an on land version of the great old riverboat president. Southport Hall is a great place to see a show. They have a large stage and really a great set-up for seeing live music. I watched the WNOE Eli Young Band / Jerrod Niemann show a couple weeks ago and it was my first trip to the music hall. There were plenty of bars and drinks were cheap which is always nice. The place was jam packed with people. I'm taking a point off for smoking being allowed because well, that just sucks that I can't see a show in NOLA without leaving reeking of that smell of other people's cigarettes. Its located in Riverbend so that's kind of nice, parking isn't too much of an issue and its close to Oak street. There is also an outdoor porch/patio area for sitting as well. I'd def recommend checking out a show here if you get the chance, I was pleasantly surprised and am gonna head back again soon. read more

I can't really review Southport as a music venue since I've never really seen a bad there. Wait, that's not entirely true, let's back up for a moment. My little sister fell in love with a boy in high school and decided it would be a good idea to marry him a few years later. But this isn't about their wedding, this is about their wedding reception. They decided rather than the typical reception hall they decided to rent out Southport for the afternoon and have an actual band play for them. Where normally there would be a big open space with a few tables for people to stand around and watch the band there were lots of tables and chairs for everyone to sit and eat. Southport provided some really good food, above and beyond what you normally see at wedding receptions. And let's not forget the fun part, the open bar. Yay! Parking is pretty spacious in their lot and the hall itself is really big so I imagine seeing a band here for a regular show would be nice and not super crowded like a smaller venue. The bar is large and well stocked and the bartenders are skilled and polite. There are also some smaller rooms off to the side that work well for a private area which was useful during the reception for things like taking some photos or signing papers. Overall Southport is a great place to have a reception and looks like a superb venue to see a band. read more

This is a very large venue for watching live music and other events. I've seen some great shows here. It is a bit far off from everything but it has plenty of parking. They seem to have bands I want to see rarely these days so I seem to end up here more for special events but they still book some good shows a few times a year here. Certainly worthy of checking out if there is a band you want to watch. read more

Good spot. We caught a show during Jazz Fest here and liked the venue. It's a good size place, I'd guess 750 capacity with a nice size stage and good sound system. The only downside is that its a bit of a hike from downtown New Orleans. It's just over the line in Jefferson and if you're in the uptown area its quite close, but from the quarter it'll be a $15-$20 cab ride. read more

I have zero complaints regarding Southport Hall. I flew in to see a band (The Aristocrats) that I've seen in many other similar venues. As far as service & drinks were concerned, I was pleased. Adequate bar space , if you wanted to belly up to it. Lots of floor space & no idiots. Plenty of parking, a comfortable large deck outside where everyone hung out waiting for doors to open. The stage was spacious & well above the floor. Lighting & setup was very nice. From a sound quality aspect, it was much better than similar places I've been to. Lastly, but certainly not least, the band enjoyed playing there. If a band doesn't enjoy what the places amenities & hospitality, it can set the mood before they even make it to the stage. Southport seems to treat their acts well from what I saw. read more

My SO and I came to a concert last Wednesday night (Corey Smith). It was relatively empty, so there was plenty of room (we even got chairs at a table). The hall is pretty nice and open, and there is a private room in the back if needed (it wasn't needed this night). The bar(s) are pretty big, so there's plenty of room to get up to the bar for a drink, and the drinks are pretty well priced for a music venue. The acoustics were a little shoddy, sometimes it was hard to understand the lyrics. Still a fun time. read more

I had never heard of this bar, until a couple months ago, I was coming in to town for vacation, and noticed Straight line Stitch was playing there. Was glad I came. Compared to a lot of the smaller venues here in Arizona this was a nice change of pace. Lots of parking, and places to sit , things we either don't get here, or you pay, and come early. Southport is the BEST!! We just held our Grace King class reunion there. It was a great venue for our size group. Jay, the owner, was very accomodating and easy to work with. He had answers and suggestions for any questions and concerns we had as we were planning the reunion. He makes most of the food himself, and it was top notch. I have a food allergy, and Jay took it seriously, and checked all the ingredients in all his dishes for me. The chicken and andouille sausage gumbo was delicious, the shrimp fettucini wonderful. The open bar was great. Jay even threw in an extra, appletinis, so we GK alums would have a green signature drink. There's plenty of free parking, bartenders and door staff were friendly, and the facility was clean and roomy. The setup was such that there were no long lines at the buffet or at the bar. Jay even invited us to stay afterwards, at no extra charge, for The Molly Ringwalds concert. We had a fabulous night! Southport is a great place for an event!! read more

Southport Hall is a good sized venue, it might be accommodating when rented out for private parties as others have mentioned, and by appearance, seems to be A-okay. However, I have to say that I have been here a few times, and I was not at all pleased with the ways I witnessed customers and band members treated at this venue. I love music, and I am a regular at live music shows around town. I carefully watched people who work here, including the person who runs the place and another person who controls sound for bands, and they were very rude. Bands are pushed around and rushed in and off the stage, as if this place is controlling a live on-the-air production. I actually watched a local band member get harangued for no apparent reason. If you get the "wrong" person at the door, you may be bullied prior to being granted admission. As a paying customer, I expect to be treated accordingly, and I was disappointed with the service I received. It's upsetting to see unsuspecting, respectable patrons and artists get treated poorly. You'd think that there would be some appreciation for the amount of people that bands are capable of drawing in, but instead I was quite shocked at the tactlessness and lack of southern hospitality of those in charge here. In sum, bands beware of the reluctance and sometimes uncouth behavior of those whom may be helping you coordinate your show. Customers, definitely don't miss out on a band if there is one playing here that you want to see, but don't expect super friendly service. read more

I had my wedding here last October - best decision I have made in a while. Not only was Jay amazing to work with, but the food was incredible, the prices were the BEST in town, they offered to DJ on the cheap, and everyone was extremely professional. It was an offbeat choice - not for the stuffy or fancy weddings, no waiters in tuxes. But it was still very nice and months later my guests are still talking about what a great time it was! read more
