I only had a Red Bull and beer during my visit to Maple Leaf. The decor is dive bar chic. I loved the concert- the space was big enough to dance but small enough to be an intimate space with the artist. The bartenders are so chill and I love they treat everyone like a regular so great energy overall. We will be back for cocktails during Mardi Gras!

Great, dark, little dive bar in Uptown section;. Great place for LIVE music 7 nights a week ( see below) Cool bartenders. Right next to a great restaurant ( Jacque Imo's) for pre- or post- dinner partying. Opens around 4-5 PM, closes between 12-2am ( depending on the date) Musical styles represented include blues, funk, R&B, rock, zydeco, jazz, jam bands and any combination thereof, and beyond, hosting both local performers and touring national acts. Currently home to 2018 Grammy Lifetime Achievement winner George Porter Jr. and his trio every Monday night, frequent performers at the Maple Leaf have included local legends James Booker, the Rebirth Brass Band, Papa Grows Funk, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Walter "Wolfman" Washington, "Money Mike" Armstrong, The Radiators, Henry Butler, and untold more. Unannounced sit-ins are not uncommon; Bruce Springsteen once dropped in to jam with The Iguanas. Jon Cleary's band was once joined by his frequent employer, Bonnie Raitt.

If you want real NOLA music, Maple Leaf is a mandatory stop. There's a cover but well worth it. Mostly you will be standing but there a few pews lining the perimeter. A wonderful artist named Frenchy was painting the live musical act, George Porter Jr, among the best of NOLA Funk. There are bricks in the back patio where those who play here are commemorated.

We ventured out of the touristy French Quarter to Maple Leaf Bar on Oak Street. Unfortunately, Jacques-Imo's was closed (it was around 10pm on a Tuesday night) where we had hoped to grab dessert. We actually Lyft'd all the way across town from Bacchanal, which also had live music (see my review). Maple Leaf Bar has an authentic New Orleans venue vibe to it, and it seemed liked a lot of locals were there, although we surprisingly met another couple from S. Florida (small world). The bar has a back outdoor area to sit and have a drink. The music area is a bit narrow, with FCFS bench seating along the sides. We saw the To-Be-Continued brass band and they had that unique New Orleans brass and horn sections wall of sound to them, a few drummers, and a talented guitarist. What really brought it home was the tuba serving as the low-bass component (in lieu of bass guitar). If you want to experience live music off the beaten and over-worn track of the French Quarter, Maple Leaf Bar is a can't miss.

Amazing vibe with beautiful people who all share one things in common: their love for music! Divey bar tucked in between two delicious restaurants only a few minutes walk from the St. Charles & Oak Street trolley stop. Small stage in a large, long wood-floor room built for dancing and living your best life. Not only do I recommend, I demand you go!! ;)

Had a hell of a time in this joint on Tuesday night! My friend who is a new resident of New Orleans told me an awesome band called Rebirth. Cover was $15 and there isn't an ATM inside so make sure you bring the dollars. Whoever does the lighting in the place is awesome as it give off a great vibe while listening to some awesome jazz. The band rocks on stage while the crowd rocks out below on the main floor. There is a bench on the wall for sitting drinks or standing to get a better view as it gets mad crowded here so get ready to sweat. Drink prices are standard as they of course have a full bar. This is definitely a place I will try every time I go to NOLA.

Ask the Community - Maple Leaf Bar

Is there an open mic night and if so what day and time?

I was only there once since I was on vacation and nobody mentioned it and there wasn't any advertising there so I would venture a guess and say no.

What time and night(s) do they have the crawfish boil?

It is usually on Sundays at about 10:00 pm during the spring.

I got what they call an Intergalactic Snack Attack. This is basically a sampler platter of apps. It had 2 mac and cheese pancakes, 6 pizza rolls that looked like Chinese dumplings, and 4 PB&J wings. The pizza rolls were good, the Mac and cheese pancakes were ok, but the star of this show were the wings! They were tossed in a Strawberry pepper jelly and peanut dust and then they give you a peanut sauce to dip them in. These were great! During the week, the kitchen opens at 5pm and that's when we got there. At that time, we were probably the youngest people in there and I am damn near 50. I am more of a daytime/ early evening bar visitor these days, so it was perfect for me. The back courtyard area is very nice for those fall/spring days and the bar area inside seemed to have a lot of character. They also have a stage for live music and comedy shows. All of these areas are not very big, so it still has that neighborhood bar feel. They have a different food vendor on weekends, so you won't get these wings then. The bartender was friendly and fast, food was great and the atmosphere was chill. I will definitely be back for a full order of those wings.

Before I start, this is my review based on my experience. I've noticed some people complain about…read morethe music, paying the cover charge, seating or the size of the venue. I'm not here to argue any of those points. I will say this: expecting live musicians to perform for free until you decide whether they're worth paying is ridiculous. The cover is usually only $5...$10 max. If that's a dealbreaker, this probably isn't your place. Stay home and stream Spotify. Now... I have some friends in town, and whenever that happens, a Monday night trip to the Spotted Cat is basically mandatory. I've been coming here for years and years. Yes, it's super touristy now, but it still gives me the warm fuzzies every time I walk through those doors. So I'm presenting the "compliment sandwich" review. Never heard of it? You start with a compliment, slip in some constructive-ish criticism, then end with another compliment. Supposedly people receive feedback better that way. Let's see. First, the music. Outstanding. Chris Christy wasn't what I thought I wanted to hear until I actually heard him. I felt completely transported. Man, can that guy play the guitar. It felt kinda like gypsy music. Then came the Frenchmen Street Allstars. The last time I saw them, they had a different lead singer and, honestly, they kind of felt like a completely different band, aside from the phenomenal drummer. This version did not disappoint. It was a great mix of jazz and New Orleans standards. Both bands were great! **Now a note to management.** Great music isn't enough. The bar should be every bit as memorable as the stage. Forgive me, I didn't get the bartenders' names, so I have to describe them by physical traits. The first bartender, the guy with the mountain of curly hair, was friendly enough and made decent drinks. Later, another bartender with a short haircut took over and made the best drinks of the night. Then there was the bartender with the black and hot pink hair. She looked like she'd rather be anywhere else. She rarely smiled, her demeanor felt unwelcoming, and it almost came across as hostile. On top of that, the drinks she made were so weak I genuinely wondered if there was any alcohol in them. Seriously. They were that bad. Here's my philosophy: if you're going to be grumpy, aloof, or have some other off-putting trait, you'd better make a mean drink. Years and years ago there was a bartender named Curtis who wasn't exactly sunshine and rainbows, but that man could make a cocktail. I didn't need him to smile because the drink did all the talking. If the drink is mostly soda, though, friendliness becomes a lot more important. Unfriendly and bad bartending is a double whammy. She must be somebody's child or partner because I can't think of any other reason to employ a bad bartender. I hate to belabor the point, but the drinks aren't cheap. Cheap and bad I can take. For another comparison, there's another bartender there, I'm pretty sure her name is Chris. She's been there for years. She's all business. Maybe a little surly. Who am I kidding? A lot surly. But she's a character. More importantly, she makes a great drink. That's the kind of personality that somehow fits the Spotted Cat perfectly. Now let me end with the final piece of "bread" on my compliment sandwich. The doorman deserves his own review. That gravelly-voiced "Welcome to the Spotted Cat!" is part of the experience. Then he absolutely hammers that stamp onto your wrist. Somehow you don't even mind because you know what's waiting on the other side: incredible music, a fun room, and one of the best nights you can have on Frenchmen Street. Just don't let the bartender with the pink and black hair make your drink.
