I am sorry I did not do this earlier. Rose in the cardiac unit is the most thorough individual I ever met. In this world we're people just complain about the medical field . The ER was the absolute worst I had experienced in my entire life... rude staff (Not all -but too many). I came with documents from my doctor sending me to the ER I came in with various symptoms & a fever, I told the intake that I was seeing white and couldn't walk, it felt as though I was ready to pass out... they didn't care! Someone came out and called me in, and when again I explained that I can't walk, she just marched ahead and asked me to follow her clear across the ER never looking back to notice that I found a chair in someone else's cubical, I needed to sit or I would have fallen. Another nurse hurried over (one of the nice ones) and explained that I couldn't sit there, she heard me say that I was about to fall and that I couldn't follow the lady of whom by now was out of sight... this nice nurse got me a chair and wheeled me all the way across the er to what they call a stretcher/bed? (It was brutal and actually painful to rest on this for the 6 hours I was there). The original lady that told me to follow her to my "stretcher/bed" was down right rude! I'm shocked she works with humans. I'll make this short... cut to my discharge... the LPN walks over with a bunch of papers, circles a few sentences, says almost nothing except "here's the directions"... I showed her I had an IV port still in my arm, she replies, "oh ok I'll have to get the Dr to sign off on removal" after all that I ask her a few questions about what I should look for that would mean I needed to return? She said "I don't know here's your discharge instructions, I circled them"... when I made my way out of the ED (still lightheaded but better after the treatments), I get to Valet and find not one place to sit and wait for my vehicle, I was going to sit on the cement. The sweet Valet gentleman brought his own chair out for me to sit and wait. I need to make clear that I had spent time in this same hospital on a unit about 3 months back and I even called the hospital to make sure the wonderful staff were recognized for their amazing care and treatment. I mentioned each person by name and specialty...I was thanked and told that people only go out of their way to complain, they were so happy to hear my wonderful reviews. In short the ED staff, needs to be retrained on how to work with other human beings in a field of "helping" along with this ED needs to be revamped... as well, there is no privacy at all. Maybe they can take some pointers from the units and the staff on the units. I won't ever return to the ED should I need one, and I will certainly make sure anyone I love and care about knows of my experience in the ED. read more

Was in their ER the other night. What a joke. Triage is in the same room as waiting area. You get to hear everyones health issues. Finally made it to the ER area and was sat in a recliner in front of the emergency exit. Witnessed nurses doing NOTHING. They did not check on any of the patients except for the one that was going to surgery. But they had time to complain to each other and be on the phone. One of the ducked behind the desk where I was parked and had a video call with her boyfriend while watching the football game. They discharged someone with the IV line still intact and then spent and hour calling them every 15 minutes, stating the police were going to come to their house. Patient finally sent a picture of their arm that they pulled the IV out of. Night shift came on and within 30 min, every patient was checked on, vital signs, equipment cleaned and patients sent upstairs. Thank God for them and shame on the dayshift and whoever is in charge of them. BTW I worked in healthcare 42 years. read more

A few days ago my wife was experiencing severe pain in her back. After consulting with a few EMT'S in my dept, ( I am a volunteer firefighter) they said she should be seen, because Females can present heart issues with back pain. We arrived at about 8Pm on Friday 8/15/25, and went home about 5 AM. During that time, numerous tests were performed. The Staff was Impeccable, SPECIALLY ALEXIS who appeared to be the charge nurse in the ER. My appreciation goes out to her, and her DEDICATION. She seemed to be the go to person. All night other employees came to her for help , and she helped them with whatever they needed. Thank You Alexis. The resident Doctors that treated my wife were Fantastic, although I don't remember their names. Thank you to them also. I highly recommend your Hospital to anyone I know. Thank you. Don't even know where to start. my family member passed away there this am, care recieved poor at best. It was clear how sick he was but family assured ie was not dying at this time(wrong) suspected cancer and biopsy performed with not an adequate sample, took 5 days to get no results, plan to attempt again Wednesday but he's gone. Family robbed of being with him ..... Northwell accepts and treats patients with cancer yet don't read biopsy results on site, They perform a biopsy then send it to a central labe and say results will be ready in 5-9 days. I don't think that's ok, tell your patients that at another facility they can have results as soon as that day but usually within 24-48 hr. that much sooner for decisions to be made and treatment started. This is a for profit hospital and if you see what the the leadership makes you'll understand why they do what they do.. read more

I just called hospital because my niece said my sister was admitted thru the ER. They said she was discharged from the ER. Now I find out she's still in ER, what the heck goes at this hospital where they don't have the proper records in their computer system for concerned family members that call?!! After 3 phone calls, got ER again her nurse found her. The tech read her mri & said she has a stroke then hours later the drs said she didn't. What type of care did she get? I hope it was better than I'm thinking it was. read more

I was in Southside hospital a year ago unexpectantly. I was not happy that I was taken there. I quickly changed my mind. The care I received was excellent. The nurses were so supportive,the quality of care was beyound. I believe that Northwell has changed everything about this hospital and has raised the standards. Worst ER experience I have ever had. I was told to go there due to a finding on EKG - was put in fast track (stretcher was broken, the gentleman who came to help me raise the leg of the stretcher said "oh this one is funny, the legs can only go up if the head goes down"...I asked for another stretcher, he said he would just move me and put me in a hallway. I was having dizzy spells and chest pain, waited four hours before they began my cardiac workup. (remember, I am in fast track, not the main ER). I asked to see a doctor and a PA came to my bed. After speaking with her I asked if I could see a cardiologist, she said she didn't feel it was necessary. The second time I asked she said she would ask the "doctor" (six hours in and I still did not meet this doctor). Finally after making a fuss since again I was very dizzy and having pain, the PA, not the doctor, called a cardiologist who said I could be put in observation and they would do a stress test the next day. Approximately six hours after going into fast track I was moved to the main ER where my pain became worse. I asked the nurse for Tylenol (which I never got) however; I FINALLY met the infamous "doctor" who quoted some statistics and said I should go home. 4:30 am and I left the hospital, letting them know I did not feel well and was in more pain when I was leaving than I was when I got there. Honestly, the worst experience in an ER I have ever had. A patient is entitled to see a doctor, not a PA. I cant wait to get the bill from the insurance company, if they charge for a Dr. consult I will be fighting that bill!!! The next morning became under the care of a cardiologist who immediately identified a problem, something the PA and ER Doctor could not do. worse hospital ever!!!! when to that hospital on Sunday i had a miscarriage. i had told them i was bleeding all night they didn't care i waited for hours they kept telling me the Dr will see me soon. not truth i had waited and waited. the worse part was the nurse that supposed to see me and take care of me after i had waited for so many hours can to tell me she would not have time to see me. at the meant time she was around me the hole time but did not can to take care of me she just kept watching me. same with the Dr since the time i was waiting in the waiting area i had been seen the Dr sitting and go back and forth wasting time. there was another nurse i ask her for help, told me to wait a minute never came back to assist me i saw her passing by ready to go home she also looked at me and kept going. while i was still bleeding loosing my baby i got angry and i had told them if i don't have any problem to please discharge me. they been telling me for hours the nurse will come to see me . if they discharge me i had told them i will walk away. immediately some body can and spoke to me. and this is not the first time it happened to me. every single time its is the same problem. most people i know also has someting bad to say about that hospital. i also work in the health department and i do not treat my patien or let them wait for such as long period time. if someone is in the hospital is for a reason not for fun. i hope somebody from the state department will do something about this matter health care it's very expensive people are pain lots of money for insurance that is so hard to afford. read more
