Not only are they learning about martial arts, but also anti-bullying skills and how to manage bullying situations with their words. The children are taught in a fun and respectful way and the children respond with respect in return. They are really learning to work for their own personal reward and advancement, which is an important life skill. So like a previous reviewer - I decided I had better start being an example myself, so joined the evening kick boxing classes. I didn't think I would survive, but there is such camaraderie, acceptance, encouragement and fun - along with the incredibly challenging workout, that I was hooked. I'm in the best shape I have been in years now and the classes are never easy, never predictable, and never boring! If you are looking for an open encouraging place to learn martial arts, or for fitness exercise, this is the place for you!

Mediocre at best. I be been training for 10 years, with the last 4 yrs training 3 days a week…read more(classes, 1 on 1 , and sparring ) and was in two for a day so i thought i would take there level 3 class. Definitely a great place for a beginner who is looking to shed some lbs and is bored of the traditional gym, but definitely not a fight gym. Or if it is a fight gym they need to re evaluate their levels for classes. Very little technique but more about warm up, and cheesey burn out at the end. If the 90 min class maybe 30 min was actual pad work and it was beginner stuff. 3 punch combo with push kick. Would have got a better work out on a heavy bag at a local YMCA.

I was here on Tuesday (Uptown location) for the 6:00 pm class…read more Pros: - Good place for starting off. -There are 3 locations, uptown being the largest. - Punching bags are off to the far side away from where classes take place which is nice. - Change room is clean and there were enough lockers for everyone. - Lot's of room. - At the Downtown location, I was immediately welcomed at the door. - The pace is good for those who are just starting to work out. Cons: - You really do need to buy gloves, even if it's a trial class because the equipment (spare gloves) smells really awful. And no, it's not the smell of sweat, it's a scent that's rather indescribable. - The claim for TKMT is that no one is judgemental however the instructor said I looked horrible. I don't think she meant it to be offensive, but I was embarrassed since the whole Level 1 class turned their heads to look at me. I think the word was just a negative connotation is all. I suggest you bring a friend for the first trial for a comfortable experience.

The class itself…read moreand the instructors that I've had were great, so I did not mind driving 30-40 minutes to the classes. Compared to other places I've been to, it was a really effective work-out class and they really helped improve on your kickboxing skills. They're serious about the lessons, not just focusing on cardio. During the summer, you'd see a lot of regulars and also new members joining. My rating for the gym would be 2.5 stars. The reason for the rating is for its customer service and miscommunication. When I decided to start and opt in for 6 months, I felt really welcomed as a new member for the first month. Normally I never sign up for long term memberships, however, I decided to opt in because I was told I could hold the membership if I go out of town or am not able to go even with the membership I'm getting. Two months went by and I contacted the owner directly via e-mail and text informing him that I would like to put it on hold for July, but I was not able to due to short notice. I then requested for September to be on hold during August. I finally hear back requesting for more information, and had responded to it. FOUR months went by without a word, so I decided to follow-up. It was then he informed me that I had to sign a form to change the status of my membership. When I went the same weekend, the owner was not available but had told another instructor to attend to me, that I was there to cancel the membership, which was not my intent at all as I have been requesting for it to be on hold. I contacted the owner wanting to clarify, but it was not until then that I was provided for all the information that I needed over August until January. I wasn't given proper information I needed and wasted my membership for the last couple of months, and no accommodations were made. Great class.. but I felt like the customer service could improve by a lot, and definitely felt the information could have been provided more clearly and much more efficiently.

That's what I was first reminded of when I first signed up my son here. Master Kang and his instructors motivated the kids and cared about making them better. Shortly thereafter, my older son (who initially swore he had no interest in martial arts because they make you do push ups and doing the same thing over and over again was hard and annoying) asked to join his brother for classes. Being heavier set and having quit multiple other martial arts training before, we didn't expect him to last more than a month but we proceeded. In a couple of months, not only was he still taking classes with his brother but he is even more engaged to do so. His kick height has doubled where it was before, his confidence has increased, he's more respectful and he's pushing himself harder and I credit the instructors and Masters for this. Seeing both my kids' improvements, my husband and I decided to sign up and learn with our children and unlike what we initially feared, we feel quite at home and Master Kang gave us the opportunity to take part in something important to our kids which became important to us too. We now all challenge and encourage each other to do better and I can't say any other martial arts gym have ever had our entire family as engaged as Master Kang's! Try it for yourself!!
