I signed up for a class (first one is free), and took the wrestling class last night. The coach definitely knows his stuff. The class was decent size, and mixed men's and women's. He put us through proper warm ups, reviewed techniques previously taught, and introduced some new moves (with variations). Lots of drills and some live scenarios and matches at the end. I didn't have time afterwards to try the jujitsu classes, but now I know where I'll be training the next time I visit.

Having tried a few other Martial Arts before, I wanted to try something different. After doing some online research, I decided to try Krav Maga at Elite Martial Arts. I got started right away and although I was a little intimidated at first, the instructors were (and still are) patient and extremely helpful in the way they conduct classes and run their drills. From the first class I could see why they have such high ratings and why there are always a healthy amount of people in each class. The students are of all ages and come from all walks of life; great blend of everyone here. I find the classes to be very enjoyable and super practical...the Elite conditioning is an intense workout as well; taking this before each Krav Maga class makes me definitely feel a sense of accomplishment once class is finished. Lastly, another bonus is that one day each month there's a free Women's self-defence class. I definitely recommend this school to anyone interested in learning Krav Maga from knowledgeable teachers in a great environment.

You should think of it more as a fitness class (that's what roughly 40 min of each class is devoted to) that teaches some self-defense techniques rather than a martial arts class, especially since it's located in a gym. Super sketchy when it comes to money though. The instructors will use high pressure sales tactics to get you to buy all the equipment through Dan, the owner, even if you're only interested in classes that don't require/need boxing gloves, thigh guards, etc. Really long lead time to cancel recurring billing (over thirty days) and no flexibility from Dan either. For your money, if you're not in the downtown core (and even if you are and can afford a longer travel time) go somewhere else.

Unfortunately, I got a bad knee injury during the training just less than a month out. I had to rest for weeks before trying again, and just realized that I could not continue. Hoping that I could recover soon, I did not cancel my membership as they have this "save time" allowing members to carry over the missing training time and extend after the contract expiration date. This was a HUGE mistake. In Mar 2023, I knew that I had to move out of Toronto in May due to a job change, and started contacting them for a refund by email and phone. I contacted them in the next month, none of my emails was replied, phone calls were rarely answered. In frustration, I went to the facility in person. To my dismay, the admin person accused me of showing up without an appointment, and their manager Joshua show no compassion after knowing my situation. Despite having trained for only five weeks in total, they refused to refund me for the entire duration, claiming that the "save time" policy didn't apply to refunds. They only agreed to refund me for the months after I left Toronto, which was four months since May. I have trained in multiple MMA gyms before, and I can confidently say that this is the worst one I've experienced. The only saving grace was the wonderful coaches, but they cannot compensate for the gym's predatory practices. I am utterly disappointed and feel cheated. I sincerely hope others do not make the same mistake I did and steer clear of this gym.

This is a predominantly Gi gym, though Professor offered to roll me in NoGi. I attended the morning class, and it's mainly nice, working class folks. I will say, I was the smallest by far... at 125 lbs and 5'0". However the warm up was great, and the rolls were great too. I'll be coming back if I'm ever in town! And the style of karate taught there, Kyokushin, is actually teaching the kids how to defend themselves. The prices are reasonable. The dojo is clean and the equipment is new. There is lots of parking available and there is WIFI for the parents to use during classes. I have shopped around the area considerably and I have to say that CKMA is the best choice for our family.

Also, Dave Thompson is a Brazilian Top Team product with a wealth of knowledge and super kind/approachable. He improved my lapel chokes within five minutes of training and I can't wait to put them to the test when I get back to California.

Best of all is there is zero ego here, from both trainers and clients. It's an incredible atmosphere to come blow some steam off from a long day, or get out of your headspace for an hour or so. From the same instructors, I've seen them effectively engage children while being able to challenge older and more advanced students, often even within the same class. Having taken multiple classes of different levels with the same instructors, I can confidently say that they constantly try to teach us more and implement new methods of teaching. I've been around long enough to see the different dynamics between different mini 'generations' of students; most of which have been incredibly positive. The instructors have been able to foster a welcoming environment, and the students have done well to keep it that way.
