Weird review to write but I had a endoscopic procedure and the level of nursing care was exceptional. No one wants to be in a hospital even for a quick procedure but when needed you want a caring and professional staff. They deliver and after all the press about Kettering Health Care and the data hack I want to send along my thanks. I even got a card from the staff thanking me for trusting them. First of all, it was not a very busy ER. I had just come from a Premier Health urgent care where I was treated terribly. I was greeted very warmly and was placed in a room within minutes. The nurse examined my wrist and hand which I felt was broken and went out and ordered an x-ray. The registration person came in updated all of my information and my insurance card and by the time he left the x-ray tech walked in. The x-ray tech could see that my hand was deformed and was very gentle manipulating it to get good x-rays. A few minutes passed and the doctor walked in, explained what was wrong, and referred me to a hand specialist. My prescriptions were called in and the charge nurse came in with a splint and placed it very gently, knowing that I was in some pain. I was then discharged with instructions, prescription prescriptions, and a referral to the hand specialist. All of this took place in 25 minutes! If I ever need to go to an ER, I am definitely going to return there. read more

I have been here over a dozen times for different tests. It sucks having to go however, I must say they make the visits super fast and efficient. The hospital is easy to navigate and every doctor, technician, office person has been a pleasure to work with. Free office that I have visited has been extremely clean. read more

It's a small version of other hospitals in town, but that allows you to feel like your being taken "personally." I think they have limited services, but myself, my husband, and my sister all had surgery here. I was the only one who had to spend several nights here, the others were outpatient. On the last they provided my niece and I free beverages...no Latte's but basic coffee. The gift shop was nice. The cafeteria was sad. That's all I'm gonna say about that. Thankfully our wait was short and we arranged food elsewhere. Otherwise waiting room (in the main entrance area) was comfortable, and personnel pleasant. read more

There is a woman working in the ER registration for after hours patients. She's short, gray haired, glasses, and overweight. I've had the displeasure of dealing with her twice. She's unprofessional, rude, takes her slow time, and has zero compassion. I haven't been rude to her even once, but that's not going to be the case if there is a third time. Everyone else in the hospital has been kind and wonderful to me. I hate that I have to leave this review, but honestly this woman could really use some training in how to interact with ER patients. We are already suffering, that's why we are in the hospital. read more

Doctors were very unprofessional. Doctors rarely communicated. At times doctors preformed check-ins with patient while asleep or unconscious, and did not return to actually talk to patient. Patient was kept admitted with no care-plan in place, only being given fluids and monitored. Doctors accused patient of Münchausen syndrome (a mental condition in which a person repeatedly seeks medical attention for falsified, exaggerated, or self-inflicted physical symptoms.) a condition that is extremely rare, even though patient has well documented medical history with top professionals in their field not believing this to be the case. If you are suffering from a chronic illness I implore you to find a better care facility if your insurance allows it. read more

Teaching granddaughter to ride a bike and impaled my leg on kickstand. Went to ER for consult, they gave me Dtap and Dr Patience Lesueur did excellent job of numbing my leg and sewing it up. Check in person great. Nurses, especially Molly super nice and efficient. Best ER service ever. In and out in less than 1 hour. Really put the "care" in Healthcare. Highly recommend. I birthed my second baby here at southview. Overall I would reccommend this hospital. The nurses are absolute angels. They are all very sweet, comforting, & made sure I stayed informed on everything the entire stay. However, I did have a negative experience with the anesthesia team. A student administered my epidural without my knowledge. I was not told that someone new would be doing it. I would not have allowed it had I known. I noticed hearing the woman walking her through every step & correcting her along the way. I politely asked if it was her first time & the student said no with some attitude. I asked if they tell people when it's a students first time/ when they're new & they wouldn't answer my question. I was already extremely anxious and scared so I just choked down my concerns & let it happen. I understand students need practice, however, my spine is not something I appreciate being offered up for practice without my consent. I believe this hospital could improve their informed consent, otherwise everything is great. read more

Had to take my uncle to emergency room for assistance with medical condition. The in-take staff were on their game- getting him into a room and his vitals read. Dr Matthew Huff the on call Emergency Room Physician on call was both a good listener (great skill) and very specific and clear in his "game plan" for treatment. He was very attentive about a post Emergency Room care plan and provided good advice and startegy. Health Care is a collaborative between patient and caregiver. Well done, Dr Huff. I was admitted to hospital on 5/7/2024. I had a kidney stone removed. My liver enzymes spiked and I had severe pain. On 5/ 10/2024, I was released from hospital still in severe pain and nausea. The night I went home, the pain became even more severe. On 512/2024, the pain was unbearable. So, I went back to ER. once again I was admitted. The professionalism and compassion is hit or miss. I've had some really good nurses and STNAs and some really bad ones. During this stay, there was a major lack of professionalism, lack of empathy, and timeliness was unacceptable. I had my light on at one point over an hour and called desk 3 times. I didn't get night meds because nurse didn't want to wake me up. At shift change, the night shift STNA and her relief were standing in hallway right outside Mt door. The night shift aide was telling her relief I'm a pain pill seeker and never seen anyone like me in the 3 years she's been doing this. I really wish I would've went somewhere else. However, shout out to Dr. Ali for being amazing, listening to my concerns, and keeping me comfortable as u can read more

I went to Southview ER for severe pain in rat eye and forehead. I waited in the waiting room for 2 hours was finally put in exam room . After being in exam room for 30 minutes I opened the door and asked the nurse behind the desk if it would be much longer before I was seen by the doctor as I was in severe pain. The nurse replied it probably would be a while before I was seen. At this point I was so frustrated about attempting to be seen I began crying and told the nurse I was going to go home. The nurse replied " if that is what you want to do". I left the ER at that time and did go home without treatment I was very upset!! read more

98% of staff and nurse are friendly and caring. Attend to your needs better then most hospitals infact I recommend this hospital out of any within a 20 mile radius. If you plan to use a hospital to give birth this is the place for that I would not have a baby anywhere else. read more

I delivered my baby here. Overall pretty happy with my experience. The delivery room was huge, they allowed me to bring my own grip socks, wear my own gown, use my own pillow & a small fan. I was on the fence about whether I wanted the epidural. I ended up getting it by a male anesthetists (forget his name), though he was wonderful. He did a great job & i barely felt a thing. Afterwards I couldn't handle the tingly/numb feeling (it was giving me anxiety feeling like i was paralyzed) so i asked if he could lower the amount so i could have feeling again & just take the edge off. He did as I asked & by the time I delivered it was the perfect amount. I was in labor for 25+ hours, but all throughout the staff were very attentive & nice. After delivering, the post-delivery ward where you are supposed to be transitioned to was full so I got to stay in the large delivery room for a little bit before moving over, which was great for visitors! My complaints/constructive criticisms are below: - The staff are much more on top of answering your call light quickly on the labor/delivery ward than when you get switched over to the post-delivery ward. I remember waiting once for 30 minutes, which I'm sure they are busy & the patient:staff ratio is a lot larger on that side, but as a new parent not really knowing what to expect & then panicking thinking something is wrong with your baby you just hope for quicker service. - I wasn't happy with one of the lactation consultants at the hospital. I can't remember her name, but I felt she was kind of rude & pushy. I had taken the breastfeeding classes beforehand & then in the hospital my baby just kept wanting to eat a lot & I just wanted to make sure my milk had came in because I heard sometimes it doesn't come in right away & I didn't want to be starving my baby. She came in & did some things to show me it was coming in & then suggested that I go ahead & take off my top & get the baby naked to do skin to skin while feeding & said I should do skin to skin feedings starting right away, which was not mentioned in any of my breastfeeding classes. I told her i had several guests about to walk in any minute from a 4 hour drive out of town & that i would try doing it that way, but just not right that moment because I had guests waiting & she was like, "well this baby is more important & you need to do it now, etc.". - The Bella photography lady doesn't schedule a set time to come in & do photos so you aren't prepared. She had to come back 3 different times for us due to me being in the shower, baby napping or eating & we felt rushed & didn't get the chance to get her dressed cute or anything, so she did the photos, but we just didn't purchase them. read more

I went to a Dr for a minor medical procedure and ended up having to have a major procedure instead. I had never been to Southview, but it was a very nice facility. All of my nursing staff were fantastic. My only issue was iv's - I had one in the prep area and thought we were good. Woke from surg with 3 more sticks and a 2nd iv. During my overnight stay, I got stuck one more time. Not sure why this was necessary. I bruised badly in several stick sites. If you can work on anything, work on that. Otherwise, my care was exceptional! read more

Before you send your loved ones to Southview Hospital please read this review. ******************************************************************************************************* My brother went to Southview Hospital for a splinter that got infected and ultimately spread to his hand and almost to his tendons. We are a blue collar family and my brother does not have health insurance. Keep this in mind while reading. Upon arrival my brother was treated very fairly. They got him in the ER almost immediately and started a simple operation on his finger. That is when myself and the rest of my family arrived. We walked in to them carving pieces of his finger out with a scalpel, but he was under a topical anesthetic and was awake and in good spirits. The surgeons finished up and bandaged his finger up, both of them were very knowledgeable and courteous, I wish the rest of the staff were the same way. What happened after my brother was moved to his room is the most sadistic and ridiculous thing that I have ever witnessed from a professional setting, nonetheless a hospital. Around about 30-40 minutes after my brother arrived in the room he would be staying in, his topical anesthetic wore off. Let me remind you now that he doesn't have health insurance. My identical twin brother went from cheery and slightly inconvenienced to writhing and screaming in pain. He is a 27 year old construction worker, this man was rolling around on the bed, crying and screaming in pain. Begging for us to do something to help him. He called the nurses multiple times on the remote and they replied with "we need to call the doctor and we are waiting on a response. After about 40 minutes of witnessing my brother in more pain than I have ever seen a person endure he called the nurses again. They replied with "we need to call the doctor, we are waiting on a response". My brother, in excruciating pain, called the nurses worthless. My brother is a very calm minded individual and would not have ever said anything like this unless he was in so much pain he was desperate. He cursed at the nurses over the remote and he was met with a very cold "you don't need to speak to us like that sir". At this point in time it was starting to get out of hand, myself and my girlfriend decided to go and talk to the nurses at the nearby nurse station and apologize. After sincerely apologizing and trying to explain that my brother was just acting like this because of the incredible pain he was in, one of the nurses came out to talk to us. She sneered at us sadistically and said "oh we have his pain medicine, we are waiting on the police to arrive because we don't feel safe going into that room without protection". I told her that was very excessive and after an exchange we walked away to wait for the officer, my brother still screaming in pain in the background. We thought it couldn't get any worse but that's when the officer arrived. He walked into the room with his hand on his weapon and taser, with a "ready to smash some heads" attitude. He asked my brother, still writhing and crying in pain at this point, what was going on. My brother tried his best to explain the situation and the officer sarcastically replied with "oh well you can leave if you want". I would share a picture of what my brothers finger looked like at this point but it is too graphic for facebook. My brother, replied and told him he wouldn't be leaving and continued to explain to the officer what was going on. At this point a nurse walked in with a syringe, his IV pain medication that he desperately needed, and walked past his bed and stared off into space waiting on the officer. The officer then got a sadistic sneer across his face and started laughing at my brother, laying there in the bed crying in pain. I stood up because I could no longer take this ridiculous situation and asked the officer what he thought was so funny. He replied with 'out, everyone out". He threw me (the patients identical twin), my girlfriend and the patients girlfriend out of the room. Upon leaving the room the officer looked at me and said "if you don't leave the hospital right now I am arresting you all for trespassing". Fearing wrongful arrest and what this tyrannical man in his power trip would do while gripping his weapon, we begrudgingly left. Upon leaving I texted the patients girlfriend and asked her to get the officer's name and badge number, when I asked this the officers mood entirely changed. I was told that I was now allowed to come back in and see my brother. The officer realized that he profiled my family and trampled my rights and at the same time broke his oath to the constitution, and decided it was the right time to play nice. By this time I was already at home, reeling from this whole experience. I get a call saying that I need to come back to the hospital to fill out a statement against the officer and his sadistic and unlawful behavior. Your beeper system you give your patient is annoying. I DO NOT like the fact that when your family member has surgery here your not allowed to be there the entire time. WHAT IDIOT CAME UP WITH THIS IDEA? First you take my husband back to prep for surgery. The family members are given an annoying beeper that vibrates and dings for a long time. Then when you FINALLY bring me back I am only allowed to see him for a couple of minutes. This is the only hospital I know that does this. WILL NOT EVER COME BACK TO THIS HOSPITAL. read more

I had my surgery here and stayed overnight. I found everyone friendly and helpful. They were quick when you needed them and the food wasn't super bad. Had some salmon that was extra dry... but all else was good. All in all was very happy with the docs, nurses, aides and food service. read more

The doctors here act like you are putting them out. I've been here frequently over the last couple of years due to some serious health issues. The latest experience I had, the Dr came in yawning, spent 11 seconds with me before leaving the room. He wouldn't even look me in the eye & when I apologized for bothering him, he said he was extremely tired & 5 hours past his shift end. Kept rolling his eyes & yawning & would not even let me explain how I was feeling. Every Dr here lately acts the same. The Doctors at Kettering Medical Center are AMAZING! My husband cut his finger on a miter saw and with the size and amount of bleeding we felt he needed stitches so we went to Southview ER since it was closest but we waited for almost 3 hours to end up getting two stitches. This place is trashy, dirty and absolutely ridiculous to have to wait that long to get two stitches, I wouldn't recommend anyone go to this ER, drive a little farther to get good care. read more

I would not recommend this hospital for anyone to go to! I had a simple gallbladder removed and after surgery. The surgent wasnt even around and I was in so much pain in recovery and my blood pressure wouldnt stay up and they kept pushing caffeine on me to get it back up and kept waking me up because my blood pressure kept bottoming out and they released me anyway. Later I found out I was allergic to liquid band aid stuff and they didnt bother to tell me. Then 2 months later my one area would not heal and my family dr pulled a string out of the hole that was 5 inches long and the surgent didnt care. My family dr covered it up for Dr Gaberial. they dont clean the surgical instruments good. They just dont care. If you dont want an infection from surgery then I dont recommend going to this hospital..They have piss poor management and dont care. read more

Staff is great. They really do care about their patients. I live closer to Sycamore but travel to Southview because of the staff. I think there has only been one negative experience with Southview, and that's just something I blew off. But every other time I've been there has been phenomenal. The anesthesiologist are really nice. The last one that worked with me went out of his way to comfort me. I was so touched that it made me cry. So, I love their staff and 10/10 would recommend. It's nice to be able to fully trust who is taking care of you. read more
