The entire process with the physician, the RN. I took photos of my blood work after I received my discharge summary. The RN had left and was walking down the hall with another patient. I would not send my dead dog here. Er refused proper communication accomodations to my mother, tried to 1940's asylum her for advocating for her legal ADA needs, wit held tests and care under this excuse, the doctor instructed the nurse to hang up on me as soon as they could after she called me to help advocate for her, after they violated their own patient rights listed on their website. She tried to contact the patient advocate multiple times outside of asking the er because the er wouldn't follow the hospitals patient advocate protocols, and the hospital kept routing it back to the er. Her blood pressure and cardiac symptoms were stroke/heart attack levels but they did not do any proper tests or medical interventions though her vitals continued to get worse while they continued to refuse to use any reasonable communication accommodations. If she had not been able to reach me she might have stroked out in the er, who wanted to cut that communication with me because they didn't like me making it clear they needed to communicate directly with her. She was ultimately hospitalized for 24 hours, receiving necessary fluids (that she did not receive in the ER) and some other things that helped stabilize her. The floor was deeply understaffed and while she said the nurses were nice some of the aids were marking they had done hygiene cleaning/checks they had not, marked she could walk to the bathroom without assistance no problem when she did have problems and nearly fell over and also was not strong enough to open the door to get out at times. The wait time from when she rang for help for the bathroom and when she got it was so long she thought she would either have accidents in the bed or felt she had no option to try herself, she was a fall risk. No one told her why she was hospitalized or what floor she was on until she was on the cardiac floor, and it wasn't well into her hospitalization that results were explained to her at her repeatedly asking, after she got communication accomodations. In many ways the staff post ER were very nice but maybe 70% were pretty terrible to her about the accommodations, often blaming her for poor interactions when she insisted on proper accommodations. The hostility of the staff could have been reduced a lot had the hospital provided an in person interpreter, but the hospital refused. She was also released too soon, she was clearly not strong enough to come home, but she didn't argue because she felt very unsafe in that hospital, given that at one point a nurse almost gave her another patients injectable morphine (which she is allergic to) and turned away the psych professional that ultimately said there was absolutely no problem that the er doc claimed there was because the nurse told them there was no patient by that name in the room. It was a medical error, unlike the ER, who was deliberately saying false things, the floor was just so understaffed and fatigued the woman had scanned the other patients bracelet and never logged out. (Grandview is a room mate situation, not single rooms) I looked at the medical records afterwards, that we had to get official copies of because the er doctor walled some of them off from mychart; the doctor falsified them. I want to give credit to the good parts (the imaging people were amazing), but over all, I wouldn't even send my neighbors dead pit who was attacking cats there. Go there to die after being treated with humiliation. Go somewhere else to live. read more

Yesterday early evening about 4/5pm, my mom went in with a fractured wrist and was attended almost immediately. She states that not only was the service prompt but they were genuinely kind and checked on her status multiple times. She felt above and beyond the best care. Although she doesn't remember names she reports that the staff on the pm shift that worked were the best she's ever seen. Thank you again for the amazing care and concern! read more

Really Bad ER care. Front desk was rude and dismissive. Someone ordered a bunch of tests without any real physical exam and minimal questions from the nurse at the front desk. Once back in ER, there was no concern for keeping me informed, my comfort or even checking on me. Staff seemed overworked and disinterested. No one ever came in to discuss my results or diagnosis. I had to get everything from the patient portal app. Overall my care could have been handled by some sort of AI bot. Maybe it would have been cheeper. Definitely would not recommend. read more

I came from the ER and the wait was kinda long but they were very good at there job they checked and was making sure I was comfortable while I was in the waiting room all the people who helped me in the ER was very wonderful and when I got admitted I had to wait along time for a room I had to sleep in the er room until a room was available to me and when I went upstairs it was bad at first firsti I didn't have no cover or pillow nothing but that who day was okay but that next day it wasn't the ppl who u call 2 get ya nurse was rude and was mad that I was trying to get my nurse or even getting me to the restroom like they was taken there time but the nurses that helped me they were awesome read more

Night nurses are terrible. You call for them for help and they come in 25 minutes later. When a new patient comes in they're loud, bump into my person table and spill water on me. Two doctors say you being discharged today then they say no you not. Emergency people were great even though I was there 6 hours waiting for a room. Day nurses were awesome. We have been there several times, this time was not good experience, I will go to MVH next time or Soon before I come back here. read more

The Drs were fantastic but some of the nurses need to learn to be more personable to people. The one nurse that gave me the best experience was nurse Marie she was fantastic she always went above and beyond to make sure I was good. But all in all my stay wasn't super bad but definitely could have been better. read more

Went to Grandview because we thought I had a blood clot. Left leg very swollen, hot, and tender. They did ultrasound on my legs, tests on lungs and misc. No blood clot. But my sodium was low, kept me there from Sunday till Wednesday. Still low sodium, said they gave me the wrong meds for lowering sodium. Probably won't go back for awhile..... read more

I got great care at Grandview, its my go to hospital for any emergency needs. They were nice friendly and attentive.

I would like to put a negative 20 plus. When there is too many not so favorable reviews somehow those get taken off of here. My brother was in there for 1 week 1 year ago today. For 24 hours they let him suffer in the worst way. I read every report and watched every minute as time went by. They blamed him as he struggled to breathe. He kept telling them and all they did for 24 hours was to run up his bill. They looked at him as a gay man with a heart problem and watched as him lungs were filling up and he drowned as his heart started going crazy struggling to keep up. 1 year after they killed him I am still angry at the absolute disrespect my brother and family were shown. They didn't call the numbers on his medical power of attorney so when we did find out we get there and waited for ever. When we walked into his room what we walked into no other family should ever have to see. For the last year I have repeatedly made this statement to everyone I know, NEVER EVER GO TO GRANDVIEW. They will kill your or your family member and not as much as take responsiblity read more

I recieved excellent care at Grandview, for the most part I had wonderful nurses and aides. The support staff were very friendly and did great jobs. I have read some of the reviews on here and it is hard for me to believe I was in the same place they are talking about. Weekend visit to emergency room, on a Saturday evening. Er staff was very friendly and easy to talk to. After being admitted and waiting on a room, nothing butt kindness. 5th floor nurses night shift as well as day on the cardiac side we're amazing. Doctors easy to understand and very approachable. To be truthfully honest they are a lot better than they used to be since Kettering health network took over. my only real complaint is the way they put in my script has kept me from being able to get a new one from the follow dr for 4 days. I have to go without medication for 4 days. because my dr won't override because its not in their protocol. The meds were taken as prescribed but the quantity and dose does not add up to 7 days at all. but they put a hold by putting up to 7 days as needed on the script for me to get more. 1 pill every 6 hours is not only 10 pills for 7 days. In order to make that last I get 1 pill a day with a second one every 2 days read more

The regular hospital is pretty good and I give it a score of 4. The ER is just awful and I only score it as good as a 1 because my wife and i did not have to wait long to get seen. She was ill. We were taken to a very tiny dated room that did not have a bed and we had to stand and wait for several minutes. Upon entering the room I see there is no room for a single chair so I sat on the bed intermittently. After getting started and then my wife getting a CAT Scan, we then spent 3 or so hours in hell as follows. My wife's IV was hurting her and so we called 3 times for help. Then she called for bathroom help and got none. I had to clumsily unhook my wife and see her to the bathroom. A nurse then came but since the bathroom was not needed she escaped before we got the chance to mention the IV issue so I called for the 5th time. The guy on the phone then overheard me be exasperated as I ended the call. This guy came down the hallway and in a loud voice told me I should not be saying what I said to him. I said we called 5 imes over 2 hours and nobody came and he told me they were busy. I said that I was his customer and that I did not care and that that was not my problem. He said I was not his customer. I corrected him loudly. Then another hospital guy came by and said the he himself waited 4 hours just the other day as if my wait was meaningless. I congratulated him on his patience sarcastically and said again that busy or not, the least they could do was to communicate with us more than every 2 hours. My wife then got out of bed, IV and all, and we started to leave. The nurse then told me she would call the police because we were leaving with an IV in place. I told her to go ahead and call the police. She then said she was calling security and I said "Fine, I have done nothing wrong." then she went into the room where I thought the IV would be removed but instead she wanted to question my wife alone. I told her not to threaten people with security. She then really called security and lied to them that I had "escalated" the situation. Security was great and helped me back to the waiting area. The nurse really wanted my wife alone so they could bully her into staying. After I went to the lobby, the CAT Scan my wife took 2 and half hours prior was miraculously ready. but then, after another 30 minutes I was dialing 911 for the police because Grandview had effectively kidnapped my wife and still had not removed her IV. But, my wife said they just removed her IV and that she now had to wait for a prescription. We agreed that if she did not have it in 10 minutes that we would leave. 15 minutes later we left. read more

This was the worst experience ever. Dr Roy Johnson in the emergency room was very disrespectful. My father was in the emergency room for 4 hrs and only saw 1 dr. When he said he did not want to have another test done that is when Roy Johnson came in questioning him and threatening him that if he left without the other test he was going to die. A relative was sent to Er in a Crisis and was supposed to be admitted per crisis worker, they did not admit person and person then needed picked up , so I talked to someone on the phone and stated the person was supposed to be admitted and asking why this was not happening, HE hung up on me, extremely rude Also, another relative was admitted for gallstones and was supposed to have them removed while in the hospital and they released this person suddenly and said doctor stated he was booked. If anything changes to improve this review I will take the time to change it. read more

My visit at Grand View Medical Center started on Christmas day thru the emergency dept. Lowest point in my life. Moved to 4th floor. I was in rm. 29. Early friday morning a room mate came in. No problem. His IV machine warning tone went off all night long. They would come in and reset it. No more than they would leave off it went. It went constant for over 2 house before anyone came. Next morning I called patient relations. Recording said report it to charge nurse then supervisor nurse. Charge nurse was Matt and around 8:30. IV kept going off. Matt just looked at me. I was frayed and hungry from not eating, no sleep. I said its not my machine!!!!!. Totally ignored me. Labeled me as a problem patient. Seen I was getting no where. Decided to make my experience public. Worst stay at any hospital. Treated with disdain, refused to let me shower.1 nurse did get me a razor so I could shave. Hospitalist again over looked my complaint. Shipped me down to 1st floor locked unit where I was treated with dignity. Got some meds for bp. And depression. But that place was filthy. While the family of my room mate were there, they did keep shutting down the IV alarm. But when they left, they ignored that alarm. I told the family members the next day about it. Decided to just go public. Be careful here. Oh on being discharged on monday december 30th, my clothes couldn't be located with my wallet, phone and high dollar watch. The 4th floor staff either held up my clothes for my complaining or refused they had them. Referred us to security. Run around hospital merry go round. The 4th floor had my things the whole time. This and a hospital farther away was one of my 2 choices. I was a little concerned since Grandview does not have the best reputation. I was pleasantly surprised and had to stay overnight with my TKA. The food was good but they really don't take into account that your own diet may be different than what they provide. IE. Carnivore and they only allow 2 meats and must cut them in half if you ask for 2 different ones. So had to modify my own diet in order to get enough food to eat. Husb had been in motorcycle accident so was unavailable to bring me extra meat to eat. All the nurses were great and the PT and OT were great. No complaints with any of that. They were pretty responsive, but if you need pain meds and bathroom at the same time, tell them bathroom cause that is the quicker response. I like how they write on the board when you can ask for your next round of pain meds and their names, etc that are taking care of you that shift. I had a visit from the housekeeping department to see how the housekeeper was, but I had told her to wait since I was going to be going home and no use to clean the room twice. Apparently have been having problems with cleanliness?? All in all, the experience was good. read more

Went to the hospital @2:10 in the morning to be told it was a 6 hrs wait to be seen in the emergency. I wouldn't go back here even if it was the last hospital in Ohio. When I was finally seen the dark skinned lady who did my IV she was very nice but the doctors were racist they were very racist they did not care about my care they did not care about being clean they did not wear gloves the one meanwhile she was actually doing a IV the "dr"was trying to run ultrasound on me and was completely ignoring her while she was doing the IV I wouldn't recommend it was good dying oh and also the lady who did my IV told me they were going to be racist towards me and not to get upset. It's pathetic that Kettering doesn't give the same care to everyone. I sat there for hrs just to be told they didn't k ow what was going on so they sent me home feeling the same as I came in. I'm 115 they kept asking me if I was on drug but I've never done anything and I kept telling them that. A girl was there with a broken leg and they let her sit there in the lobby for hrs in pain until she passed out from it. Wait time rediculous went in for vomiting waited an hour to be seen got taken back and they forgot to order fluids and when they did they took tests and forgot to tell me I was pregnant until after the ultrasound tech came and got me. They took all day i went in a t noon and didn't get out till 8 pm just to tell me im pregnant. My nurse was super sweet but they didn't help the neaseous or the pain I was in. read more

I was sent to Grandview after having pain in my chest and the back of my head. LONG story short, they tested the crud out of me for stroke and heart attack, as they should have, but not one single doctor actually touched the places where I was having pain. On seeing my family doctor days later, she did a thorough exam and found that the pain was just muscular, and needed to be treated much differently. That would have been nice to know much earlier. They also kept trying to give me the wrong drugs - some that I used to take but had told them I no longer do, and one that I've never taken and don't need. Then they gave me a muscle relaxer for my pain which I had a very dangerous reaction to, but nowhere in my discharge paperwork did it tell me what that drug was. On calling them days later, I spent nearly 1/2 hour on the phone unsuccessfully trying to find the name of the drug so I could avoid being given it again at an upcoming appointment; not only had they not added it to my allergy list, they couldn't find it at all. I finally called Medical Records, who were exceptionally helpful and apologetic, and let my family doctor know the name of the drug (although apparently they had didn't have it documented at all that I could have died from taking it). A private room wasn't available (?), so I was paired up with a poor roommate who was often crying in pain, and who also left the TV blaring 24 hours a day, so not a great atmosphere for my own peace of mind. I finally escaped when the doctor grudgingly released me, after only the most high-level drive-by about my test results, some of which he didn't even bother to mention and I only found out about later from my family doctor. I was released near midnight, because he didn't arrive that day to see me until after 11:30 pm. Oh, and good old Dr. James Laws, the cardiologist. Without being asked or even warned, I got to take a cardiac stress test in front of a group of (I assume ... I hope ...) medical students. He was clearly much more interested in posturing for them than he was in caring for, or even acknowledging, me. His cologne was so intensely heavy that I almost passed out from the fumes, and after two introductory questions, he never once spoke to me again. On the plus side, the food was quite good. Most of the nursing staff were patient and accommodating, and seemed to do their best under the circumstances. But given the choice, I would never, ever go back. read more

This hospital is a nightmare getting any type of reliable information on your loved one. My mother was in the senior area. When I called to check on my mom, I was told that she left, she had passed away (she was fine), they had no record that my mom had ever been in their hospital. Lee in patient relations (patient relations mind you), told to stop calling her and call the floor nurse. That was the reason I called her, because I couldn't get in touch with the floor nurse. My mom was in Grandview for over a month, after calling the floor nurses and leaving a voicemail on multiple shifts, at least once a day, no one EVER returned my call. I did have some interaction with 3 people that delivered real "patient care" otherwise it was an absolute joke. Instead of actually finding out where my my mom was (she was the room next to the nursing station) it was easier to say that she passed away. The first time they told me that, I freaked out (happened more than 17 times...stopped counting at 17), later I realized that at Grandview that means..."I don't feel like looking up the information, leave me alone". When I caught someone lying to me, I brought this up to Lee in Patient Relations, her answer was that HIPAA laws require us to lie to the patient families. That keeping the family informed, is unnecessary. Grandview has it covered. Mind you, most of the time, no one could tell me if my mom was ever in the hospital, died or left. The Vice President's assistant truly was interested in patient care. As well as two nurses that took care of my mom. Awesome, awesome individuals. This has to be a management problem as the total lack of concern is obvious from the phone operators to the doctors and nurses. As a side note...my mother was put on special watch list to be monitored as a likely fall risk. I was assured that the staff had this covered and it was next to impossible for her to fall. Of course she fell within an hour, so hard it broke her hip. Maybe these problems are all training issues. To me it seems like a lack of basic human concern. It's surprising that someone that entered the healthcare field would have such a lack of concern for their patients. I had always thought people in healthcare got into that field to CARE for people. My Mom was transferred to a "REAL" health care facility. She is doing much better. Thank God we got her out of Grandview. read more

My mom had gone there to get a stent put in her heart. First of all, the hospital is so antiquated with their medical services, the entire hospital should be sued and closed. A Dr. Jacob Bradley Gibson, DO, was the doctor in charge. Released my mom, while she was still bleeding internally. She developed blood clogs over night, could not breath, and was taken to the emergency room of another hospital. This led to her staying in the hospital March 20-24, 2014. 24 days in the hospital. Grandview and Southview Medical Centers should be avoided for cardiac issues. While part of the Kettering Network, the cardiology group covering these two hospitals is significantly inferior to the main group covering Kettering and Sycamore Hospitals. I saw Dr. Jacob Bradley Gibson's name mentioned in another review and felt the need to warn others as well. He was my father's cardiologist while at Southview Hospital the first time and put him on the drug Xarelto for Afib, which was actually caused by the Lexiscan during the chemical stress test. My father had a serious but rare side effect to the medication. The issue is documented in the prescribing information for Xarelto as occurring in 1% of all patients. Apparently Dr. Gibson does not bother to familiarize himself w/ this type of information for the drugs he prescribes, as through his nurse he refused to see my father on follow-up before 30 days and said the issues he was experiencing were impossible. He and the other physicians also discharged him w/ nothing more then a superficial explanation of the drug interactions which caused his blood pressure and heart rate to crash. After calling 3 times trying to get a follow-up appt. w/ Dr. Gibson, my dad turned to me for help. We got him in w/ his old family physician the next day who got us an emergency appointment the following day w/ an excellent cardiologist from the main group covering Kettering and Sycamore Hospitals. He not only explained in detail what had caused his system to crash and was familiar w/ the rare side-effect my father was experiencing from Xarelto, but most importantly said he did not even need to be on a drug for Afib. We like to think doctors all possess critical thinking skills. Unfortunately, I have found most practice what I would term flow-chart medicine. Unlike his current cardiologist, Dr. Gibson lacked the knowledge, experience, and most importantly critical thinking skills to understand my father's case because it did not neatly follow a flow-chart. Most disturbing of all though was his refusal to see my father for a follow-up appointment after the initial discharge. This is someone who got into medicine for all the wrong reasons. read more
