One of the 3 pools available to guests at Southwinds Motel.

We stayed 5 nights and enjoyed it. It's simple accommodations, clean and in the perfect location. Just about a block from Duvall on the "southern most" end. We rented bikes from right across the street to get around. It was cheaper than renting them from the motel. We stayed in the room directly next to the office. We had a little patio with tables, chairs and umbrellas just outside our door where we'd sit at night and enjoy a night cap and watch the passers by. There's a little bar/liquor store right next door called The Tipsy Rooster that has acoustic live music. So beware if you go To bed early. The music lastil 10 or 11pm, but it didn't bother us. We were on vacation. motel has 3 pools to cool off in. We stayed in early August 2021. I would highly recommend Southwinds for those on a budget, and still wanting a place perfectly located.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Southwinds Motel for our Key West vacation (06/06/2020-06/10/2020 4 days/ 3 nights). We booked through Expedia and paid $821.99. If you haven't booked with Expedia, they do not include resort fee, you pay that upon arrival. The resort fee was $90.00, so in total we spent $911.99 PROS: Great location, it is the biggest perk. One block from Duval street, 2 minute walk to the southern most point. You can bike anywhere from there. The bed was nice and comfortable. The pillows were the fluffy squishy kind that I love. Feathered. Three pools, one which is heated. You can wash/dry your clothes for no extra charge. Bikes are available for rental. Due to COVID the continental breakfast was only individual wrapped muffins (blueberry was my favorite huge fresh and delicious) and beverages (juice, coffee, tea, H20) CONS: The door knob is a tricky thing, you have to insert the key, slightly pull it out, and then turn to the left to open the door. There is no closet, just a bar with hangers to hang your clothes. There is absolutely no counter space in the bathroom!!! The water for a shower was also tricky; there is a fine line between hot and going to give me a three degree burn hot. I turned the cold water all the way on and then slightly turned the hot knob to get the perfect temperature. OVERALL: I keep stressing this, YELP needs to allow half stars. I give this hotel 2.5 stars. Will come back if it's $200 cheaper or if the nightly rates are $99.00 or less.

Way overpriced. You can do much better in Key West. Surprisingly the price of this motel in April rivaled that of many of the nicer older hotels and bed & breakfasts in Key West. The decor is minimal and basic, the sink tiny (with plaster coming off the back), the AC seemed only to have one setting, the shower was a bit wonky and very low flow, the bathroom window was broken and could not be opened, and the microwave so old and scratched that you had to guess at the settings. To its credit it was clean and the coffee maker worked fine. The location is in the southern, quiet end of the island about 14 blocks from Mallory Square. We booked a little late so did not have much choice. They charge way too much for this motel. The only good part was that Frenchie's Cafe is around the corner and has very good croissants and breakfasts.

We chose this motel because it was kitty corner from the Southernmost Hotel that we would eventually move to for our wedding. The place is in walking distance of everything! Rooster's Bar next door was a nightly event for our group - please you can buy liquor inside as well. Bonus! They have 3 pools on the property & serve a small breakfast. The location & cost alone is worth staying here. Could use a bit updating inside but it didn't bother us! We were very happy with our stay. Plus they leave a 5% discount card for Rooster's in your room

Fantastic. ..clean. . Quite. ..pleasant motel. Rooms are kept remarkable clean. Plenty of off street parking. Two great pools. ..Beautiful landscape. The big plus. .the staff is overwhelmingly friendly ,courtesy. .and very knowledgeable of all key West landmarks ..restaurants and nightlife. WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK ! !

Cute momma chicken and her babies!!

So I came to key west for 5 days and my friend booked us a room at this motel. The prices were very affordable so it seemed like the right fit. You don't really spend much time at the motel/hotel room except to sleep really when you're on vacation, so we weren't looking for anything fancy. Our stay was very nice! The room was always made up when we returned to it at night, there are three pools there as well. Our room was actually located right outside of one of those pools. It was probably the smallest pool they had but it suited the needs of what we wanted. To just lay out in the sun and go for a dip when we got too hot. So it was perfect really. The grounds were always clean too. Everything was very well kept. What I thought was so cute was apparently in key west they have chickens everywhere. Every day this mother chicken and her babies would casually walk by the pool for a few mins to I guess see if we'd feed them or whatnot. You can't feed them unfortunately - so they'd run off within a few mins. They were so cute though! I'm a big animal lover so this was exciting to me lol Above all- like I said the staff was very nice and that includes the people who made our rooms up and the people in the office. Didn't have any issues at all. They also have a small complimentary breakfast each morning- small things like muffins and coffee. It was cute. Across the street they have a really good deli you should check out if you stay here. There is also a small store where you can get basic groceries across the street as well. And ofcourse the best part is you are only a few blocks away from Duvall street where all the action is. So it's really located in a good spot. I highly recommend staying with this motel if you are visiting key west!

The breakfasts for the price taste dismal and lower quantity. 2 eggs bacon, toast, and chopped potatoes a bit over $20 as most other dishes plus smaller sizes if you just want a donut or similar. The vibe I get is for breakfast this place is for guests who have a hotel package that includes free breakfasts. They also charge a 18% mandatory "service charge" and of course another line for the tip. We didn't do dinner here. I hope its better than the breakfast. 2. We booked under The Edge Chase Sapphire Reserve so its $100 property credit and free breakfasts for 2. When you consider "service charges" tips, taxes, and determine what the credit can be used for, it becomes a bit confusing. I know for a fact that laundry is not included, neither is the $50/day valet parking. Sort of an resort advantage to keep the guest guessing. Drinks food, spa i know are included with the $100. The valet guy was cool and informative. Considering the small island size and the cost of everything, this was a great stay. The room and balcony overlooking Malery Square plus the ocean and Sunset Island were fantastic. I have stayed at many locations over the years and this was by far the best. Pegasus on Duval is a dump. Both Hyatts are nice but on east side of the island so transportation becomes an issue. Do you really want to drive close to Duvall....if you can find a space, then pay for parking? This place is 2 blocks from Sloppy Joe's, Hogsbreath, next to Malerly Square and sunset pier. Walking distance to the hot spots at night.

They said basically it is what it is and we have to deal with it. One night they moved us to another room and they were acting like they were doing us a favor. It was major problem for us. second night they moved us to our room which has broken AC And gave us boxed fan to cool off. Front desk manager is clueless and don't know how to handle issues and he has kids working for him who do not know how to handle anything. They are like teenagers. I would never ever stay there again and warn anyone not to there. Oh you will wake up 5am because of dumpster trucks getting the trash and it takes like 20 min. Check-in was busy when we arrived, but the staff remained friendly, patient, and accommodating. We've stayed here several times over the years, including during the renovations, so we've seen the resort through all its phases. It's wonderful to see everything almost completed, and the property looks great. Throughout every visit, the staff has always gone above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. One thing we've learned is that if you have a special request, just ask , they're happy to help whenever they can. Our two-bedroom suite was perfect for our family. We love the layout and found it incredibly comfortable. While many guests prefer the ocean-view rooms, we actually enjoy them, even with the occasional cruise ship in the harbor. Besides, you're in Key West! Take a walk and explore, you'll find gorgeous ocean views all around the island. The location truly couldn't be better. You're within walking distance of Duval Street, Mallory Square, great restaurants, shopping, and so many Key West attractions. We also had dinner at the newly decorated Lolita's Coastal Cocina, and it was absolutely delicious. A special thank you to Damir K., who has been wonderful throughout our stay. His hospitality, along with the rest of the staff, is one of the many reasons we keep coming back. Keep up the great work, Opal Key...we're already looking forward to our next visit!

We also enjoyed having pool access. The pool was definitely the highlight. It is saltwater and has separate adults-only and children's sections, which was a huge plus. The pool attendants were wonderful, and the pool manager did an exceptional job. Their service is the main reason I would give this hotel three stars instead of fewer. Unfortunately, housekeeping was very slow. Our room was not serviced until around 4 p.m. most days and was not serviced at all on Sunday. This was especially odd because housekeeping staff could be heard speaking loudly in the hallway very early in the morning. We also had one very uncomfortable experience at the hotel bar. A heavily intoxicated gentleman was yelling racial slurs while another woman played country music loudly from her phone. The bartender was alone, and there did not appear to be any security support nearby. We left immediately. Ironically, we had planned to attempt a little ghost-conjuring of our own one evening, given Key West's spooky reputation, but our plans were quickly interrupted by the very drunk man in the lobby yelling racial slurs. It was certainly not the supernatural encounter we had in mind. The hotel does have beach access, although we avoided the beach because of the significant seaweed issue, which was not the hotel's fault. Overall, Casa Marina has a beautiful pool, comfortable rooms, and a convenient location, but the housekeeping delays and bar incident made the experience feel inconsistent.
