My main was a charcoal grilled whole snapper (fish of the day at market prices) served with hand cut chips, a jug of lemon butter sauce and a small Greek salad. The fish was perfectly grilled and beautifully moist inside. The chips were the real deal - no frozen crap here. The lemon butter had a pinch of herbs and was perfect with the fish. The salad was fresh and crisp and complimented the meal. Desserts drift from Greek standards but are nevertheless delicious. Their tiramisu was light (a good size serve) and their "profiterole" was nothing of the sort- lady fingers biscuits with cream and chocolate mousse topped with fresh strawberries. Aside from playing host to struggling actors who will cross-dress just to try and make it, not much else really happens there. They used to have poker on Thursdays that a friend of mine ran, but that finished when he moved away. It's definitely a locals pub so don't expect too much else happening, but I do like the fact that it is a rough-round-the-edges pub in one of the most expensive areas in Sydney, and it's a perfectly friendly place to have a drink, and can be a pleasant alternative to some of the overly uptight drinking holes this city has to offer. They serve alcohol too...what's not to like? You can get a gyro for $9, and if you want chips and a drink just tack on $5...can you say value?!? They have other dishes, but some weren't available yet like their burgers (I will eat you...maybe not now...but I will eat you.) I got the pork gyro and it was fan-fuggin-tastic. Tender meat and their chips are really really good...they must sprinkle the good stuff on them. They also make their own sauces, and I loved their aioli. All the food here is delicious and in true Greek style, huge portions and great value for money. On my visit, the owner Harry made us feel very welcomed. Great value for money is the Kondosouvli (Spit Roast) Platter for two $62.90 You have a choice of lamb, pork or chicken( or all three if you desire), served with salad, 2 dips, pita bread and chips. This platter is so huge that it can easily serve three people comfortably. I love a Mousaka and this one is freshly baked in the oven! Delicious with a good serve of Greek Salad. We finished our meal with the Greek desserts Bougatsa and Loukoumades. The atmosphere is very Greek - layback, happy and casual. No need to rush away here. Coming from a Greek that was bought up with basic Greek home cooking I found this place hugely disappointing and very embarrassing to call this "Greek Food". And I have no idea how anyone can say this place is good or a hidden gem. It's more like reheated, left over food on a shipwreck! Read Why.... We decided to have the Signature Dish being the Greek Feast for 4 as it had everything on it... Firstly out came the 4 dips with pita bread. Now remember this is supposed to be a serving for 4 people. There was probably the equivalent of a heaped teaspoon (not tablespoon) for each dip. By the time one person took enough to spread on some pita bread there was almost nothing left leaving that person embarrassed for taking so much. Next came the meats - slow roasted lamb, spiced chicken, beef kofta, falafel (which is NOT Greek????), spiced chickpea crunch and rosemary potato. The meats came in 2 small half-filled bowls - probably sufficient for 2 people to eat but for 4 people it was more like left over scraps and tasted like scraps too. And not even served on a platter with separate sections for each meat. Rather all thrown in together. We found the chick peas buried under the lamb. So ZERO points for quantity and presentation. These people would not even make the qualifiers on MKR. I got the impression that all the meats and falafels were left-overs from the night before and had been reheated, not once, but maybe several times. They were all rather dry and tasteless. The chicken for example was more like dry crispy chicken. Sorry, not what I ordered! The lamb wasn't crispy like the chicken (thank God) but rather dry and plain tasting. Certainly not the succulent, tender, garlic infused lamb one would expect for a slow cooked roast. The kofta (Greek sausages) were the most tasty of all, but again rather stiff and dry like they had been reheated from the night before. The falafels where tiny balls with a hard crispy outside and dried out inside. They were OK. But not restaurant quality. You would think the rosemary potatoes would have been roasted in with the lamb to make them soft and tasty. But no. These appeared to be lightly fried with no hint of rosemary. Definitely NOT Greek style potatoes. Well at least there were plenty of these. The best part of the Greek Feast was the Greek salad and everyone agreed it was fabulous! At least they got something right. We gave the 2 Greek desserts a miss. At $10 each they were way overpriced as you can sit down in a nice Greek cake and coffee shop such as Christopher's and get a decent portion for $5-$6. Enough said. The restaurant used to be occupied by a pizza/pasta place that never really piqued my interest enough to make the tiring trek up the hill, after all, Bondi has no shortage of very good pizza and pasta restaurants. Greek cuisine, on the other hand, is sorely missing from Bondi, so I was very excited when I saw this new restaurant pop up. My girlfriend and I decided to give it a try it last night, and I'm very happy to say that it completely exceeded our expectations. As we walked inside, the place was clean and inviting, and looked to be recently renovated. I spoke to one of the servers and he mentioned that the restaurant had just opened up 2 weeks ago. It had about 10 or so tables, 3 of which were occupied when we arrived. The kitchen is completely open, which is always reassuring when a restaurant doesn't feel the need to hide the inner workings behind closed doors. We weren't feeling particularly adventurous, so we decided to play it safe and order the standard go-to dish of chicken souvlaki at $18 each. It came with tzatziki, pita bread, and a salad with red cabbage, coriander, capsicum, carrots and mint. I was hoping there would be an option for greek salad, potatoes and rice, but alas there was no rice on the menu. They did, however, have rosemary potatoes, which we didn't order since we figured it would be too much food, but I'll definitely give them a try next time we go there. The food arrived about 10 minutes later, and my first thought was that the portion of chicken was fantastic! I'm always annoyed when I get a meat dish at a restaurant and they skimp on the portion size, but that was not the case here, there was more than enough to be satisfied. The chicken was tender, juicy and extremely flavourful. The salad was fresh and tasty. Combining the chicken with the tzatziki, pita bread and salad was absolutely delicious. By the time we were finished, both our plates were completely clean, and we were totally full. I'm really excited to go back there and try the rest of the menu, it all sounds terrific. Very happy to see a new Greek restaurant in Bondi, and I sincerely hope they do well, since it's great to have another reasonably priced option.
