I visited Stoweflake a few weeks ago and booked a deep tissue massage. I don't write reviews often but I truly felt like I have to warn people how bad and not worth the money it was. The masseuse clearly had no idea what she was doing, too much pressure on my bones and not enough on the muscles, it was like she literally didn't know where the bones vs muscles were. So disappointing and painful, I was very tempted to leave in the middle of it but didn't want to offend her and cause a scene. She kept dripping massage oil on my head and it dripping down my face in the middle of it, by the end I could barely walk in the provided plastic sandals I was so oily (despite me politely asking her not to touch my feet and her going ahead anyways). Everything about the massage was uncomfortable. I was prepared to say something to the woman who checked me out at the front and she went on and on about how wonderful the massuse was, that of course I would be tipping 20%, that she was best friends with her, that they couldn't live without this massuse. I clearly was not happy with my treatment and she didn't let me get a word in. The spa looked nice enough, this is 100% a review on that masseuse and my experience, other people seemed to be having a pleasant enough experience around me. read more

Beautiful location and great staff. Unfortunately, I can only give it two stars due to the condition of the facilities. The whole place needs a DEEP CLEANING. The floor of the shower was yucky, and some of the grout in the pools looked dirty. Overall, it seemed tired and worn. read more

I will say that I do believe the rates are overpriced, however a nice day spa that you can truly enjoy the facilities all day and relax is hard to come by in Vermont from my experience. Came all the way to Stowe for a White Christmas...but with record high temps in the 60's we made the best of our trip by visiting the Stoweflake Spa each day. My daughter and I had Facials, massages, and pedicures. We spent a lot of money at this place and over all were pleased with our experience. The therapists were so friendly and over the top with customer service to ensure total relaxation. I would have given this place 5 stars if it were not for the Manager of the spa...she was not interested in the customers experience being anything special .... Only interested in the customer following very strict ridged rules. Kudos to all the other spa employees as they keep us coming back each day for more. read more

First, I want to make it clear I don't submit reviews very often. Unfortunately my last visit has prompted me to do so. I had been to Stoweflake several years ago, and I just have to say it feels like it has gone downhill. It's not so much about the customer service but more about the upkeep, or lack of. First, my friend and I got there with about 10 minutes before our first treatment in the morning. We changed into our robes, and tried to put our belongings into their lockers, but it took each of us several attempts before finding one that worked! needless to say we were both several minutes late to our first treatment, which as you can imagine still has to end at the same time. So it is already only 50 minutes, and now cut short to 30-40 from no fault of ours. Second, my robe was a bit on the small side (a Large). It closed but my legs were exposed and I wasn't comfortable. I asked for a larger robe at which point they gave me a larger one. I kept having to roll up the sleeves and felt like I was swimming in it. I am not a complainer, so I just dealt with it. I looked at the tag later and it was a 5X! Nothing in between a Large and a 5X? As far as the treatments go, I had the massage, and although I like a strong touch, this was a bit much. She should have asked me how the pressure. Needless to say later that night my boyfriend told me I had welts on my back, lines that were raised from the massage. In between treatments (they had a 2 for 1 that day) we used the facilities. The steam room was broken, so we couldn't use it. That was a real bummer. Things I noticed: Two of the bathroom stalls were without toilet paper, the clock on the wall had stopped so we weren't sure when our next treatment was, and lastly the lunch was a dud. We had each ordered Salmon through the restaurant Charlie B's. My friend's was not cooked at all...inedible. But she wouldn't send it back, mainly because the server didn't come back for 15 minutes, and we would have been late for the 2nd treatment. I'm just overall disappointed. I remember the spa being so different. I am not a high maintenance customer. I just think these things are important. I wrote to Stoweflake and got no response. Again, not professional. I went with my therapist with expectations of a good deep tissue massage. What I got was a nice Swedish massage (you'll see by my other reviews that I'm kind-of a massage junkie, so I know the difference). It was ok - any massage is better than no massage, but I was unimpressed. After my massage, I spent time in their spa baths/waterfall area. It's beautiful and I could have sat under that waterfall all day. In a perfect world, the area could use a cold plunge pool because everything is hot with no way to bring body temp back down. In real life, the spa needs everyday maintenance- the towels are thin and scratchy, the clothes hook in the dressing room had been pulled off the wall and not fixed, the showers have no water pressure. All in all, it was a nice but not spectacular afternoon. Would I go back? With my 20% conference discount, yes, I'd schedule a Swedish massage (no need to pay the up charge for deep tissue since they don't seem to know how to do them). If I had to pay full price? no stars - I signed up for a six month membership to use the spa facilities. half of the lockers didn't work, neither restaurant was ever open, the mineral pool was empty with caution tape around it, the hot tub in the ladies side was just a tub of hot water, no keys and the bathing suit spinner had been ripped out of the wall with a fake plant stuck in front of it. then I heard they had a "contamination " and closed their facilities. understanding that there was a change in ownership, I didnt know who to talk to and the three times I did use it, there was hardly any staff around. I finally emailed them from an address I found on their website and got a response from "Samantha " who basically told me there was nothing she could do since this is the first time she heard of it. this is disappointing since it used to be a nice place which is why I went there in the first place. my recommendation is don't go here, there are plenty of other spas in town that are nicer, cleaner and have more amenities that actually work! read more

Rachel - excellent massage therapist. Get her if you can because she really understands the body. I get a lot of massages and she really is terrific. I wish we had more time for the spa facility because it was very nice. I like the layout which is relaxing, modern - yet cozy, and clean. The steam room has two side windows to let in extra light. The Stoweflake spa is my go to spa when visiting Stowe! They have really unique treatments such as the Green Mountain coffee body treatment and the organic rose facial. The staff were super friendly. Rachel answered all of my questions before my arrival and she was super helpful. I had Brittany and Wendy for the two treatments I received and both of them were phenomenal. My husband and my friends also enjoy their experience. We loved using the amenities such as the hot tub and the Hungarian mineral pool. I highly recommend the Stoweflake spa! The facilities were not as luxurious as I had been led to believe. It was nice though. I enjoyed the steam room and the sanctuary lounge. The advertised solarium was clean but small. The massage was nice but not memorable. I had lunch at the spa cafe. The soup and salad were delicious. The chicken and caramelized bananas were not very good. Cold and weird texture to them. I LOVE this place... Tomorrow's visit will be the 6th time I've been there.. During the Fall/Winter, I watch Stoweflake's website like a Hawk for their spa day specials... If you're looking to escape the cold and have a relaxing day to yourself or for you and a friend, GO HERE. So whenever I read spa reviews, I'm always looking for the ones that describe what the facilities are like and what exactly they offer, so I'll try to explain for my fellow Yelpers and spa enthusiasts (ha!). Firstly, you walk in to the reception area, and the lounge/sanctuary is just to your right (comfy lounge chairs around a fireplace!). You immediately feel the moist warmth, smell the eucalyptus and lavender, and are immediately relaxed by the dim/low lighting of the spa.. They greet you and give you a plush robe and sandals. They have a locker room where you can lock up your purse and other things.. They have separate changing rooms with vanity's and private bathrooms which are all clean and beautifully decorated... They have hair care products, mouthwash, brushes, pretty much anything you might need throughout the day there.. Just down the hall are the wet and dry sauna's, and on the other side, a bunch of showers with pretty tile work, at the end of the hallway is a 6-7 person hot tub... Through another small hallway is the "Solarium"... Pretty much a large room made of floor to ceiling windows and skylights facing the mountains (my favorite room!).. There's a 12-15 person Hungarian Mineral hot tub and a small (warm) pool with a big waterfall dumping in to it (soo relaxing to sit under..) The lounge chairs in there are sooo comfortable, between those chairs and the lounge chairs in the sanctuary, I typically nap for about 1.5 hrs while at the spa for the day... LOL. I have had 5 facial's at the spa, (2) custom facials and (3) 24 karat facials... Every esthetician I've had has been very skilled :) Tomorrow I'm going to just use their facilities and not get any treatments, so it's $40 for the day, not too bad.. All in all, if you're looking for somewhere to relax for a whole day, Stoweflake is the place to go! :) read more

I am a local who has in past visits always enjoyed Stoweflake and its services, however this most recent visit was not up to par. I paid 78 dollars for a woman's cut and style in the salon, only to be disappointed. The hairdresser spent 30 minutes with me, washing my hair as fast as possible, no scalp massage. She cut my hair and left it wet. No style. I returned to the facility bathroom to blow dry it myself. The salon had no music on and half the lights were turned off. I enjoyed the mineral pool and sauna as usual, but overall left very disappointed. read more

Really should probably give it two stars because 1) the girl that did it seemed pretty I experienced and my hair came out the worst I have ever seen it and 2) it was 106 for deep condition and blow out by an assistant at best.
