I hosted a baby shower at Space 1858 and absolutely loved the space and working with the event…read moremanager was easy and manageable. The space itself is beautiful and open. The front of the space is white with a lot of windows to allow in light for any event. The windows are lined with white, airy curtains that allow light in but give privacy to the attendees. There is a cool brick wall on one side of the space. The back portion of the space includes a kitchenette (no stove) and a space for all of the chairs/tables. A long hallway leads to the back entrance where the trashcans and recycling bins are located. The management includes cleaning supplies, a broom, trash bags, and a ladder. I loved the DIY nature of this rental. You can decide to bring in your own food or have it catered by any company you choose. Since the space is small it would work best for groups of 50 or less and even less depending on the type of seating. More layout and seating info on their site. Logistics- The management puts everything in writing and explains everything in detail so that the day of logistics is seamless. The bathroom is well stocked with toilet paper and hand towels. If you decide to have alcohol you must buy alcohol insurance (more info on their site). You cannot tack, velcro, or 3M stick to their walls. If you do so, there is a fine, or you can purchase more insurance to use whatever materials you want (more info on their site). You will also need to purchase event insurance. All info on their site and on the contract. You will need to clean the space after your event. However, management does have a cleaning crew come in before each event to clean up (so the space is clean for you when you arrive). A word of advice- 1) If you host in winter, you'll need an additional coat rack. 2) If you decide on half-day rental, give yourself enough time to organize, decorate, and clean up at the end. There was another event in the evening on when I hosted my shower and we hauled ass to get everything cleaned in time. 3) Not completely ADA accessible (there is one stair up through every door). However, the bathroom is large and fits a wheelchair. Also, our guest used the back entrance to bring her chair in. It worked well for her. All in all, I would recommend as a small events venue/space.

The room is essentially a blank slate, which allowed us to do the decorating we wanted. It's well-lit. It's incredibly well-priced and they allowed us to bring our own caterer and beverages. It was easy to plug a laptop into their sound system for our wedding and reception soundtrack, and our guests had a blast. The kitchen is a bit small but it worked fine for cold appetizers. Christina was very helpful in making it available for viewing numerous times. We will have beautiful memories of our wedding day forever, and working with Space 1858 was one of the easiest parts of planning the wedding--stress-free, which we really needed!

What is really great is that they have a calendar already on their website of availability, removing that initial email-tag and we only reached out after seeing one of the dates we wanted was available. Alex (the owner). Alex and Orlando (Event Manager) were fantastic. Really great communicators, friendly, accommodating, and just good people. We had good vibes from them immediately which put our wedding planning (which was a tight timeline and a destination wedding) at ease. Alex and Orlando were present the day of and everything with the venue was so smooth. Our grand entrance with Orlando driving us in the Tuk Tuk was something our guests still talk about! The curve appeal has a lot to be desired but that I think that's also the charm of the Fairlie - it's like a hidden gem. The high ceilings are so grand with floor to ceilings curtains which section off the space perfectly so you can have your ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception in one space. The space is that Chicago Industrial vibe but has a lot of potential to create. The double staircase is a showstopper and when I saw, I knew I wanted to dress it up. There's also a small parking lot which was great for immediate family and plenty of free street parking in the area. Tables and chairs are included as well as the Tuk tuk! They also already have some great uplighting in the space where we felt like we didn't need to purchase any extra. What really drew us to the space was: 1. BYOB (that was with your caterer). They do have a preferred list of caterers and we went with Hearty Boys. 2. TWO bridal suites for use, a groom suite on the main floor, and a bride suite on the upper mezzanine level 3. Can party as late as Midnight (required to have 90 minute cleanout time for vendors) 4. There is a large space additional space in the Mezzanine level where we able to have our traditional Tea Ceremony before our wedding ceremony for family only (at no extra cost). Overall, we had a really great experience with Fairlie and would recommend to anyone looking at Chicago venues.

I had my wedding reception at Michelle's several weeks ago. I made sure to wait until I received…read morethe deposit before writing a review (see negatives #3). Here's my synopsis... Positives - 1. It is inexpensive. 2. It is public trans/cab/parking friendly. 3. The ballroom is mostly attractive and has a large dance floor. The building could use some new paint, though. 4. You bring everything in, except for chairs and tables. (also kind of a negative if you get easily overwhelmed and it involves a lot of research to get good prices). It also allows you a lot of flexibility with food and beverages. 5. The bridal suite is rather large, though it does not have a bathroom nearby. Negatives - 1. See above #4. It was kind of a nightmare to buy and transport all of the extra things we had to bring. No one told us that we could bring anything earlier than 4 hours before the start time. 2. The bartender that I was forced to hire through the ballroom was not a bartender. He didn't know the difference between the red and white wines; he couldn't make a bloody mary with bloody mary mix and forget about my request for a dirty martini. My friends had to walk him through a bloody mary and the dirty martini. I wasted money on a lot of standard bar stuff that was not used at all - like simple syrup; Rose's lime juice; pickles for the bloody marys, etc. 3. Our group allegedly cause damage to one of the bathroom walls. The wedding was on a Friday and Michelle's had 3 events posted to their online calendar after our wedding. I did not receive a call until Monday morning regarding the damage. I am not saying that it is impossible that our group did not cause the damage, but I wish that someone had called us on Saturday or emailed pictures of the damage. Basically, we lost a chunk of our deposit for something that I am not sure happened during our reception. 4. Binny's said that they had problems delivering to that specific location and wanted a 4 hour window for delivery. They weren't really clear what problems they had in the past. We had to use a courier for the alcohol to ensure that it was delivered on time. Long story short, I would probably recommend having an event at Michelle's if you are on a tight budget. Just don't expect a real bartender and take pictures of the ballroom before you leave!

I just had my wedding there and I am so glad we choose Centre at North Park. Most importantly you can not beat the price for a wedding, especially with what you get in return. We looked far and wide for an affordable location in the Chicago area and Centre beat them all in price and quality. I'm still hearing about how great the staff was, how good the food tasted, it was very good, and we were able to have a 6 hour open bar. All included in our price with tax and tip.
