i saw a flyer that was placed on the mailbox of my salon. I receive a lot of this kind of advertisement but this is the first time that i have ever contacted someone in this manner. I am so happy that i did. I have a small room in my salon that i needed some shelves installed and contacted Kevin to see if its a job he would do. I wasn't sure because it was a small job and sometimes businesses are really wanting larger more financially beneficial projects. in LESS than one week i had beautiful shelves installed. I took the measurements and photos, sent them via email and paid 50% deposit (all on the first day) to get the job started. It was very easy! Kevin contacted me about an hour later and said everything would be completed in a week. i was surprised at the short turn around time and a bit skeptical but it was definitely done in a week or less. I was looking for an experienced carpenter who would make me: a banquette sitting (dining) area, a custom-made bookshelf and 2 built-ins. I contacted Space Carpenter and provided them with pictures of exactly what I was looking for. I received an e-mail from someone named Kevin Rocine, saying that "this is possibly an interesting project." He was requesting more information, pictures of the actual space, dimensions, etc. He promised to provide me with an approximate cost for the project. He also pointed out the following: "If that is not possible I would have to visit you and charge a design to work out the approximate details before pricing." So far so good. I spent a lot of time measuring everything. I sent him a very detailed e-mail, featuring pictures and precise dimensions, as well as additional details and a thorough explanation about each piece that I was looking to get. I never received a response. I contacted the Space Carpenter again 10 days later, politely asking if they were at all interested in the project. But nobody bothered to get back to me. Kevin - thanks for wasting an hour of my time (before work) to take measurements, upload pictures and e-mail you... Since then, I've found not one, but several truly professional carpenters. All of them provide free in-home estimates, unlike the Space Carpenter who charges his potential clients a fee. But you know what? I am glad that I didn't pay Kevin a "design fee" to visit my home and take the measurements himself. Seeing how I never heard back from him, he would've probably burned me with a few hundred dollars and never contacted me again after his visit. Do yourself a favor and don't bother with this lack of professionalism. Btw the company has some negative reviews on Google as well. read more

I had a great experience with Kevin and Space Carpenter Co. I was short on time and made a request to build out 2 closets and install them within 5 days. Kevin came over same day, was meticulous with drawings, measurements and was very careful to explain the process in which I should expect. Kevin surpassed my expectations by installing sooner than contracted and was present through-out the entire job install. Overpriced slow work, hired a completely reliable affordable replacement to clean up their mess (Drain not replaced, drainpipe moved causing leak). Owner wouldn't even acknowledge that I was overcharged by 3 hours. A half hour even 1 hour if the work was done correct I wouldn't mind. Worker Gene showed up twice with the incorrect tools and even had to use mine. Incomplete work and condescending attitude from the owner. Stay away. You'll notice the owner Kevin continue to refer to himself as a 'designer' stay in your lane and just do quality carpentry. That's all anyone wants. read more

We needed a cabinet built in our living room that would match perfectly with an existing wall, would not be a noticeable addition to the room, but would provide extra storage space. I highly recommend Kevin and his company Space Carpenter. Our condo had a nook in a wall that he transformed into a kitchen pantry. The work was done off-site and installed professionally and quickly. From initial contact with Kevin to finished product, our project was completed in well under a month. The cabinet and doors were custom fit and hung perfectly, which in a 100 + year old building is remarkable. He also created a smaller cabinet to hide an eyesore gas meter which hung from the ceiling. Kevin is a skilled carpenter and problem-solver. I will be using this company again shortly to install large wood shutters at the street side of our home. Even though this was a small job - 8 shelves in a closet - Kevin came personally to do the design. He cut and painted the shelves off site to minimize disruption in the home then installed them. Of course our walls are not flush so he spent time recutting to get a good fit. The closet now looks fabulous and the space is used well. I can recommend Kevin. read more

Kevin followed my specifications and custom built the storage so it would fit everything I needed into it. He responded promptly to all my emails and gave me the best price - and I had been comparing prices everywhere. The stair case looks great with beautiful maple stairs and a nice hand railing. Space Carpenter's work is awesome! This was the 2d time that I used Space Carpenter and they were every bit as reliable and professional as the first! This time they painted my bathroom, replaced my shower door and did some grouting, plus fixed a stuck window and sink drain in bathroom. They also bought the paint and shower doors that I needed, for me. They can easily deal with NYC coop paperwork, which is a huge plus. I reviewed, before traveling, what I wanted done with Kevin during a period when I would be traveling. He and his team were so awesome in getting what I needed, and I knew from my prior experience that I could trust them to do the work in my apartment on their own, while I was away. I don't think my bathroom was ever prepared for paint and painted so well. And they were great in picking up the paint and shower doors for me, once I described what I was looking for. I just loved seeing the beautiful job when I got home! I highly recommend them and will continue to use them for small and large work. read more

Kevin built a great attachment for my loft bed a few years ago when the original ladder broke. He created a ladder leading to a little ledge so I could climb up, get on the ledge, put things on this ledge. Hard to describe. One bad thing ... he doesn't respond to calls post job. A beam he put underneath was wobbly, needed to be secured. He never responded to my calls. Fortunately the beam doesn't seem crucial to the integrity of this structure. BUT left a bad feeling with me re future work. read more

My antique shop is in the West Village historic district and therefore the original front door dating to the 19th century could not be changed.
