Loved our stay here. Very secluded/large lots that made the stay very comfortable. It is a little tight for big rigs but definitely doable. Great family park full of fun things to do. read more

We are at day one here. To start the staff is super friendly and accommodating to your every needs. Our booking was mixed up and saw to it to get corrected. Very large campsites, clean and a great layout I found at their trading post food counter was amazing!! A real pleasant surprise. I can honestly say that the rest of our stay here is going to be amazing. I would highly recommend right from the start. read more

We just spent 4 nights here in a 34' motorhome towing a Jeep. Being it was Labor Day weekend I was impressed that they could accommodate us when we requested to extend our stay at the last minute. It's a very cute place with very spacious sites and lots of activities for the kiddos. The only oops we had was they put us in the wrong site and we had to move at 6:30 pm our 3rd night in just when we were walking to see the sunset. We weren't terribly happy but then again we didn't want to ruin the long weekend for 2 families planning to camp side by side. It would have been nice to get an offer to slightly discount a night but no biggie. Not sure we would stay again only because it was pretty far from Moosehead Lake. Nonetheless, extremely nice place (oh and nice nature trail and ATV amenities) and friendly staff. Especially if you have young kids you will love it! Not marking down a star for remoteness because it is camping after all and it's just our personal preference. read more

Can't recommend this place enough! Clean campground with all amenities you could think of. General store, recreation hall, swimming pool, laundry, playground, gas for atv, ice cream ;) the list goes on. They have a movie night on Saturdays around 9 pm out on the lawn. Campground is extremely dog friendly with waste stations and bag all around the campground for easy pick up. Owners are more than accommodating and helpful. Direct access to the trails right from the campground. We will be back here for sure and will bring our pup again. read more
Great spot out in the woods in MAINE. We arrive on a wheeler trip as they were closing. They were nice enough to sell/serve us lunch. They have a nice little store, game room and cabins for rent read more

Love balsam woods! Have gone 3 years. Right in the trails, nice and quite. Sites have plentiful space. Gas and atv wash on site is a plus!

We have stayed here several times over the last 12 months. I simply cannot say enough good things about Balsam Woods. The lots are terrific, always enough room to really set up everything. The place is always well maintained. The young couple who run it are the nicest people you could find. We are scheduled to go back again in a few weeks, but would go again now if truth be told. Definitely a gem in the making. Dave V. read more

We have been traveling now for 3 months and we stayed here from 6.16.19 to 6.30.19. Site E11. The owner truly takes pride in this place. From the moment you pull up you can see that this place is very well maintained. Absolutely beautiful. The employees in the office were great and the owner Matt was a professional on every level, very nice. They have a great office with a large shop, luncheonette area and a game room. The large heated in ground pool is very clean, gated and located next to the office. Most sites have a loop section which makes it convenient for those that want to walk only in there area. All sites are rather large and LEVEL. We were not able to get satellite but the owner Matt supplied us with a cable extension which I was great-full to have. Internet was decent. The location is far from a lot but there are a couple beautiful country stores literally within 5 miles. If you go into Monson (about 7 minutes from park)there is life, lol. Beautiful small gourmet shop, excellent restaurant "The Quarry" and some other attractions. It's a very limited area but it's a nice surprise. Otherwise, if your in Abbott for more than hiking just remember, your far from a lot but as long as your comfy with driving approximately 5 to 30 miles look up Bissel Brothers Brewery in Milo Maine and on your way there you will come across pretty much all small shops that will have all you need. We would definitely return to Balsam Woods. read more

We had a great time staying here in one of their small cabins. We arrived by atv, and the owners were very helpful with trail advice. We brought most of our own food, but my son had a delicious cheeseburger from the snack bar. Very clean campsite with everything you need. read more
Our home away from home! For the past 3 years we have come here, and watched this campground grow and improve with each visit. The owners are wonderful, friendly, and always accommodating! We camp in a tent so we can only review based on the camp sites. They are always clean and well maintained. The, very clean, bathrooms have 2 stand-up showers/changing rooms with free hot water. No chain to pull to disperse water and no quarters are needed. Yessss! As for things to do while at the campground, they have a HEATED POOL, an excellent selection of modern DVD's to rent, games for the kids to play in the rec area, and a store that oddly enough always seems to have what we need! They sell firewood and gas at moderate prices. Pancake and sausage Sunday's are all you eat and under $5/pp. Now, for the best part, the ATV trails connect to the campground! They have a decent sized lot for all the guests' ATV's. They sell maps in the store, conviently ;), for you to start a day full of adventure out on some of Maine's best trails! read more

Excellent campground. Owners are very nice and keep the facilities clean. Kids love the heated swimming pool and I enjoy the abundant wildlife in the area. We stay at Balsam Woods 5 or 6 times a season. We are hoping to get a seasonal this year. You won't be disappointed at balsam woods. read more

This is one of the best campgrounds we have stayed at in Maine. All sites were spacious, even and well equipped. We have a 33 foot travel trailer and I was able to easily navigate the campground and back into my space without any issue. The owners have done a great job maintaining the property and are very customer centric, going out of their way to make everyone's stay a positive one. And they have done a very good job clearly communicated their expectations around campground etiquette and enforcing quiet hours making everyone's camping experience an pleasant and relaxing one. The campground is located in the heart of the great Maine outdoors, so opportunities to recreate our abundant. ATV trail riding, fishing, hiking, moose watching, rafting and hunting are all close by and accessible from the campground. Or, if you just want to relax, hanging out at the pool or at your site by the fire are great options too. We did it all during our visit and are looking forward to our next trip back to Balsam Wood CG. read more

The owners were very rude to our group that we were staying with. They complained about our ATV habits, complained about is coming in late (from Massachusetts!!) and overall were not pleasant. Also, the campers are run down and not good to stay in. I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Ohhh and their newest addition and my sons favorite... Fresh homemade mini donuts! .....sooooo... If you're not already dialing the phone now.. Give them a call and try them out for yourself... Spacious Skies Balsam Woods Campground is a hidden paradise of a campground located right in the heart of Maine, just a half hour south of Moosehead Lake, the largest lake in Maine, and 60 miles as the crow flies from the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail, Mt. Katahdin, in Baxter State Park. We offer both wooded and open sites that can accommodate most rigs. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, water, 30 or 50-amp electrical service, and most offer sewer. Groups and tent campers are welcome. Our campground has direct trail access to approximately 1,000 miles of ATV trails as designated by the Maine Bureau of Parks and Land. You can ride to Greenville on Moosehead Lake, Jackman, The Forks, Rockwood, Bingham, and Cambridge, all from the campground. We are also less than a minute away driving from Piper Pond, a 2 mile long lake with public boat launch and beach access. Onsite, we have a camp store and snack bar stocked with necessities, treats and goodies for the whole family, a heated pool, classic rec hall, and playground. We have three cozy rustic cabins as well as three deluxe cabins for those wanting to experience the beauty of the great outdoors but who may not be ready for the tenter or RV life.
