Great sized sites. Quiet and relaxing. The staff is extremely friendly. The dog park is large and plenty of shaded areas. The whole place is clean and cared for. This is our second year here and will continue to make it a yearly spot.

The most beautiful and well-maintained campground we have ever stayed at! The grounds and views were gorgeous. The laundry and bathroom facilities were super clean with new equipment. The front desk staff were very kind and helpful. By these things alone, this would be a 5 star campground. However- the campground backs up to a working farm. The deluxe site with the pergola that we stayed at backed right up the cows grazing pasture. So when the wind blew in the right direction, it absolutely reeked of manure. But that wasn't the end of the world. What really got me were the HORRENDOUS number of flies. As hard as we tried, we could not keep the flies out of our RV. We bought fly traps and had an electric fly swatter but nothing kept them at bay. It was a total deal breaker for me. If we end up back in the area, we would stay here again on the other side of the campground where hopefully there are less flies.

No big RVs or trailers (generators are allowed during designated hours, but we've never really found it a problem -- no RV, no generator for your A/C or DirecTV necessary). You get the feel of backcountry camping with the conveniences and amenities of a maintained campground. Plus friendly, down-to-earth, old hat co-campers. On one visit two adorable little boys were pulling a Radio Flyer around selling firewood collected on their family farm. Mellllt! There are only 31 sites here, so Lewis Mountain typically fills really early on weekends. Any weekend, not just busy ones. Your best bet is to show up Thursday evening/Friday morning (you're still lucky to get a site then...) or to come in the middle of the week. Lewis Mountain has a store, laundry facility, and showers on site. Laundry and showers are coin operated. There's a camp store for necessities. You can also rent one of a few cabins on the grounds. A great, private campground most easily accessed from 33 at the Swift Run Gap Entrance Station. Signs at the entrance stations will tell you whether the campground is full yet or not.

Tubing Review: We had an amazing time. Was is exhausting,…read moreyes. Worth it, yes! Owen was great. He was a great driving the stick shift bus back to the outfitters. It was nice being dropped off and picked up. We did have issues with our card online, but when I called in to book, Nancy was helpful. She got us all situated and sent an email to confirm. We filled out waivers online which was a breeze. We watched a quick safety video, picked up our lifevest and were on our way. The water was the perfect temp, and it was clear. Tips: bring snacks and water. You are out there 4-5 or longer hours. Especially if the water is low, which ours was. We used a waterproof bag and had no issues. We used a tube with a cup holder which was nice. I wore my life vest out of precaution even though I can swim, plus it made it comfortable for my to use it as a neck rest. I've noticed people mention in previous reviews that the bus was dirty ect. Um, you're in the woods. If you get picked up after many other groups the bus will be dirty as everyone is wet coming out of the water no matter what activity you choose. I would not own a brand spanking new vehicle for this type of environment and job. Used is best and saves money I'm sure. Wear a hat and sunglasses, put in that sunscreen. Bring a waterproof phone case/bag. You will have no service out there so put it on airplane mode and use it as a camera.

Nice pretty easy trail that loops around the lake (some parts are thin & steep, but made it through with the dog) . Absolutely loved this place on our vacation. Quite peaceful. Prices are extremely affordable (coming from DC and being used to paying up to $40 for two people to paddle board for 30 mins, which is normal for me). For $3 or so you can take out a kayak per person per hour. If you're fishing make sure to bring all you need and purchase your license AND additional $5 permit to fish there. They sell small snacks and ice cream. Bathroom situation is dicey considering it's a porta-potty but hey honestly all in all I would come again and I would spend days on end here either by myself or with family.

What a good HAWT time!…read more We came on a Saturday, mid August, and had a good, relaxing time. Besides the heat trying to take me out, I had absolutely no complaints. Front Royal Outdoors had their logistics in order from start (parking) to the brief bus ride, all the way to finish (exit). Our party all opted to do the deluxe tube (approximately $41 for the entire experience) that offered more support (a place to hold your beverage of choice) and the possibility to maximize on one's lazy river experience. As an FYI, every "order" of course came with a life jacket. The river itself was calm and effortless, for the most part. I think our experience was a little over 3.5 hours. My only recommendation would be to hydrate and find a time/date where the heat is not doing what it does best.... drains ya.

Upon returning to the car, discovered the keys had fallen out of the wet bag and into the river. I went to the river landing to see if they fell on the beach when I lifted the cooler float to carry it up the hill. Didn't see them there and one of the staff members told me to check the office and gave me a number to a locksmith. No one had turned in any keys and was offered no further assistants from the office staff. So, called the locksmith, took him over an hour to get there and almost as long to reprogram the key (lack of cell reception or WiFi). But, met the nicest people next door! Laverne and her brothers were very hospitable and friendly, offering us food, water and a warm fire to dry ourselves. We noticed that Bob (owner of FRO) drove down the parking lot and saw our vehicle and gear, then drove off. He didn't bother to get out of the truck, just paused at the vehicle and kept going. Not what I would call the best service, hence the three star review. I would give the neighbors 4 stars for going above and beyond being neighborly!
