I wasn't excited about having to travel for a weekend…read morewedding, but as soon as a pulled up where they had booked us at the Como Inn, I fell in love with the place. I simply love old places with history so this was right up my alley! The Como Inn is a full featured experience. Fully stocked with wonderful food, in an old building with multiple super comfy rooms. Check in/check out times are flexible which I also found as a nice Southern touch! Just use your manners. :-) The owners are just good, kind southern folk. If I didn't have to be in the wedding, I would have been just fine sitting out on the back great patio and shooting the sh*t with them. One thing to note, there is a long, shotgun staircase up to the room level so be aware of that should you have elderly or other similar needs. I consider myself old in my 50s and it is indeed a haul, but waits for you at the top of the stairs is an awesome experience! As far as the nearbys... plenty of food options from pub grub to Thia and Mexican and a steak house that clearly must be something because there were a line of people a block long wanting to get in there! There's also a store a few blocks up with all your basic needs including alcohol. I honestly wish we would have had more than one night and a rushed schedule as I could see myself spending an entire weekend trip there just to chill and we plan to do just that. I'm not sure how other people set up or if it's always set up this way, but the main table was set up inside the largest room with a snack table set up next to it. The cake was set up on a pretty display in the room across from that. The DJ set up in the pavilion outside and we used the area in front of it as the dance floor. There was outside seating that we all took advantage of when it was time to do the first dance and everything else that comes with a wedding. There were waiters available to help serve drinks and clean up afterward. The bride and groom had actually set up a taco stand outside of the other exit so guests could go get tacos whenever they felt like it for the duration of the taco stand. It was a lot of fun and a great use of the limited space, imo. It didn't feel as tight as I was worried it would and everyone had a great time. I would totally love to come back here.

There is an elegance about the beauty that is hard to find in homes today. "The Bridgewater School" was founded in 1911 and operated as such until 1960. It was assisted by the Rosenwald Fund in 1921 along with the Shelby County school board. Since being used as a school and community gathering place, it has also housed many travelers as a B&B. It was a very large room with all the modern amenities. Bathroom was large with a big shower and a soaking tub. Didn't try the tub but the shower was nice with good water pressure. Our host was knowledgeable about the house and answered all our questions. She offered up suggestions for dinner and the place she recommended was great.
