Despite being a hotel type of guy, I decided to take my friend's advice and stay in the Lee Suite of The James Lee House. Let me tell you - I am so glad I listened to my friend! Everything about my experience was extraordinary. The home itself is historically rich and tucked away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Inside made you forget about city life by magically transporting you to an elegant experience. I enjoyed waiting for my Ubers in the grand living room that opens to inviting formal dining room, walking up and down the staircase as if I was billionaire businessman, and being treated like a king at a luxury breakfast served by the absolutely brilliant, generous, kind, and hospitable innkeeper/chef, Stacee. The Lee Suite, with plenty of room to host a party for 20 people, offered tremendous light through the huge windows, deep slumber with the stately bed with adjustable settings, and shower/soaking options galore in the huge bathroom! I can keep going on and on, but when you have the beautiful soul of Stacee tending to you and the house, you will leave a better human being. When you come to Memphis, stay at The James Lee House and tell Stacee that Tomlee sent you!

Another great Victorian located in Memphis down near the Sun Studio. It is free to walk around and take photos but cost about $10 each to tour the inside. Great home !!!! History of the home: Set in Victorian Village, this elegant B&B housed in a grand mid-1800s Victorian Italianate mansion was once an arts college. It's next door to the Woodruff-Fontaine House Museum and 0.4 miles from Sun Studio. The 5 stylish suites feature soaring ceilings, fireplaces and sitting areas, plus flat-screen TVs and free WiFi. The updated bathrooms include refined touches like marble tilework, oversized tubs and walk-in showers.

12 million stars for this @JamesLeeHouse Bed & Breakfast! Easily one of the nicest (if not THE nicest) hotel in Memphis by far...and they definitely have everyone beat in the bed and breakfast game! I literally thought I was stepping into a magazine. Like that YouTube kid said, "Is this real life?" (See here if you have no idea what I'm talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txqiwrbYGrs ) Nestled in the heart of Victorian Village at 690 Adams Avenue, this place is a game changer for Memphis - unique, beautiful, special. Stunning, really. I've always wanted a Gilded Age themed party...and I'm totally doing one here for my 30th birthday party because not only can you stay here...you can rent out the entire house for parties and then spend the night! Woohoo! Suites: Crosley (1st Floor): $275/night Harsson (2nd Floor): $320/night Goyer (2nd Floor): $295/night Lee (2nd Floor): $450/night Isabel (2nd Floor): $245/night Counting down the days until I can come back here again! Oh, and this place would be a totally mind blowing space for a rehearsal dinner...or proposal...

Wonderfully comfortable bead and breakfast, the James Lee house has a select number of beautiful rooms and a very cordial and accommodating staff. High points, the rooms are beautiful and the breakfast is tasty. Jose, the owner is a wonderful host. Complimentary wifi and a beautiful service kitchen Notes: A very desirable place to relax and stay a few days, be aware of the check in and out times. Often times private B&B's as personal as this one have limited staff for such a well done turnaround. The Lee house also has a fine lower bedroom for those who find stairs troubling. A must stay in Memphis

That being said, if you are looking for the latest modern amenities and luxuries, this might not be the place for you. The wiring is old, the bathrooms are small and you have to use an actual key. But if you appreciate history, southern charm, cozy romance and unique spaces, you will be pleased. We had a view of the Mississippi River from our room, which I just loved. The bed linens are pressed and crisp. The beds are very comfortable. They left a carafe of Madeira wine and truffles for us, which was a nice touch. We also dined at Paulette's for breakfast. It is located in the hotel. Amazing strawberry popovers! ;) While the condition of the rest of the city made me downright sad, the hotel stood out as a little jewel.

And part of the window was on the floor in the bedroom. The front desk person said they would let the morning manager know in the AM. I called again in the morning and spoke with the front desk. I had to ask what they were going to do about it. He was able to reduce the room cost. It is still disappointing as it was only suggested for a different room after I had called twice and we had slept there. And no one came to replace the used glasses and water. This is not an inexpensive hotel- service was very poor.

We opted to upgrade to the Club Level Rooms on the 12th floor. The 12th floor is very exclusive. There is a private lounge and dining area on this 12th floor. There is a breakfast served daily and also an appetizer/charcuterie reception daily in the Club Level. It is very much worth the upgrade. The convention spaces at this wonderful hotel are very spacious. The history of the hotel and its "Peabody Ducks" are the show stoppers. Everyday there is a "Duck Parade/March" in which the Duckmaster and retrieves the ducks at 11a from their duck sanctuary on the top floor of the hotel. He brings them down the elevator to the lobby and they march on the red carpet into the famous and ornate Peabody Fountain. Then, at 5p the Duckmaster comes to retrieve them and does another "Duck March" back to the elevator to take back up to the duck sanctuary. People travel from all over the world to witness and participate in this ceremony. They have honorary duck Masters, people who have waited years, who practice the ceremony with the Peabody Ducks and Duckmaster. Everything was so well appointed and very ornate. There is also a history of the hotel that plays on the video in each room. If you have an opportunity in your lifetime to stay at this hotel and enjoy the amenities, I highly recommend it. There is also a pool and an athletic club on the lower level. I didn't have a chance to get to that area, but that was one of my goals so I have to save that for the next time I visit. Overall, the Club level King Room, the Club Level, and everything about our stay was 5-Star. The Bell Desk has Jeffrey who was outstanding at getting our bags upstairs to our room. The hotel registration process was seamless with Diamond handling all of our details and upgrade to a Club Level Room. Diamond's customer service was EXCELLENT and she made me feel welcome and valued as a hotel guest. Charles, we assume he is the lead Concierge, at the Valet area was professional and he made things happen for all of the guests. We are so impressed.

A Wonderful Night (knowing the negatives before Check-in)…read more Looking for a nice place to have a private staycation with my sweetie (close to our home in Memphis). I've had people personally recommend this inn to me, so I've wanted to stay here for a long time. But true to some reviews, I had a hard time simply making a reservation! No answer & no return calls. I even drove down here one day. The owners were out "running an errand!" I did speak to some vacationing there. Really! Finally, after a long time, I made a reservation just after Xmas (their slow season). The owner was very specific with details over the phone, because NO ONE WOULD BE THERE (eg which room would be ours, rules, etc.) We arrived (as did one other couple later) but NO WORKERS on site. Kind of creepy. This B&B has the feel of an old plantation. It feels like I'm far out in the county, although it's just minutes from the malls in Southaven, MS. The first employee we saw was the following morning-a very nice lady in the kitchen (separate building) that was preparing breakfast for us. Pros: + Our "Roane Room" was really nice! + Huge Comfy Bed & Big Ottoman + Cozy Fireplace (Gas) + Big AirTub + Huge Country Breakfast made fresh for us + Beautiful old home, lake, etc. + Off-Season price was A GREAT DEAL (w Breakfast!) Cons: - No one there on off-season (literally) - No alcohol allowed (they said you have to buy from them, but no one there!) - No restaurant, snacks, drinks, etc (Bring everything you might need. Eat before you come.) - Bathroom was nice, but TOILET was in the TINIEST ROOM EVER! Just more room than the toilet itself! MY knees touched the door!!! - We could hear the other couple across the home (he serenaded his lady to country ballets). Actually, that was quite funny! The pictures on the website are accurate. I was prepared & brought everything needed. We would come back & recommend.

We were looking for a quaint place to…read moresleep at while road tripping across the country but ended up being cat fished by this establishment. The photos online are beautiful but in person this place is horrific. We stayed in the Azalea and Wisteria rooms. When I first walked into the Azalea room i was met with a roach on the curtain, stains on the walls, another bug on the headboard, a decorative pillow that had half of it stained with red wine, and un-wiped tables/counter tops. We left for dinner and came back to find another huge roach in the corner of my dads room. I ended up peeling back all the beds sheets after having a hunch that the walls and carpet will probably reflect the state of the bed and oh boy was I right. My bed only had piss stains and a few hairs on the sheets. On the other hand my dads bed was piss covered. Multiple huge piss stains. We also saw a few blood stains, hairs from dark places, and wine stains. My dad called the receptionist and it went to voice mail. She then called back and we told her about the sheets and she replied, "Are you sure? those are new sheets." Its borderline belittling to be looking at heavily used sheets and have a woman who's not even in the room with you suggest that you're lying or blind. She then asked if we could check the other unlocked rooms. We only check one other room which was the Rowe room. This room was worse than both mine and my dads room combined. Yes there were lots of piss stains on the bed but I noticed a new substance I had not yet seen in the rooms we had. There was ejaculate everywhere. The bed, the chair in front of the bed, even parts of the god damn wall. The woman texted my dad apologizing and referred him to a hotel close by. He paid $260 for two FILTHY rooms. Luckily we brought our own sheets because we are taking extra precautions during this pandemic but if we didn't have them we would have definitely stayed at a different hotel. Dont stay here unless you don't mind snoozing on a urine soaked bed, having some insects as room mates, and sticky walls. The only positive thing about this place is the gray cat that followed me around while i packed my bags into the truck. I added all the photos where you could see the filth. Most of the photos/videos we took aren't the best quality because we have iphone 5's. PS I've come to the conclusion that everyone who has slept in this Inn had to have been plastered. I read a lot of reviews and none ever mentioned the hygienic state of this place. I would have to be wasted to not notice all of the grime in those rooms. Apparently a lot of people have weddings here? Could. not. be. me.
