As a Constant Traveler, I easily spend 10-15% of a years nights in Motels. I try not to spend more than $100/night if I can swing it, and this place barely squeaked in, due to the high reviews (8.8) on Hotels.com. This place is easily in the Top Five places I've ever spent. I wasn't sure whether to spend 1 or 2 nights in Memphis, but I was so comfortable here, I booked a 2nd night. I have attached pics of the room I got for about $105 (117 w/ tax). It is huge, with a full fridge, a microwave, a stovetop, and al the silverware/cutlery you need. Downstairs, there's a well-stocked snacks/food pantry for items available for purchase. And, amazingly, they even have a 'Lending Library', which I've never seen before. They have everything to lend for free, from coffee grinders to blenders to books & games for the family. Amazing. Decent Fitness room, as well. Close to the highway, Krogers, WalMart, and IKEA. it's away from traffic, quiet, and conveniently located. The clerk was friendly and helpful. And the 'Lending Library' is a clear sign they care about their guests. Only downside? No pool, but i knew that when i booked. And the room is fairly huge, comparatively. So much room for activities! The kitchen is almost full-sized! There's a dishwasher (i'd have happily traded for a toaster oven) , and a coffee-maker. Get a single king-sized bed room here. I highly recommend.

When we asked about linens for the sofa bed, she argued with us about the type of room we reserved, claiming we didn't have a sofa bed. She called us in the room 15 minutes later to apologize and say that we did actually have a sofa bed (duh, we were sitting on the sofa). The furniture is extremely worn and smelled musty. There was a roach in the bathroom. Upon checkout, I discovered I was double charged for the room for a two day stay. The front desk clerk promised a credit. My folio reflected a price adjustment, not a credit. Over two weeks later, I am still trying to get that credit. The front desk told me to wait and dispute it with my card if it didn't appear. Then yesterday, the manager tried to say I was only charged once and there was no credit (despite two charges clearly on my card). They even stopped answering calls from IHG corporate about this issue. They are ignoring the AmEx dispute. With so many options in Memphis, stay anywhere else but here.

My wife and I were continuing our road trip through the upper Midwest near the Mississippi River, and I had reserved a stay at this Memphis location of Hyatt Place, near the East side of town. This was convenient since we were planning to go to Louisville the next morning. We got to the hotel around 6 pm, finding easy free parking in the big surface lot, and our room was ready. The hotel has 126 rooms with 6 floors. It seems that the double queen rooms are more readily available when using points. This room also had a couch as well. The room had a small wet bar with mini fridge and coffee maker (which I used the hot water feature to make tea). Everything in the room worked well. The hotel has a small bar/restaurant called the Placery which we did not use. We did use the complementary breakfast, however, and it was the best one we had during our trip. It was the typical Hyatt Place set-up of the other places that we visited, with the same items. But everything was constantly filled and actually looked pleasing to the eye. The four hot items were french toast sticks, scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, and pork sausage...all in large quantities. They also had tortillas and plenty of salsa.The only small negative was that was no fresh waffle maker or pancakes. But for me, having the ability to create your own breakfast burrito made up for it.

The only issue I would say is the parking, there isn't a whole lot of it in the front and it's somewhat shared with Benihana's and some other place. The rear parking is in a dark area with little light and just doesn't seem the safest. So, if you get a parking space up front, try not to move.

I also looked at other review sites and saw that others have been bitten by bedbugs here so they obviously haven't done anything to alleviate a problem they are aware of. "Sorry about that" was the response from the front desk. The WiFi was weak. I ended up using my own hot spot. No password requires. Totally open network. Seriously, we wonder why data gets stolen? The morning breakfast was better than expected. Scrambled eggs, back, potatoes. Make your own waffle station. Yogurt, fruit juice, coffee all available. They even offered whole grain bread. Unfortunately, the toaster wasn't working. There are several other hotels within a block or two. I'd probably give them a try before I return to this location.

The lady was picking up the salt and pepper shakers 40 minutes prior to the end of breakfast. The maintenance guy came and got a whole lot of sausage and left none for the guests. The ice maker on our floor was out of order. The soda machine on our floor ate my money. The soda machine on the first floor was not working. The bed, AC were fine. The lady who checked us in was very nice and friendly. If I was to write a one sentence review it would be: an embarrassment to the Choice Hotel brand. Badda Bing Badda No! Wallpaper in the rooms is pealing, the window is dirty (and cracked!), vents look as if they haven't been cleaned in years, overall a dirty room. Public spaces were no better. Lobby is hot, many of the power outlets at the tables are broken or just don't work. The roof seems to potentially be leaking due to the carpet in the 27th floor elevator lobby squishing and sloshing beneath my feet after a rain storm. Also probably the first Hilton property at which I have stayed where I have not been acknowledged as a Diamond member. If this was a $90-$100 budget property in a better location then maybe, but you will probably have a better stay at any of the Hampton's in the area.
