The vegetation is too thick and dense to enter on Harbor Bluff unless you have a machete. The entrance in Village Point Park Preserve is more walkable with no hassles. Walk down the pedestrian only road in Village Point Park Preserve, within a quarter of a mile, there will be an unmarked trail on the right, the boardwalk may be slightly visible through the trees. a brisk, quick walk to this tree and bing, you are at the Jackson Oak. I don't understand why this tree has no historical marker, this tree was a between 300-500 years old. Great for kids, great for dogs, there are also various trails throughout the park. There is also an older cemetery in this park, a short walk away.

The area itself has seen better days with old picnic tables, over-growth and the boardwalk around the tree in need of cleanup and some attention. There once was an information button to press to get info about the tree but it does not work. I am hoping the city and mayor will invest in a little TLC for this walking path and area and spruce it up. It has so much potential to be a great outdoor resource for locals and tourists alike.

While most associate Mardi Gras with New Orleans,…read morebut it was Joe Cain who brought Beouf Gras, an ancient French observance now known as Mardi Gras, not only to Mobile, Alabama, but to America. So while New Orleans might get the majority of the attention around Mardi Gras, Mobile was the first place in America to ha e such a celebration. Joe Cain's grave is located in Mobile's historic Church Street Grave Yard, along with other city luminaries. This graveyard is a central location during the Mardi Gras celebration when the Merry Widows come to pay their respects at Joe Cain's grave. If you find yourself in Mobile, I would recommend a visit here. It is a cool old Cemetery that you can pay tribute to the man who brought one of America's most beloved celebrations to our shores.

Historical Spot in Spanish Fort is where a Civil War battle raged on for this teen days. My husband…read moreis a military history buff & combat veteran, so I researched this before we went. Alabama has a lot of military history, but there is no fort here anymore, but it once stood here. This particular location was chosen because it was the highest point in Spanish Fort and is on a steep hill. We got quite the workout going up and down the park. It has many commemorative plaques detailing the fort's history, along with a statue, and Confederate Flags. There is a wooden bridge and staircase, and benches. When visiting here, we felt a supernatural energy from the now deceased Civil War soldiers fighting here many years ago. This spot is nestled in a neighborhood, there is no parking lot, just watch for the historical Fort McDermott sight and park near it. This is a privately maintained park by an organization, so be aware that there are areas of poison oak, so you might want to wear pants.

From there, descend a wooden stairway down to the beach and water. There is a second wooden deck halfway down the stairs with benches where one can stop, rest, & look out at the water. The hillside surrounding the stairs is covered in vegetation, probably kudzu, but I could be wrong. Beautiful breathtaking views. However, I came very early in the morning, most likely at high tide, plus we had storms + flood advisories that week, so the water had come all the way up to the very bottom of the stairwell, so no beach access that morning. If that happens, May Day Park & Belrose Park are also nearby with beach and water access. There are No Parking signs all near McMillian Bluff entrance, streets are very old, narrow, & in residential areas. Please be aware.

The chapel can be rented out for weddings and events. There is an outhouse, but it was locked. There is a nursery directly behind the park that was growing fruit trees.
