When I started, I could barely utter a "merci" but left knowing how to conjugate several verbs and speak in the future tense, not to mention conquer what had once eluded me - mastering the French accent. My brother, who'd lived in Paris, complimented me on how my skills had grown over the course of my studies. And all of that was attributable to my masterful teacher Florent, buttressed by the tranquil and professional setting that is Aux Trois Pommes. I hope I can return and become fluent -- I'm now an Intermediate level speaker and writer, yah! -- and then my life will be complete.

The Creative Arts Workshop is the place to learn art, pick up a new technique, and meet other…read moreartists. My friend, who is an artist, introduced me to this place, and she says that CAW has a strong reputation in the art community. I have zero art background, but I have taken drawing and photography classes here. All the teachers were friendly, enthusiastic, and well-prepared. I felt like I learned a lot and that the teachers were encouraging of beginners. They have a huge variety of classes here including cool stuff I'd like to try like metal sculpture. There are both short workshops (good for artists who are already well-versed in a topic but want to pick up a new technique) and longer classes. The cost is a little pricey, but well-worth it in my opinion. They also have an exhibition space and show really nice artwork there. This past summer, my friend and I went to see a juried show there and it was very good. The Creative Arts Workshop is a fantastic place to learn art and join an artistic community. I can't recommend it highly enough.

In the Perspective Drawing of Buildings and Architecture workshop, Eric March introduced strategies, gave students a chance to experiment, and consulted individually to discuss what works for each person and how to expand skills. His presentation was clear, and his comments were gentle and specific. For me, as a non-professional with some drawing experience, the class was engaging and informative - a delightful way to spend two afternoons. Being able to see and draw things from different perspectives makes drawing more fun and satisfying. As someone who ordinarily is more interested in life than buildings, I also realized the advantage of starting with boxier shapes, knowing that I can apply the same techniques to the animate world now that I have seen how they work. I highly recommend the workshop and other opportunities to work with Eric March.

This is a wonderful organization that I am so proud to volunteer at. I tutor reading here 1-2 hours…read morea week. I have had the great opportunity to meet some very nice, wonderful kids, as well as, some amazing tutors and hardworking NHR people. Some of the kids I have worked with have ranged from 3rd grade to 7th. We do various reading/literacy activities via workbooks, computer games, and of course in the books they choose to read. Some times they bring school work and they always bring great stories about their day or what they did over the weekend. There are always apples or tangerines, and string cheese available as healthy snacks for the kids. There is also an amazing amount of books there FOR FREE!! I get so nostalgic when I walk in there because I see all of my favorites from childhood lining the shelves: Nancy Drew, The Phantom Tollbooth, My Side of the Mountain, A Wrinkle in Time. The staff makes it so easy to jump in and tutor. They are very understanding, supportive, welcoming, and just phenomenal with all of the kids. They know them all so well. I find that overwhelmingly impressive because there are so many of them! Volunteer, donate, visit, or peruse here. It is a wonderful program and place here in New Haven.

NHR is a great community organization! I volunteer there and I always come back with a few books in…read morehand. It's wonderful to be able to get books for free, and as a student, I can sometimes find books for English classes there. Beyond the book bank, the tutoring program is fantastic!

Can I just say how amazing Paul is? I was really nervous coming here because I never had…read moreprofessional photos' done. He is so comforting, warm, and really knows how to take headshots suitable for any occasion and any person. My fiance and I came to his studio for a headshot picture for my new job as an elementary school teacher. He was nothing but patient, encouraging, and warm. I felt more than comfortable being at this studio. What's so amazing about Paul is that he sees each person's authentic personality and captures you for you. He has this artistic grab in his photos. If you notice, he is not an ordinary photographer. His pictures are high quality and he can mold his pictures to your liking if pleased. I would highly recommend Paul 10/10. He is easy and great to work with. Also, his cute little sleeping doggy in the room next room is a plus too!
