I was looking for a dental practice closer to home and…read moremade an appointment for a routine cleaning - I'm usually really good about going every 6 months but due to another medical condition I'd been dealing with I hadn't been able to make the time for a checkup in close to 2 years. I've never had any major challenges, always very straightforward visits with the occasional issues. I appreciated the office accommodating my availability. I completed my paperwork in advance, arrived early for my appt and checked in , only to have 4 people come in after me be seen first. I thought it was really odd that the front desk called my cell phone looking for me while I was in the small waiting room but wrote it off. I was finally taken back 25 mins after my appt time. I was told a full new set of x-rays was needed which made sense, but was then informed it was 28 different photos. This felt really high to me but didn't question it; aside from the x-rat exposure it was also quite painful to have to repeatedly bite down on the positioned for the photos. A few minutes in a piece of the equipment fell off the machine onto me; the hygienist reattached it without apologizing. Before the dentist came I was informed that I could purchase add-ons that insurance doesn't cover, like fluoride and numbing cream. The latter should have been my cue to get up and leave. I'd never heard of such a thing in taking myself and my children to the dentist for many years. I declined. The male dentist was personable but was very aggressive in his technique. I'd never seen / tasted so much blood during a routine cleaning, which he claimed was due to the long time in between cleanings and/or some weakening of gums from my medical condition. I've got a pretty high threshold for pain but it reached a point where I finally had to cry out for him to stop. He quickly started shouting out an extensive list of cavaties, stains, and other damage - including damage to all four wisdom teeth that could potentially be "monitored" instead of instantly removed. When the exam was over I was given an itemized list of fillings / treatments / follow ups and the estimated bill to match and asked to immediately sign it. Normally I'm used to concluding an appt with a bit more guidance, kindness, and even a new toothbrush. This was such a bizarre and painful experience and it felt like I was being pushed into work that I suspect I don't need. I won't be back and will go elsewhere for another look. I'm just thankful that I endured this and not one of my children. I deeply regret not having checked out other reviews before giving this practice a try.

My one son never had a cavity ( knock on wood) The dentist knew my other sons medications and he ended up having a lot of cavities she blamed me and sent us to a professional kids dentist which was fine because I wanted a second opinion. They explained it was his asthma medicine that is acidic causing all his cavities. They were amazing I take my son there now and they haven't given him any X-rays

Unless I can't breathe, I would rather suffer alone at home. I've been to Dr's offices where you spend twice as much time waiting than receiving care. I have known Dr Garbis for a very long time since our kids grew up playing football together. But I only started going to him maybe 3 years ago along with my son. Let me tell you, what a world of difference. No longer are there any reluctance. The staff is professional, courteous, friendly and actually pretty fun to be around from start to finish. And they are really efficient. Hardly any waiting at any of the times I've been there. I even had to change schedule but none was available for the time that I needed for months. So I requested they put me on a wait list for that time if it showed up. Sure enough, they contacted me within a month because someone cancelled. Again, in and out like clockwork. I don't want to directly name my hygienist, since I don't know if she wants her name on here, but she knows who she is and I really have to give her credit for doing such a great job cleaning my teeth each time-- I certainly haven't changed my habits to make such a big difference! And just think, a good hygienist wouldn't want to work for a bad or unpleasant dentist. My time with Dr. Schwartz is short in comparison to the hygenist, but he's incredibly nice and I've had no complaints over any of the work that he has done. He pulled two teeth out as part of my invisalign treatment plan to make room for straight teeth along with two or maybe three fillings over the years-- all went very well and my smile and bite is better than ever. I've moved 7 times since 2006 and after one of the moves to the Baltimore area I was immediately looking into invisalign and the highly rated orthodontist that I found didn't do general dentistry but he recommended Dr. Schwartz so that is where I went. When I moved from Baltimore to Chicago for 3 years, and then from Chicago to New Orleans for another two years, I still flew back to baltimore for my dental appointments with Dr. Schwartz. I'm back in the area now and still seeing Dr. Schwartz with a mere 30-45 minute drive. If you live in Chicago, I'd still recommend Dr. Schwartz-- the flights between MDW and BWI are really plentiful and you can fly in for the day for an appointment.
