We had a wonderful breakfast today. The pancakes were deliciously large and otherwise perfect. We were introduced to biscuits and chocolate gravy. It was amazing; almost as good as cake. And then for the "icing on the cake". we were invited to join the "Smart Table". It was indeed the smartest thing we have done lately. Not only was the food tasty, the ambiance cozy but the company was delightful. Boyd introduced himself and we were thrilled to learn of his 80 some odd years here in Belmont. This is another little dive gem we found while getting our RV serviced in Red Bay, Alabama. It's a family owned restaurant that offers a multitude of choices that you can't go wrong with. My wife had the catfish filet with baked potato and coleslaw. She said that it was some of the best catfish she's ever had. The coleslaw was excellent and was only missing some green apple bits to be perfect. I had a double bacon cheeseburger with grilled onions that I loved. It was a "greasy spoon" delight. We stopped in for lunch, just beat the crowd. The layout of the restaurant is a little odd, you either order from the cashier or go into a cafeteria type layout to get a tray, utensils, then start selecting. Desserts are the first selection . There wasn't a server, so you have to wait on yourself. I had fried chicken tenders, fried squash, white beans and cornbread. My wife had baked ranch chicken, fried squash, and Mac & cheese. We were in the area for a few weeks to have service done to our camper. We visited Sparks every other day while we were in Belmont. Great breakfast, great sandwiches, and great southern style buffet. Other then wonderful dishes the biscuits with chocolate and rolls were so delicious we just had to come back to try everything else. The service was also great. True southern hospitality. So, there we were. We had just finished a nice afternoon hiking around Tishamingo state park and we're coasting through the little town of Belmont when my better half says those words that can often spell disaster after a nice active afternoon. No, not "I have a headache" but instead, "l'm hungry" just as we rolled past the Sparks restaurant. I did a masterful U turn and rolled upto this unassuming little joint. We entered to a open area with a couple of hand sanitizers on a table and a polite request that we use it and to please wear a mask, which we did. The service was walk upto the counter and order then sit and they serve you. Being the bold adventurers we are, we did just that. The Wife, eschewing all meat products, ordered a baked potato, hard scrambled eggs and salad bar (single trip salad bar) I explained to the very nice woman behind the register we were new here and would she recommend something? She recited off a couple of dishes before mentioning pulled pork, smoked on site! "Dang lady, you shoulda' lead with that one" I ordered the plate, crispy fries and slaw. For drinks we ordered coffee (made fresh bonus) and home made sweet tea (real, excellent and free refills) We were served in a reasonable amount of time and not disappointed in the least. The Wife declared the salad bar fresh and crisp with a decent variety. Her potato was a good size cooked through and steaming, served with melted Cheddar, sourcream and butter. The scrambled eggs done right (not runny). Another bonus, thay have a large bowl of fresh and truly home grown peppers for all to enjoy, all kinds, jalapeno, serano, yellow, cherry and such. Now, the star of the show, the pulled pork plate. As you see from the picture, they didn't skimp on the pork. It was served a little above warm and was cooked perfect. Moist inside and the outside crust bits were firm and rich with smoky flavor. There was just enough sauce to give the meat a taste without drowning it. (nothing special about the sauce, but, not bad) the frozen crinkle cut fries were indeed cooked crispy as I like and the slaw was minced unusually fine yet it tasted very good, I was reminded of KFC's slaw (a fast food weakness of mine) I do recommend it. Also, the plate was served with Texas toast. All in all, the food was great. Reasonably priced and the staff was warm and welcoming. From our experience, you can't go wrong here. read more

We stayed in Red Bay for Tiffin repairs. We were told this place was good so we came here twice for breakfast. I am giving it a 5 star for the welcoming atmosphere by the cashier. I didn't get her name but she had short hair and was super bubbly. She gave us a list of places to visit while we were in town. You don't get that in most cities. The food was good. I had the bologna with scrambled eggs. I loved the hash browns with onion and bell peppers. They were not crispy but tender. The gravy needed more spices or seasoning. We were not able to come for lunch or dinner. It's a short drive from Red Bay. We would definitely come back to try other meals the next visit. read more

We stopped through here while camping at Tishomingo state park and I am so glad we did. We both got burgers and I have to say it was one of the best burgers I've had in my life. Definitely top 5, maybe even top 3. I had a double bacon cheese burger, dressed with a side of spicy fries. Girlfriend had cheeseburger dressed either regular fries. The patties were juicy inside and crispy on the edges. The lettuce, tomato, Mayo were all in perfect proportions. Bun was soft, and bacon was crispy. Cheese was melty. This thing rivals Kenji's burger at Wursthall for sure. The woman who took our order was so nice too. Definitely worth going out of your way for! Get the burger! read more

Breakfast cooked to order! Reasonably price and excellent service. Tasted just like Momma's cooking. The food was so good we went back the next day for lunch. Lunch reminded me of small town America Blue Plate specials. My pick was the catfish and hush puppies and it came with two veggies, a drink AND dessert. All were great and the Pecan Cobbler was delicious! Menus are provided for other selection and there were lots of To Go orders going out the door. Went in around 1:15 on a Saturday and they close from 2 to 4 but felt like we had time. They had already pulled all food except the salad bar which was very unappealing. After waiting a few min w no one greeting us I finally asked can we still order a hamburger and was told yes. We ordered two w fries and asked for everything except cheese. The burgers were brought to the table w nothing but a meat patty . They took them back and then we got everything including cheese . They burgers were mediocre at best. The fries were hot and good. We felt like they really wished we weren't there. We ate and left at 1:40 so we didn't hold them up from closing. Maybe they only smile at regulars who knows. We won't go back and I don't recommend this restaurant read more

Nice find. Real popular with locals and passing vehicle traffic. They have a hot line and ala-cart ordering as well. Order at the counter and somehow they figure out who you are and bring it to you.
