The hostage situation begins in the parking lot. We spent over an hour of our finite time on earth waiting for their novelty "taxi" pickup. Let's be clear: you aren't waiting for an exclusive experience; you are waiting for the privilege of being marooned at a table where basic service goes to die. Once finally seated, we spent another 45 minutes staring into space, waiting for a kitchen that apparently treats the concept of "frying frozen food" as a complex, multi-stage culinary art project. When you finally get your hands on the food, you'll need a drink to wash down the grease. Don't let the menu fool you. They print an "okay" beer selection on paper just to maintain the illusion of a functioning establishment, only for the waitress to casually shrug and inform you that they don't actually serve any of it. Instead, your options are restricted to the absolute bottom-of-the-barrel, low-end macro-brews. There is a profound, tragicomic irony to sitting beneath a majestic prehistoric wonder while being forced to choke down a warm Michelob Ultra or a Natural Light because management can't master the logistical complexity of keeping standard inventory in stock. Mother Nature did a breathtaking job creating this cave. It's a tragedy that the people running it possess the hospitality standards of a neglected college dive bar and the efficiency of a DMV. Do not waste your afternoon being held captive by an establishment that relies entirely on a rock formation to excuse its utter incompetence. The atmosphere... SO cool! I mean how do you put a restaurant in the opening of a huge rock wall? It's a little bit out there, but worth a drive. The food was ok. Bar food and pretty good. They don't serve alcohol until 5pm (Alabama equestrian law). Our server was wonderful! Friendly and chatty. Gave us a lot of info on the restaurant and the area. We had wings-half buffalo, half BBQ. They cook them then put the sauce over them so you'll need a lot of napkins lol. The wings were a good size for the price. The loaded fries were amazing (LOTS of cheese and bacon - real bacon not the bits). And the "half" order of fried pickles... holy huge! We ended up taking leftovers home. Pricing was very reasonable. However - BEWARE - the prices on the menu are cash prices. If you pay with a card they charge you 4% Be sure to stop and the gift shop and wood carving store. That man is very talented! read more

I definitely want to come back here when it's warm. We came a few days after they opened for the season and it was still too chilly to sit outside. We did enjoy the ride down to the restaurant and we were starving when we arrived. They don't serve any alcohol until after 5pm. So there is that. Service was fine. What a unique concept, and a very fun visit! This saloon is definitely off the beaten path but well worth a visit if in The area. It's about 18 miles from muscle shoals in rolling foothills. We went on a Sunday afternoon- and the place was already hopping! The rattlesnake saloon is part of a larger complex which includes horseback riding trails, camping, hiking trails, and special events on the property. The weekend we visited they were holding a Jeep event- Jeeping the Saloon. There is a gravel parking lot and a small "bus" pick up area. You will need to park and take their transportation to the saloon (per signage). The transportation was a large pickup truck with wooden benches in the back. It does traverse down a very steep and narrow gravel road to the saloon. But honestly that's part of the entertainment! The saloon itself is in a large open cavern. Even though the temperature was 90° when we went the cavern kept its cool! The food we ordered was very good. The prices were moderate. There was live music which made it even more enjoyable. Great place- definitely recommend a ride out into the country and "off the beaten path" to try it out! read more

Super unique spot to dine as it is under a huge rock! I specifically came for the Key Lime pie; a few yrs back when living in south Florida, a friend and I went to the Keys for Key Lime Pie (one of the few desserts I actually like as I don't really have a sweet tooth) and they told me that this random spot in rural north Alabama had some of the best KLP that rivaled any in the Keys...so, natch, when I found myself in the area, I had to check it out for myself! I'm happy to report the rumor was true! If you are a KLP fan and in the area, highly recommend! They even have a "shuttle" from the prkg lot to the saloon (restaurant)...lol I missed this tidbit and walked all the way down, which I DO NOT recommend as it is a steep grade. Took the shuttle back, and it was an adventure! With the vibe of a dude ranch you might find in the Southwest, this place is a destination in and of itself. Though be warned, you will sweat even under the shade of the rock in the sweltering 'Bama heat of summer, so be sure to stay hydrated! read more

Long wait to ride the "taxi" from the parking lot down to the cave/saloon. Neat place. However, the night we went the band playing was extremely loud. You could not talk to the person next to you or the wait staff. Get a sound person that knows how to adjust sound for the venue. Food was decent quality bar fare. Our waitress was very friendly and nice but it was very difficult to hear her due to the band. I like live music but not so loud you can't even hear anyone else around you. What an interesting place! I can quite honestly say I have never experienced anything like it! The truck ride down to the cave restaurant and back up was pretty insane but I imagine better than walking. We were seated immediately at 4:30 on a Saturday and knew we had to wait until 5:00 for beer to be served. Service was fast - food came out quick but both our dinners were lukewarm - I suppose what we paid was worth the experience but why not do better and serve better food if you're doing it anyway? Wow!! What a fantastic place! The service is amazing from the very beginning! They meet you in the parking lot and drive you down to the restaurant, you get into the back of a pickup truck VERY easy to get into, has benches to sit on and thank god they drove us down I would have panicked all the way down! The wait staff is fantastic and friendly, food is amazing (my husband found his new favorite potato salad)!!!! My husband had the Duke Burger without the snake eyes and potato salad and I had the "Dilla"- chicken quesadillas with the chips and salsa - the Food was fantastic!! The ambiance is awesome!! A fun place to enjoy an unusual environment. The Rattlesnake Saloon is situated in a cave in the side of a mountain so the atmosphere is quite entertaining. This not an enclosed cave, more of a large opening that they have built in a saloon area where the food is prepared and the rest of the opening is a dining area with uplighting that accentuates the natural beauty of nature's work. To get to the cave, you park in a gravel lot and wait for the "taxi" which is a pick-up truck with easy to use steps leading to the bed where seats are on each side. The ride is fun and allows you to take in the beauty of the forest as you descend a steep road to the cave. Tips are strongly encouraged for the driver, but we were not prepared with cash, so it was a bit awkward climbing off without giving that tip. Once at a table, the menu is typical bar/saloon food and not anything special. I think that is very unfortunate, because with a great menu to match the environment, it would certainly be a truly special outing. That said, if you are expecting so-so food, but a very cool situation to eat it in, you will not be disappointed. Lastly, if it is cooler weather, be certain to dress for it. Such a beautiful and neat place! You park your car and a truck picks you up to drive you down. We didn't go for years because we were worried about the handicap accessibility, BUT the drive down is very short and easy, the truck that picks you up has stairs and handlebars, you also have the option to get in the cab of the truck so that would help people that are nervous. We drove 2 1/2 hours to go to lunch. Nothing what I expected. The ambience was gorgeous but it is not a saloon. You can get sweet tea, Coke products and a couple of different beers but that's about it there. The food was absolutely horrible. My husband got the barbecued pork which he didn't eat a quarter of. I got the Philly cheesesteak which was terrible could not eat the potato salad. It tasted like it was sour would never go back and it was quite a letdown. They were having a busy day. Most of the people were waiting to pay their bills and waited quite a long time. Our server was good, but we still chased her down to pay the bill. I would give it only a two just because of the ambience. The rest would be a zero. read more

It's been on my bucket list to come here and I finally made it! Woohoo! This place is very unique and worth a visit. This is also a campground with over 3000 acres. They have horses as well. While the horses are being used, they can't serve alcohol so there is no alcohol till after 5pm. When you come in the entrance there is immediate parking for the saloon. Right near the parking, there is a waiting area where you can get a ride down to the saloon. The saloon is under a giant rock face so while I wouldn't quite call it a cave, it's cave like. This is typical bar food but everything we had was very good. I ordered the chicken salad. It was really good! It had cranberries and crushed Pecans with lettuce and tomato on top. I enjoyed it very much. You get one side and I got the onion rings. They were really good! It was a little chilly sitting outside so I was a little bummed that their only hot drink option was coffee. If I had a recommendation for them it would be to add more hot drinks during the cooler months. Staff were friendly and the service would good. Go check it out for yourself! read more

Very fun and unique venue to check out! My family and I have wanted to visit for a while and it pretty much lived up to our expectations. For starters, once you drive up the long and winding road to the location, you'll need to park your vehicle and wait at a makeshift bus stop to be taken down to the "cavern" area. The truck drive down is a bit steep so just keep that in mind, especially if you're traveling with someone who uses a wheelchair or similar device (I'd assume an accommodation could be made by contacting management). The cavern area itself is pretty incredible! We dined at the tables under it which shaded us nicely from the May heat. There is also an attached enclosed dining space for guests who would prefer that atmosphere. I was very surprised that we didn't encounter that many bugs/flies outdoors! The food was better than I anticipated after reading other reviews, it's not 5-star gourmet but we were happy to dig into a pretty good cookout burger. I expected to get a Lay's bag of chips for a side, but was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed my home baked chips! My parents got the deep fried cheesecake, which I sampled as the photo shows - very sweet! Definitely a great summer vacation stop to visit, just be sure to check the weather the day of in case of rain or extreme heat. read more

We went to eat on a Friday night. The band kinda sucked but I think alcohol was involved. Speaking of alcohol it isn't a place to get a lunch beer. They don't serve until after 5. Dude that taxi's you back and forth is cool and takes tips. It was raining when we went back for lunch Saturday. The taxi was a little wet ride so this place is out in the elements. My best friend and I came to RS on a Sunday in early November 2019 to wrap up a belated b'day weekend for her, in Florence/the Shoals. Even though their web site says: "Sunday (open) 11:00am until 3:00pm (April 1st-November 30th while the weather permits)" - the saloon part of this place was not open. The people who worked there (??) were helpful and said it was fine for us to walk around and take pictures which we did and it is a really pretty area. small waterfall nearby and cool temperatures. I'll bet the cave dining gets/stays pretty cool year round. All in all a really pretty part of North Alabama. It is also the location of Seven Springs Lodge which has cabins and silos converted into cabins; horseback riding and I think stalls/horse boarding. They have a sundry/souvenir shop that we did not know about or we would have visited it. They appear to be up and running now, since COVID restrictions based on recent reviews, which is great. I can't speak to the food or service since, like I mentioned, they were closed when we went. Again, a cool (literally) natural spot worth checking out - just call first to confirm they are open. :) read more

Beautiful place to go to if you are close but I wouldn't expect any great service or food. Its a simple hamburger, sandwich, hot dog, quesadillla place. Your food comes on paper plates and Styrofoam cups for drinks. If I eat a burger that costs me $13-16 I would expect to eat it on a regular plate! The food was average. Not a lot of skill needed to prepare these dishes. Our waitress took our order and we got 1 appetizer that took 30 min to get. We waited on our food for almost 2 hours! We had a 2 year old and a diabetic that needed to eat. People that came in after us had been served and almost done and we were still without food! I went to the serving area ans asked about our food and could see on their computer screen that our tables were not in the list of orders! They lost our order..but then I was told we were next after the current order! Our waitress had been to our table 1 time to refill drinks! She never mentioned our food. She never told us there was a delay. The explanation i got from the server was that they had a group of 40 come unexpectedly that slowed them down. The restaurant will only hold a certain number of people so that wasn't the issue. There wasn't 40 extra people there. Im not sure id the issue is the servers or the cook staff but someone need to go in and do some hard-core training and updating their system. Don't expect anything more than a great visit to an epic place like no other. Take snacks if you plan on eating quickly because you probably will have a long wait. There is a band and it was good. Go for the experience, not the food. The experience of riding down to the saloon was one I wasn't quite expecting and it was unique for sure. The experience of eating in a "cave" was also unique. The service was quick and our server, Peaches, was quite efficient. The place was damp from all the water pouring off the rocks, but that was probably to be expected. I thought the food would be equal to the unique experience, but that wasn't the case. The cheese sticks, fries and onion rings were all frozen rather than being made fresh; their version of the Philly cheese steak with queso cheese tasted okay, but it was rather messy as was the chicken quesadilla my daughter ordered. It was edible, but not as good as it was hyped up to be on the menu. I was glad we went just to see what it was like. For a unique experience, come check it out. Heard about this place and decided to take a motorcycle ride down and check it out. It was definitely pretty cool the fact that you get to eat in a cave. Plus it's cool after being on a motorcycle for 3hrs lol. At first I was taken back cause when you pull in its pretty much a camp ground. But don't let it fool ya the restaurant is back a ways.
