This is a small, high-class Italian restaurant at the Parliament end of Great Peter Street…read more Unsurprisingly, it's a favourite for lunches with the Westminster village of politicians, lobbyists, trade associations and the like. The food is upmarket modern Italian, made with fresh ingredients, many sourced directly from Italy. I found the pasta to be fresh and tasty, with a wider choice of ingredients than I would normally come across - Cappellacci (little pasta pies) with potato & mozzarella, broccoli puree & pecorino di fossa cheese, for example. Vegetarians are reasonably well catered for, and they indicate a number of 'nearly vegetarian' dishes that can be made fully vegetarian on request, which is a nice idea. Soups and starters range from £9 to £10.50 and mains from £13.50 for pasta to £22 for steak or wild turbot (extra side dishes - vegetables or salad - come in at £3.50 per portion). Desserts come in at £6.50, but they are known for their Italian cheese-boards, featuring cheeses otherwise hard to find in UK restaurants: this varies from £7.50 for 3 cheeses, to a waist-expanding £11.50 for 7 cheeses (but can also be shared!). These are clearly very popular indeed and we saw several groups indulging. The wine list is also substantial - over 130 including champagnes - and this is a rather select mixture of French and Italian wines. A 12.5% service charge is added, so expect a two course dinner with wine to come in at around £50-60 a head: a simple lunch should be about £25 or so. I'd heard that service has been a problem for others, but my experience is that it was very good: if anything, the bread and water waiters were a little too attentive. We had to wait a little too long to order, but the food then came quickly, as did the coffee and the bill when we asked for it. It was all pretty friendly, as well - not as snooty as some places around Westminster can be. The price will make it mostly a business location, and it's clearly very popular for that: lunch bookings are essential. The tables are a little close together in places for a special intimate meal for two (some tables are better than others for this), but then again, who wants to risk having a politician on the next table on their special date? But they are happy to cater for groups and their website lists various group menus, which range from £30 to £44 per person (without drinks, sides or service). Note: they are open only Monday-Friday.

April 7, Albertini Restaurant…read more Our family of four with two kids ages 9 and 10 visited for dinner. A relaxed, casual Italian spot with great energy and strong value. It ended up being our best meal in London. Arrival and First Impressions We walked in without a reservation and were seated easily. The restaurant sits right on the street with both indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant has two indoor rooms with the kitchen in one of them, and the smells immediately stand out. Staff were friendly and attentive, and the room had a great mix of locals and visitors, which gave it a fun, authentic feel. The Highlights The food was the star. I had the risotto frutti di mare, which was excellent, though it did need a bit of salt and pepper to really bring out the seafood flavor. My son, nine, had the pizza Americana without chili oil and loved it. He said the crust was moist with a crispy edge. The pepperoni had a bit of spice but he still enjoyed it. My daughter, 10, ordered the ravioli di aurora. She was not a big fan due to the spinach filling, but we swapped for a bit and she loved the risotto. I really enjoyed the ravioli. It had a soft texture with a light tomato sauce that was very well balanced. She also had the garlic mozzarella pizza, which ended up being her favorite. The Challenges A few dishes needed seasoning to reach their full potential. It would also help to have a couple of simple kid options, like plain cheese pizza or plain pasta. Kid Logistics Overall, very easy with kids. The relaxed pace and friendly staff made it comfortable. Would We Return Absolutely. Great value, great energy, and some really strong dishes. A deeply disappointing and unsafe experience--especially for women…read more I visited this restaurant while traveling, hoping to enjoy a special dinner with my cousin whom I hadn't seen in a while. Instead, we endured a distressing and frankly dangerous evening due to the staff's gross negligence and failure to protect us from an aggressive, clearly inebriated man. From the moment we were seated on the patio, the man--also seated outside--began harassing us. He repeatedly ignored our verbal boundaries, attempting to pet my cousin's small dog despite being told "no," and proceeded to interrupt us at least ten times. Staff witnessed multiple instances of his behavior, including when he shoved his face into our dog's space and grabbed at him while my cousin was holding the dog in her arms. He called us "annoying," tried to provoke the dog to bark, and refused to leave us alone. When we told the manager that the man was becoming aggressive, he assured us that he would "kick him out," - we all heard him say this. But instead of following through, the staff allowed the man to continue drinking on the patio--despite being overtly inebriated. He returned again, increasingly hostile, and even grabbed my cousin's arm while trying to lunge for her dog. He then threatened my partner while we loudly pleaded for him to stop. I and another woman (the hostess) had to physically put our arms between him and my cousin to keep him away. His wife eventually came over--also seemingly inebriated--and meekly pleaded with him to stop. At this point my cousin screamed at him which finally got him to leave. At that point, I went inside to speak with the manager, who immediately defended the man by saying, "Well, he's a regular," as if that justified his behavior. When I reminded him of his promise to remove the man, he denied ever saying it. Only after THREE other patrons at the bar stepped in to support us and confirmed that this man had been bothering multiple guests did a second manager come out. We explained that they failed to intervene, failed to protect their guests, and essentially enabled an unsafe environment--particularly for women. We felt gaslit and victim-blamed. I want to note: I paid my bill in full. I didn't demand compensation. As we walked out they offered us a paltry round of drinks. That tracks with their overall approach: excuse the aggressor, ignore the women asking for help, and only apologize when publicly confronted with the facts. Additionally drunken, aggressive behavior is par for the course at a pub -- I would have expected better at a restaurant like this. On top of all this, the dining experience itself was mediocre at best. Our courses came out in the wrong order, there were long delays between them, the chicken was dry, and the staff lost track of our drink order twice. This wasn't just bad service. It was a failure in basic decency, safety, and respect. If a man harasses women and your team watches it happen--and does nothing--you are not just running a bad restaurant. You are enabling harm.
