I had a very complicated history and the staff took their time and reviewed my case, talked with me, and referred me to other professionals they felt might assist. In the end, they recommended a total change of direction. While I initially was a bit hesitant to go in a new direction, I took a leap of faith and followed their recommendations. Boy was I glad I did.....I have returned home, followed their suggestions, dropped my old psychiatrist, found a new psychiatrist and have been feeling better than I have in numerous years. When I asked for a referral the clinic manager called and was rude. She refused to give me a referral because a new doctor might be late. I began going to Allina primarily for my weekly allergy shot injections but also to be under the care and supervision of a psychiatrist. Since Allina is close to St. Olaf, it seemed like it would be easy and convenient. Sadly, my experiences at the Northfield Allina Health Clinic have been negative. First, despite having a regular appointment time every week, I am often waiting for a while after my appointment time to be seen. Second, the individual administering my allergy shots tends to speak to me in a condescending and rather insulting manner. Yes I am on the autism spectrum, but I am an adult and I don't need to be talked-down-to by my medical provider that I am paying for. Third, they have a policy where you MUST wait 30 minutes after receiving your allergy shot (in contrast, my allergy injection clinic at home in Illinois typically does not make me wait, and when I rarely do have to it is only for 10 mins; also, I have epi-pens and have had no adverse reactions in the past so this policy just wastes my time. Fourth, my family helped me set up care with a psychiatrist at the start of the school year. A month or so ago, I found out my psychiatrist was unexpectedly leaving the Allina Health Clinic. They assured me they would transfer me to another psychiatrist at the clinic for continuity of care. Well that was a lie. The soonest appointment with this new psychiatrist was not until three months going forward. Yikes. As if that wasn't bad enough, Allina called me to tell me they had an earlier opening for a 7:45 am appointment in January. I was excited and relieved I would get to see my psychiatrist sooner. Then they tell me the provider actually doesn't come in that early, that I will have to reschedule, and that they already gave my original March appointment to someone else so it will take even longer to see someone. Seriously!? You call me to reschedule me to a time slot that actually doesn't work and then refuse to give me priority to my original appointment date and time? Avoid this clinic at all costs. The only reason I still use them is because I am their hostage / have no other choice. I am not allowed to administer my own allergy shots, the St. Olaf nurse's office does not administer allergy shots, and the Northfield hospital does not administer allergy shots either. So for now I'm stuck with them unless I decide to drive for an hour into Minneapolis or St. Paul for better quality and more professional healthcare.

I'm a current patient of Angela Melland, and I am so thankful I was referred to her through a…read morefamily friend. While other reviews are correct, they do require a $200 deposit for your appointment, that $200 is used towards co-pays and any fees. In my case, I was tired of going through the gamut with poor quality providers and wanted someone that was thorough, so I was willing to pay up front based on the referral I received. Once again, I'm so thankful I did - Angela has changed my life drastically, for the better. From day one, Angela listened to my concerns and the struggles I was having, while validating what I was feeling and explaining why I was feeling that way. She is passionate about the work that she's doing and it shows in her commitment to her patients and their overall wellbeing. She takes time to attend conferences and reads in her time outside of work, to continue to improve her knowledge in the area that she is providing service for. Through her recommendations of several books and online resources, I have been able to educate myself on what I (and others) experience so frequently. Angela took the time to listen to my concerns in regards to medication - something that any mental health patient values - and she didn't disregard what I said. She requested lab work to ensure she was making the right medical decision to proceed and validated that the symptoms I was experiencing weren't coming from another source. We found nothing wrong with the current plan, which another provider wanted to abruptly stop, and I was able to continue my treatment. This allowed me to work with Angela over six months, to build a solid treatment plan, that addressed ALL of the issues I was experiencing. I don't see Angela as frequently as I did while we were building my treatment plan, but every visit is the same experience: Angela is a thoughtful provider that is exceptional in her field. She has expertise that cannot be overlooked. I would HIGHLY recommend Angela, and I do, to anyone looking for mental health support.

But when I called the pharmacy to check way it was taking so long they told me Open Door denied the refill, but no one from Open Door let me know that. I called them today to ask about that and see if they can fill for one week before I can get in to the new doctor and they said no unless I want to come to Mankato to see them first, which again I can't do!!!!!! I feel that because this is a daily needed med that 1 week isn't asking much. So now I will be going on a second week without my daily meds. I hope they can sleep at night.

And then she started to attack me verbally about my meds. She did not explain anything to me. I tried to tell her that I didn't understand. She asked me nothing about my health conditions mental health conditions. She asked me no questions immediately started attacking me about what a psychiatrist had prescribed me. I was very confused at first also felt self-conscious felt self-conscious about the way I was being treated. Then it finally clicked and I realized she didn't like the meds my previous prescriber had given me. She did not explain anything to me. She just verbally attacked me. I told I told her that I didn't understand and then she said do I want to leave now . So she asked me to leave. I had no idea how to get out of the building. And I had to ask for three times for her assistance to get to the lobby. Then I got a little angry and I told her she was rude and nobody deserves we treated the way she was treating me. I went home I slept and cried all day long. Nobody under God's green earth should ever be treated like that especially somebody that has anxiety depression post-traumatic stress. Even if you don't have any kind of mental disabilities nobody should ever be treated like that. It was a second most horrific thing I have been through. In my life. I totally thought about maybe I wasn't good enough to be helped by the professional fields. And maybe I should just go home and die.
