A spartan race in a baseball stadium instead of a mountain near the middle of nowhere what can one expect. Since its at a stadium there's no mud, barbwire, or fire pit to jump over with a few obstacles missing from the traditional Spartan races they make up for it with a few more physical challenges like box jumps, floor push ups, jump rope with a battle rope sized rope, & a few other cross fit type of exercises. The race starts inside the concession area of the stadium, heads down to the field, thought the players clubs house, around the inside & outside of the park & finally finishing on the field where you get a photo op on the field. The race was shorter than I expected only 2.25 miles accorded to my phone (that ended up with a shattered screen when my arm band flew off while I was jumping over one of the 8 foot doors. The only time I brought my phone on a obstacle race & I paid the price.) Besides the distance being short the race still covered a lot of the ball park, after the race there's the usually protein bars, bananas, water, & they even offered a free beer this year (Coors light, not shock top or bud light like they have at the normal Spartan races.) The concession stands in the park are also open so there's food & drinks available. If the dirt & danger of the regular Spartan races seems like too much for you the stadium series races might be the thing for you. Less natural elements but the same Spartan experience.

    2017 finisher medal.

I have run this race several times (I believe at least twice, but I have lost track; my lifetime…read morerace count since taking up running in 2014 is north of 250 at this point). I would run it again. It has a big bonus for anyone who wants to be awed: you end up inside the stadium, and they allow you to lounge around on the outfield. Even if you are not a baseball fan, that is a once-in-a-lifetime experience (well, more than once if you sign up, but you get the gist of it). It has an oddity of organization: they announce the date very late, so you cannot plan. I cannot figure out why that is, since it is professionally run. In addition to the medal, you get a bobblehead. (You can pay extra for the bib to be mailed; I always look for that, because my time is worth it to me, avoiding a needless trip to the Expo.) The other aspect of the race that should be mentioned is how flat the course is. It is an out and back along the Embarcadero, not too far from the Ferry Building (to the southeast of there), along Fisherman's Wharf, to the far side of Crissy Field. For the Bay Area, it has to be among the races with the least vertical gain. The field also has participants of enough different speeds, you won't feel as if you're doing terribly. There is a three hour time limit, so if you a pure walker (versus a run walker), you might need to speed up a bit. I am at the back of the pack myself, so I pass no judgment. (I've been finishing the race slower than 2:45, and it's fine.) PS I looked it up on Athlinks. I have run it three times. In doing that, I saw something I had not expected. The field has been shrinking. It was 3500 plus the first time, and 1200 the last time. That is a considerable change.

I was one of them shy and chicken type person that was afraid of doing it!!! And a lot of former co workers and also my brother has done it before!!! And most of my co workers had said to me, William you should go and try it out and have don't worry about being afraid!!! A lot of Giants Race runners start out slow, and with a lot of encouragement from my co workers and family!!! As when the new year of January 1 2018 came around... Okay I have said to my myself my goal of 2018 was go and try doing the San Francisco Giants 5K Race!!! And on that day of July 4th 2018 the time has finally come to me... I signed up for my very very 1st time on the Giants Race website and the rest is history!!! And from there, I started training & preparing myself by running around Lake Merced and other places in San Francisco... So I had 2 months to get ready for 2018 San Francisco Giants 5K Race!!! As the month of July and August which went by quick and when the month of September 9th 2018 was here!!! My time and day has finally arrived to go and run the Giants 5k Race!!! When I got at to AT&T PARK I was amazed to see a lot people who had signed for the 5k Giants Race!!! When I lined up at the starting line with my brother who also ran with me at the 5k Giants Race... When the timer has finally started, I said yayyyyy I am finally here and doing it!!! In the beginning, I started out slow with a normal pace and then started jogging little by little and some running by not over doing it towards the Embarcadero Ferry Building... From there it was a turn around and back to the Finish Line inside of the AT&T PARK BASEBALL FIELD!!! As I started running back towards the Finish Line inside of the Baseball Field I have said WHAT HUNTER PENCE WOULD HAVE SAID YES YES YES!!! Now that I have finally conquered my fears by not being afraid and I can now say I DID IT I DID IT I DID IT!!! Yet another Only-in-San Francisco event. Every Easter Sunday children & adult children ride…read moreridiculously small children's trikes, skateboards, office chairs, much etc, while wearing unrelated to Easter costumes, down Vermont street in Potrero Hill. BTW- Vermont St is the Real crookedest street, not Lombard. The onlookers stand behind rows of hay bales. Don't poke your head out to take a pic or you'll get your nose broken, and you'll have to wear a big honking white cast on your nose for a week. Not that that ever happened to me one year. The kids race down the street first at 3pm. Even toddlers, with parents running behind with a leash. The crowd is so generous with the hesitant littlest ones, cheering wildly. The adult children start at four, when all hell breaks loose, runaway plastic wheels down the street, pileups, crazy costumes, and adult sized people on impossibly small wheeled toys. It's not too hard to get a good view. Truly a feel-good fun event for the entire family. Put on your must-see list. Bring your friends from out of town. Enjoy!

BYOBW is a fun free event that happens every Easter Sunday (minus the last two years due to COVID)…read more Participants bring trikes and big wheel creations (rules say plastic only), and come to glide down the curvy hill adjacent to McKinley Square Park and within the neighborhood. This is the first time I discovered a crooked street in SF other than Lombard, and I actually like it better because it doesn't try too hard to be this fancy tourist spot, and yet the area's inviting with lots of trees and greenery that make it a great setting for an event like this. The organizers seem pretty chill without being super strict with rules like some other comparable events. You participate at your own risk, you cross the course at your own risk, you climb the pathways as a spectator at your own risk. Love the casual feel, yet still organized well to minimize problems. The curves of the course are lined with bales of hay, to protect people from crashes. But nothing bizarre/ dangerous really happens. I attended the 2022 event this past Sunday. The kids' event is in the early afternoon. Then the adult race was from 3-5pm. I thought parking would be a nightmare but finding free street parking actually wasn't too difficult, especially if you know the neighborhood. It's somewhat crowded because there isn't a lot of space along the curvy hill, and a lot is not level ground. But we easily found spots to sit and watch up close, without arriving early. There are steps along both sides, a bit on the steeper side, a perk of having plastic trikes that are not too heavy since racers have to carry their "big wheels" up to the top to slide down multiple times. The entertainment value is high, spectators cheering, racers screaming, crashing, spinning, laughing, and everyone just having a good time. Grown adults, most dressed in funky costumes, attempting to ride little girl trikes down the hill, wheels falling off and everything! Yep, makes for a good show. I only saw the end of the kids event (cuz i came to watch the adult race) but some parents/adults were holding or running down the hill with their kids' trikes. The adult race was definitely more exciting. This isn't a race to win... its all just for fun (for both riders and spectators), and I only stayed for an hour but definitely had a lot of fun. It only happens once a year in Potrero Hill, but it's totally worth checking out.

The surrounding neighborhood is a highlight of the experience as well. The outer downtown area is vibrant and filled with great spots to grab a drink or a bite before the first pitch. Getting to the game is remarkably seamless with Caltrain located right across the street, and there is also plenty of parking available nearby if you decide to drive. My food highlights include good food choices overall, with iconic stadium bites that never disappoint, even if the prices are definitely on the spendy side. On a warm, sunny day, you truly cannot beat catching a day baseball game here. If you are looking to watch the best team in the Major League at a world-class venue that perfectly blends classic baseball nostalgia with top-notch views and easy transit, Oracle Park is a must-visit destination.

That changed thanks to the club level experience. We have club seats with friends, and while there's no way we could go to 80 plus games a year, attending a few times a year with friends to enjoy the seats, the fan excitement, to catch up, and enjoy the game, that is really something my spouse looks forward to, and I'm learning to love it. The club level is calmer with different seat views, separate entrance and food and drink options. Recently we were invited to the Audi Dugout Club, next to the Giants dugout and we felt inspired seeing Giants warm up before their at bat. The Giants may not always win, but don't lose hope, loyal fans! We've got a modern stadium that's beautifully situated on the Bay, interesting food and drink options, and gotta root for the home team. Even for a somewhat reluctant fan, the club level atmosphere makes attending an SF game extraordinary.

But I did also pass many people wearing A, B, D corral letters who were taking it easy and just walking. It's more of a parade/festival than a run. I think that is a huge draw for the crowds, especially those with a disability or older folk. Walking is still movement, and I love that this is just a fun excuse to get out and move with the crowd, see parts of the city that you usually don't see, and party your way down to the ocean with the Bay Area community! The vibes were immaculate! I loved the Biofreeze zone, getting sprayed down with menthol-y goodness at mile 5. The spectators are awesome--I got a tiki drink, a can of red bull, hit a bunch of Super Mario blocks to power up, saw Kermit the frog and his puppet friends, Loraxes and racoons partying in the streets, a silly human pitstop, and the med tents got me covered with extra SPF. Luckily I didn't notice anyone "way too drunk" and messy, like I've seen some old reviews mention. I did notice security asking people not to drink on the course, but it seems the sidewalk stop is fine, just don't run on course with alcohol? Water guns will get you feeling fresh again. Plenty of water stops along the route. **The porta-potties however need to extra toilet paper or someone to bring extra toilet paper. Also hand sanitizer or wash stations would help a lot. Now that we've been through COVID you would have thought the organizers would taken this part into consideration.*** The shirt and medal is so cute, designed by a local artist. Although I really wish they would make a sun shirt long sleeve style next year to protect us from the sun! It's as challenging as you make it to be. You can run the entire thing, or walk it with friends. Because there is so much to see I didn't feel the distance. I regularly ran 5k before this so if you're not used to moving you might be sore the next day! Do be aware that quite a lot of people run nude, not kid friendly/NSFW. Just like that, we could see the ocean, the finish line. Can't wait 'til next year!
