I reached out to Desmoto Sport because I had just bought front and rear tires, Brembo rear rotor, and Brembo brake pads and was looking for a quote to install them. Scott responded giving me the quote. After he also sent me a link to a Brembo rear rotor. I checked it and noticed the part number was different from the one I had just ordered, the day before, from Italy. I Googled it and apparently the part I bought was incorrect and the one Scott had sent was the correct part number! I immediately panicked and luckily was still able to cancel my previous order of the incorrect rear rotor! Phew! That was a close call! Would've been stuck with it if it had already shipped out from Italy. Scott did not have to send me a link to the correct part number but by him doing more than he needed to, he saved me a big headache. I was a little surprised when BMW San Francisco didn't seem all that thrilled to work on my 1999 BMW R1100RT with 50k on the clock. So... I found Desmoto Sport here on Yelp. So far? Great! Didn't feel like I was being "upsold" or being steered into anything the bike didn't need. It was suggested I upgrade to stainless brake lines WHEN THE FRONT BRAKE PADS GOT WORN (23 year old rubber lines) This wasn't presented as an urgent gotta do it NOW or you're gonna end up in a fireymangled crash kinda way, it was explained in a way that made perfect sense. I want to back up here, I have spent several decades as an auto/truck tech and perform some service and repair on my motorcycle. I do have an advantage, I kinda know my chit around mechanical beasties. I also know what a total pain-in-the-sphincter *some* customers can be due to their lack of knowledge and understanding of the basics. I do understand what a totally mysterious, almost magical thing a motorcycle or any vehicle for that matter, can seem like. I'm that way with most of the "tech" around today. It's not that a shop charged you SO much for something that took such a short time to do, it's all the time, training and experience it took to LEARN to do it in such a short time. Skilled techs should damn well get paid great wages PERIOD! Add to all that, tools and equipment, parts inventory, rent, utilities etc... THAT'S what we're paying for! So stop whinging & whining about the cost of skilled labor, suck it up and pay up or... Go to school, buy all the tools & equipment, rent the space and do it yourself. And c'mon guys, get a friggin clue here will ya? The oil change you had done MONTHS ago has absolutely nothing to do with your 4 year old battery going dead or the fact your brake pads are worn from all that canyon-carving you've been doing! I've been going to see Scott at Desmoto for over ten years and have always had stellar service. I could always count on Scott to tell me if mods were worth it or a waste of time. When my 748R blew up he made suggestions that dramatically proved the performance. It is the only shop I've been to that has always been ontime and on budget and never had to take a bike back because they missed something. For example when my online started leaking I took my bicycle Kenton's local shop that was known for suspension. Three months later and the forks were leaking again. I called Scott and told him where I took it and he said they are known for using cheaper Yamaha parts on the onlins. Took it to Scott who used genuine Ohlin parts and two years later no issues. Was hesitant at first to bring my Yamaha here as they specialize in other brands, but am so pleased to say I finally found a shop in SF I trust. I had them install various random things and have been very pleased with the work they do as well as their responsiveness and knowledge. I had work done at two other major shops in the city and had horrible experiences both times. SFMoto refused to let me ride my motorcycle out of the shop and said I needed a tow due to a slightly glazed rear brake rotor that I wanted to fix myself. TokyoMoto was nice but failed to notice a new chain hitting against the peg, and incorrectly installed the wrong clutch cable. Don't waste your time with other shops! read more

They are very honest and professional in what they do. I had a slight clutch problem on my Moto and stopped by the garage. They kindly spent their time checking the cables and other settings. They kindly let me leave the bike overnight for further checks, and call me very next morning to inform me that they have fixed the problem just by adjusting the cable for a small fee, where they could have told me to replace the clutch disk, which they can charge more $$$. I got great service. They didn't try to push any extra repairs on me. I just needed a 30k service and some minor cable thingys. That's what I got and thats what I paid for. That's the way it should be. I have a lot of other things I want to do on my bike and dont have the time, so I feel good about bring my bike back to them. Desmoto Sport is the perfect example of a highly knowledgeable, dependable, and incredibly honest performance shop. What's even better is that they are an authorized Ohlins Service Center. These guys know the dark arts of motorcycle suspension. Highly recommended. I had the luck of picking up some slightly used Ohlins parts for my 2017 Aprilia Tuono RR. On the phone, Darren let me know that it shouldn't take more than a few hours tops. I brought the bike by for Scott to check out and he estimated about 2 hours for all the work. Including setting up my static sag front and rear. Dropped the bike off with Brien on a morning and it was finished by mid-day. This is what I call exemplary work! Total time was slightly under 2 hours, so I'm happy as a clam. My Tuono now feels amazing in turns. Totally planted. Like a guided missile! Desmoto is now my go-to performance shop. Really bad service, I took my bike in to get it fixed it was in the shop for two weeks. I had to call them for updates. They kept saying that they would call me to let me know what was going on. They finally said it would cost 2100.00 dollars to fix what they thought was the problem 0 compression on one of the cylinders. Which I didn't understand because I drove it prior to taking it to the shop with no back fire, no smoke and the problem was that it would turn off when I put it in gear. I started calling around and multiple people said it sounded like the the clutch was the problem. The owner kept telling me it what he thought was the problem. I asked him if you had over 25 years of experience working on motorcycles you should be able to tell me what the problem is instead of assuming it might be this or that, but instead he constantly gave me estimates instead of solutions prior to this he told me that he adjusted the chain, adjusted the valves, adjusted the clutch when I showed up to pick up my bike none of the work was done! Beware of the people who try to get money out of you just because they have a shop! When I asked what was Mission Statement he just smirked read more

Came to this shop because I had an issue I wasn't sure about. 4 stars for service / greetings, zero star for follow up, and definitely no star for prices. 2.5 hrs for something that have done myself in the past and took me 45 min. Pricing on parts that can be found online for 50% cheaper than what they charge. Maybe their hourly rate is less expensive than the dealership but dealership may have not charged as much for a couple things easy fix! Disappointed, very much so. if you need to work on your bike and don't have tools, go next door "piston&chain", at least you pay for a membership but you ain't being ripped off on hourly labor. I started out taking my Triumph to Munroe Motors where I had purchased it. They are a good place to buy a bike and helpful in getting parts but always seemed too busy to get the work done in the shop. I switched over to Desmoto about 8 years ago and never looked back. These guys are consistently great. Every member of the staff (Scott, Darren, etc)is polite and helpful. I've had them work on two of my Ducati motorcycles and they have done great work. They have given me great free advice and even though they are busy, they have a good turnaround time on repairs. One time I had them work on my older bike that had been exposed to rain and they were able to get it running after I had many unsuccessful attempts. Then when I was trying to drive it away, I started having a problem with the clutch sticking due to rust and they fixed it on the spot! I highly recommend them! read more

Took my KTM 390 Duke in for its 1,000km service and had an excellent experience start to finish. Was able to get in quickly, whereas Scuderia and Ace (Concord) often have long waits. They were friendly and competent, and had it ready for me the next day. As a bonus, the service price was much less than what I had been quoted at Scuderia and Ace. Seems to be a great place for service on Ducatis and European bikes (and more, in recent visit I think I saw every type of bike there). I haven't had much done yet so it would not be fair for me to rate them too highly, just one visit for some minor stuff, but so far everything has gone well and they are nice blokes to boot. FYI, end of the day traffic on and around 9th street gets nasty, leave yourself some time if you plan on going there around then. PS: As with all service, remember to ask for your stock parts back when picking up; I forgot and managing to get back there is a pain. read more

Each time I came they were professional and very helpful in offering solutions to my bike issues-even when I didn't come with a bike for them to fix. Maybe it's just my experience but, other places I've gone to have been super condescending to me and just all around jerks. While the other shop in town that starts with D and ends with I is full of people that can't take your bike in in the next month, these guys get to it right away usually, and can turn it around fast. I did the 3k tuneup on my 2013 Monster 796 there and when I had issues with the brake being mushy, they aired it out for free, as they should. Also didn't charge me to test a power issue. My Multi has been here twice for engine repairs. The first time was just a MAF sensor, but the second time a con rod bearing was shredded with bits of copper in the oil. I took my 2014 Bonneville to Desmoto to have a new set of tires put on due to mine being Very old. Brian told me what options there were and would be the best fit. I wanted a more higher end tire so we ordered them up and in a day boom bam! they were there and i came in for the install, The whole thing only took about half a day they are always crazy busy but i work just across the street so who cares! Rarely do I go to a shop because I build my own engines and bikes but Scott is a great guy with a great crew who really, really know their stuff. For one of my projects, I didn't have the special tools to assemble the connecting rods and replace the bushings so I dropped it off at Desmoto. They had to have it sent out but it ended up costing less than if I had bought the tools. I also wanted larger valves install in my 1098 head but they sold me a set of ported 1198 heads from their race bikes for half the price. They are not trying to make a quick buck from you but trying to build a lifetime relationship with you. I highly, highly recommend them. read more

I write this review on behalf of my husband, an avid motorcycle rider who owns a 2012 Ducati Monster 1100 evo, that has needed more servicing than it's been on the road! The motorcycle was due for it's 7k mile service and apparently, that is a big service for the Ducati. Arun looked around for a good place to get it serviced and settled upon Desmoto to do the job for him. The motorcycle had some issues during idling and subsequently, would have misfiring issues that needed correction. Around the same time that he dropped off the motorcycle for service, we were moving houses and due to a family emergency, I had to rush to India. So, the poor husband was left to do a bunch of chores prior and during the move without any help, including driving the car to suburbia and heading back to the city to pick up the motorcycle and ride it back to Dublin. That's when Desmoto stepped in by offering to house the motorcycle for about 2 weeks, without any extra charge. This also gave them ample time to work on it as well, correcting a host of issues that we didn't know existed and doing a fab detail job as well. All the fixings and corrections brought Arun's riding mojo back! The staff was super friendly, well educated and did I say they did a great job? The prices were also super reasonable - way lower than what the stealership quoted. He says he will ride all the way to SF to get his motorcycle serviced in the future. read more

I am the type of guy who likes to work on his own bikes.... that said, i'm not that great of a mechanic. I regularly go to Desmoto to do work that is above and beyond my abilities. I'm on my 3rd Ducati now and have used Desmoto for everything from maintenance, to repair, to sourcing parts i can't find, to asking their advice. I want to start by saying I very rarely write a review. But stopping by Desmoto yesterday warranted a Yelp review. I had just put a new rear tire on my Street Triple R due to a nail in my old tire. Pulling out onto the road right after, the rear immediately slid out from under me and down went the bike. 5 feet into my new tire and I had a crushed exhaust, smashed signal and radiator cowl, and steering that was less than straight. My major concern was the steering since the rest of the issues were just cosmetic and not urgent. I call Desmoto and was told swing by. I got there and they did a quick look over the bike and the forks. First assumption was that the forks just twisted slightly in the triple clamps and it would be a simple fix. Sure enough, 20 minutes later he rolled my bike back out with a the handlebars and wheel pointing in nearly the exact same position. I asked how much i owed and I was told to just be sure to come back for any repairs in the future, "this one is on us". I was blown away at how fast they were able to help. This level of service and all the raving reviews on Yelp have definitely earned them a lifetime customer. read more

I went here based on all the 5 star reviews and a friends recommendation. I brought it in for a tune up since it was running a little rough. It's friendly crew, but even after my tune up it didn't run all that well. Months later I decided to give them one more chance. After bringing my bike in for possible water damage. The bike still ran rough but I thought maybe I just needed to go through a couple tanks of gas. I spend 400 bucks there and walked away with a bike that ran better but only slightly. I wonder if they even test rode it before releasing it to me. It only got worse month after month. I choose to bring it to a shop within walking distance of my house. For about half of what desmoto charged me I was able to get back a motorcycle that has more power, runs smoothly, and it better that the day I bought it. I was tempted to leave two stars since I felt there was something careless about returning a bike to an owner in such lousy condition with the impression that things had been fixed. The friendly atmosphere gives me hope it was something that happened to be an unfortunately rare mishap for them. read more
