I want to preface this review by saying it is based on mostly drinks and some fries. The bartenders were amazing. They made us specialty drinks that were quite delicious. We had some complicated orders but they made it happen. I would be lying if I said the whiskey selection was amazing but there was enough available that I had some pretty good cocktails. I didn't get enjoy anything but the fries and some tenders so I can't really comment on the food. All I can say is the staff is amazing. I plan on visiting the bartender again. read more

I never tried this place in the past because I assumed it was Cajun/New Orleans style quizine, and as someone who doesn't eat pork or shellfish, there's not much I can eat at those restaurants. I was pleasantly surprised that Speakeasy actually has a great menu with pasta, burgers, and more! The hospitality was amazing and it literally felt like eating at a friend's house. I got the chicken parmigiana which rivals the best of them in Little Italy. The sauce was homemade, thick, and delicious. I also tried the curried beef stew at the advice of the waiter and it was also amazing. My family is from the Caribbean and this was legit good curry! Definitely give this place a try!! read more

All good ! The opening comments from the bars staff could have been better when we simply asked "are you serving food"? To come back with "I hope so, otherwise why would we hire someone in the kitchen" was unnecessary. A simple "yes - take a seat anywhere......" would have been more welcoming to people first time visiting the area. Visited Baltimore and my buddy, who's a detective there, took us to this little joint while we waited on the rest of our friends. Ordered the crabcake sandwich and it was delicious. Their beer selections was pretty good too and had a chance to sample a few local brews. Make another visit a day later and the service was still the same: consistently good. Definitely a nice place to chill. Bonus: the upstairs area where you can sit outside and overlook the square. read more

Lady bartender was overwhelmed by 15 to 20 customers (as pf 3/12/2023). A customer with Stage 4 Cancer went ill and need to depart with an Uber. Politely asked bartender after leaving overly generous $30 tip if her bag was moved to the back of the bar while she became ill from her treatment. Lady bartender was constantly rude and dismissive saying she would punch us if we bothered asking her for anything further. I was beyond polite and understanding our stay... but service was also beyond sub-par for anyone that has a pulse. If I want an hour to receive cold food that was neglected to be attained, receive constantly the wrong number and type of beverages, then she is the bartender for you. The establishment however is typically better than that. Everyone has a bad day, but there is zero excuse for not being a kind human being... period. I wanted some Greek/Mediterranean food that was within walking distance. I heard that Speakeasy fit the bill, so I gave it a shot. It was an interesting night. Our server didn't know anything on the menu. When asked for recommendations, how a certain dish was cooked, what a specific item meant, he would tell us he'd ask his boss and come back later to tell us. Finally, he admitted he just got hired... As a result service was slow. It also didn't help that the table next to us was obnoxiously loud (I think a drunk friend was verbally abusing everyone else at his table and eventually got kicked out). Well... I must say that at least my Greek/Mediterranean food craving was satisfied that night after a good 2.5 hours. read more

Nice chill atmosphere , mostly an older crowd, no big deal. The happy hour drinks specials weren't that special BUT the happy hour food special was totally worth it. We ordered a pepperoni "flatbread" .. Just one thinking it was small and to have as a snack but oh dear lord that thing was huge! It's basically a 12 inch pizza! And damn it was really good actually. Not bad. Stopped in for drinks with some friends, and it had a standard bar atmosphere. The bar area was a bit narrow, but we were able to get a few stools and knock back a few. There was a completely desolate upstairs which you only discover when you have to go to the restroom. Overall, this would not be my end all, be all, bmore pub, but I wouldn't mind starting off the night here. read more

Brought us coffee plates for our appetizers, so we could barely even eat on them and it took 40 minutes for the appetizers to come out on a slow Sunday!! There were MAYBE 10 people in the whole restaurant. I mean how long does it take to make bruschetta and fried calamari. The bruschetta was soo dry, I mean how can you mess up bruschetta?? The caesar salad literally had no taste. I ordered the beet salad and it was made wrong. On the menu it said it was beets and feta cheese and it came out with lettuce. When I asked the waitress if it was made right, she rolled her eyes at me and said yes, and that she had a more experienced server make the salad. She quickly told me I was wrong and that it said lettuce on the menu and left (it didn't say it on the menu, we double checked). My friend ordered a beer but she was never given one. And top it alllllll off, my friend found a hair in salad. Needless to say, I will NEVER be coming back and I will NEVER recommend the place. Best part was that my friends were friends of the owner so she assured us special treatment. Can't imagine how they treat other customers. read more

From there, it took close to 15mins for our soup and salad to come out, at which point the lobster bisque, which was actually the best part of my meal, was cold. It would have been pretty good had it been warm. Strike Two. And here's the clincher...the cold bisque was followed by one of the least appetizing crab cakes I've ever had, which is a problem, especially in Baltimore. It's pretty much unforgivable. The meat was low grade and there was too much filler, particularly too heavy on the mayonaise. I'm pretty sure it's the first time I haven't finished a crab cake. Strikes Three through... Folks, let me tell you a story about this place before you go rushing in. This place is owned by two brothers who lived in Greektown, Baltimore for a good proportion of their lives. They opened up restaurant in Greektown at first, and then closed it down recently to open this one up. How do I know this?.... When I was in the restaurant, I was talking to the owner's Greek mother who was serving us. So there you have it, this is a restaurant owned by real Greek Baltimorians!!!!!! Food-wise, I had their Village Salad, so I can't say too much about their food there except the Village Salad tasted like the salad I had from Greece. I guess I have to try something else on their menu next time, but their menu items were sort of overpriced. They do have a balcony at this place. So I can see myself sitting up on the balcony eating with my significant other on a beautiful day. read more

The location is very nice, and they have a surprisingly large amount of seating upstairs as well. We visited with a group, and service was very friendly but rather ineffective. Three people had ordered salads and were missing main ingredients (protein!?). A few people wanted to order wine and just wanted to order a varietal by the glass, but the waitress insisted she'd rather get the wine list than just get "glass of chardonnay" or "glass of merlot". Once we did have the wine list, everybody that attempted to order from it was told sorry, they're out of it, for at least a dozen items. So... house chardonnay by the glass it was. And that was fine! But why insist on the list and then decline everything we try to order from it? Again, quite a friendly waitress. Just not effective. I wanted to order something that didn't require any modifications and had easy timing, since we were a big group, so I got the crabcake sandwich. Not bad, but nothing really great. He wasn't lying. When we were served, the waiter was extremely impolite. Honestly, I don't expect much from a cheap corner joint, but this couldn't even clear that low bar. The waiter rolled his eyes when I asked for a mushroom and Swiss burger. Regardless, he eventually obliged . We were a party of 5. We ordered 1 soup and 1 entree each. The server brought out 4 soups. Good thing he didn't major in Mathematics at the local community college. We also ordered 5 beers. He brought out 4. Math really wasn't his thing. I wasn't really expecting Phd caliber calculation, just 5 beers for 5 patrons. I couldn't have really made it out worse than it actually was. This place is a disaster. When I asked for a second beer, the bartender walked away and started chatting away with his coworkers watching tv. The entree was above average. I honestly really enjoyed it. I think I was too drunk to really remember the details, but there were three adorable dogs (1 chocolate and 2 white labs) sitting outside, my friends were able to mingle and have a great time at the bar and outside at the tables, and it wasn't too packed on a friday night in canton square (surprisingly). Love this place! My boyfriend and I come here a few times every month (and order the same dish each time) but we are never disappointed. The place is usually pretty dead (like all week) so there's always great private seating upstairs and on the balcony. The food is a hodge podge of mostly bad food with a sprinkle of authentic Greek appetizers, which has nothing to do with a speakeasy. What we ate: the crab dip was grease and cheese and .01 ounces of crab. My salad came with a hair in the dressing and they begrudgingly replaced it. My husbands pasta was mush. A friend had the Mediterranean platter which was delicious, especially with the babaganoush on special. Prices were extremely high for the quality. Our crab dip ran us nearly as much as our entrees, and we were nickel and dimed for things like additional pitas and substitutions. If you want to have a good time, sit on the upstairs balcony and order the Greek food. read more

This is a nice little place in the heart of Canton, but I can't really say that the food is anything to write home about. The menu is predominantly Greek and has a lot of options, many of which sound like they'd be great, but are fairly standard in reality. They have a nice balcony though and we sat outside since it was a nice afternoon. The service really wasn't all that great, but our food was okay, albeit somewhat overpriced. I'd probably return for drinks/Happy Hour, but otherwise there are better places to go for traditional Greek food. read more

Stopped here and had a few drinks and some apps when we went out to Canton for Restaurant Week and our reservation wasn't until 9:00. They have an upstairs and downstairs, outdoor seating available for both. However, be advised, there is only one, single stall bathroom. So if you're out on the town, you may have to wait a while. Bar had quick service at about 8:00. Server was very pleasant, apps took quite a while to come out, we almost missed dinner. It didn't strike me as the type of bar that I'd enjoy just going to and sitting around. Dinner options were somewhat nicer than pub grub but not overly fancy. A decent mix, but not my first choice in the Canton square. read more

Speakeasy rates very low for me on food and service, but gets major points for location and atmosphere. It hands down has the best balcony/outdoor seating on the square and the projection screen downstairs makes the patio seating the perfect spot to watch sporting events outdoors. Decent beer selection and relatively fast service. Never too crowded on the weekends either. The food is hit or miss, and the servers know little to nothing about the menu. It's a Greek restaurant, and given that the owner's elderly Greek mother is often in the kitchen, you would expect the food to be outstanding. Unfortunately, it's just OK. I haven't sampled enough to comment on the Greek specialties, but myself and friends of mine have only had non-memorable food experiences. Not bad, but not great either. Ironically, the meatball sub was great, but the cheese dip appetizer, not so much. If you're looking for a great spot to drink beer and people watch on the square, this is your joint. If you're looking for a great Greek meal, head to Greektown instead. read more

Seemed tired, uninterested, bored, socially awkward. Eeek. We ordered appetizers which were pretty good - bruschetta and the crab dip. But good Lord that waiter really drug down the experience. Beer selection was okay, but I expected better. The balcony is AWESOME and definitely deserving of MAYBE another visit. If I get drinks at the bar. And don't have to have a waiter. Speakeasy looks like it's name, and that's what you expect: your friendly neighborhood bar. I must tell you, though, it's a lot more than that. The service is very good and sprinkled with humor and fun. The food is definitely a cut above your average tavern....we enjoyed the salmon dinner, the spanakopita, the crab stuffed mushrooms, and much more, but Mama's bread pudding with vanilla sauce was the crowning glory. I saw other customers with cocktails but rolled with it, and ordered a beer. I asked my girlfriend what she wanted (a blue moon) and he did some exasperated cursing under his breath. I had high hopes for this restaurant because of it's perfect location in the Canton Square in addition to it's amazing upper porch seating. I went there for brunch and was disappointed beyond my beliefs! The steak and eggs was not horrible but I find that hard to really mess up. The "fresh" berry salad consisted of frozen blueberries quite possibly from a can. The meatball sub tasted like it was defrosted and stuck in the microwave for 20 min. This was just the food. The service here was absolutely horrible, usually people want to spend less than 2.5 hours at a brunch without bottomless but the food took forever to come out and it literally took 1 hour to get our $14.75 in change. What are you going to do? I honestly hope the management here realizes what they are doing is not working and change this amazing location into a possibly epic bar/restaurant. read more

What a disaster. HORRIBLE service & mediocre food and drinks. After walking around Canton square we decided the upper balcony looked like a nice place to enjoy some cocktails on a warm spring day. When we first arrived, we were told we had to order dinner in order to sit upstairs, meanwhile the entire restaurant was basically empty. We "negotiated" with the woman by saying we'd share an appetizer. Once we were "allowed" to sit outside, the server took over 20 minutes to even acknowledge our presence. Once our order was taken, it took literally another 23 minutes for our first round of drinks to come. While becoming extremely agitated, one of the managers provided the icing on the cake. She comes over as we are waiting a decade for our drinks, she barks at us to make sure we ordered food. She was DERANGED. In conclusion, this place does not deserve to be in business. There are many other options in Canton Square with excellent food, drinks, and service. read more
