I work for a large company in the valley and Andrew and his team are always our go-to. We use him for decorations and item rental for our holiday parties (200+ people), annual meeting (300+ people), and anything else that we have come up. I once called Andrew (the owner) and asked if there was any way he could deliver 500 filled up baloons to a funeral that we were doing a balloon release at the next day and with no hesitation, he agreed and his team showed up right on time with all of the balloons. The way he runs his business and team is amazing, as he's one of the most efficient people I've ever met. He has been in the business long enough that he can offer up suggestions on your event if you'd like, or he can find a way to do almost anything you need him to do. I would highly recommend using Special Events Alaska for any of your party planning needs. They have never failed us and make me look good, every time. read more

I brought in two large number balloons from two separate packages to have them filled with helium. While filling the first one, the employee told me it might be defective because there seemed to be a small leak, although she couldn't find where it was coming from. She made it sound like it should still hold up until the party later that day, so I left with it. Unfortunately, within just a few hours it was noticeably deflated and looked ridiculous--and the second balloon did the exact same thing. Since these were two completely separate balloons from separate packages, it seems pretty unlikely that both just happened to be defective. I spent about $25 just to have the two balloons filled with helium, only for both to lose their helium before the party. The huge, partially deflated numbers looked miserable in the party decorations, and it was especially disappointing for the birthday child. What bothered me most was that I wasn't offered any solution before leaving, even though it was already known that at least one of the balloons was leaking. I spent more than $45 in the store altogether that day and essentially wasted the money I paid for the helium. Very disappointing experience. Wish I had taken a photo of the miserable balloons but they went straight in the trash following the party ending. What a waste. I'll try Michael's next time for helium, probably cheaper there too. I also noticed how the employee helping me isn't very friendly. I've been in here a few times before over the years and never felt like this. No big wedding or event. I'm just your basic customer who needed a few gag gifts. It's a big store so I asked where one things was located. Now know that the store was empty besides me, and two ladies up front filling balloons. The same lady that checked me out pointed to the aisle that had my requested item. Took a bit to find since they have a lot of things hanging up. I then went back up to ask for another item and was told the location. Three items, an air horn, fake teeth, and some plastic glasses totaled up $25 dollars. Granted it was my choice to purchase them. But it must have been too little for some decent customer service. It would have gone a long way for her to walk me to the item display. Then she slid my purchases with receipt on top to me. No offer of a bag. I asked for one and she acted like My total was not worthy of a bag. Unfortunately they have no competition. Customer service apparently is based on how much you spend. Their focus appears to be on money according to other reviews. Next time I'll go to Fred Meyer's or target for party favors/gag gifts. Someone should really give this competition! read more

Outrageously priced, mediocre product and poor customer service. We had multiple questions about what type of tents we were going to use, we were expecting over 200 guests. After going over the details a few times about different tents and whether to use round or rectangle tables, the clerk informed us that if we had any more questions or wanted anymore advise/help there would be a fee of $89 an hour for her time. $80/hour to discuss their product? We rented tents, chairs, a dance floor, and tables from the place that totaled over $3500. Then a week before the wedding after we had already paid in advance we were told that there would be an extra $600 delivery fee to have everything delivered the night before so that it would be set up and ready come wedding day. We had no choice but to pay the extra $600. Come delivery date we were left with stacks of chairs and tables to set up ourselves, after paying this company $4100, which in the end cost us more than my dress, catering, photographers and the DJ combined. While unstacking the chairs and tables we came across multiple chairs that were broken and multiple chairs that had frosting and cake all over them that we had to clean. We also had a large chip in the dance floor and holes in our tent that kept dripping water on our guests. The only reason that I give this company more than 0 stars is because their delivery guys were very friendly, attentive, and considerate. Other than that we had a horrible unaccommodating experience with them and would never use them again or recommend them to anyone. read more

I think that this party store has a better selection than you can find anywhere else... that's about the only good thing and is the only reason why I gave them 2 stars. They would receive no stars if it wasn't for this because of their policies. I signed a contract for some chairs for my wedding in Girdwood which is an 1 1/2 hour drive TOPS from Wasilla so I was already aware that there would be a significant delivery charge for that. Here is the thing, the chairs were DUMPED on the side of our venue. They charged me $570 for delivery of the chairs and when I asked the clerk if that included set up they said it was indeed. This price was still pretty crazy to have 105 chairs delievered and set up but sometimes you just have to give as I was trying to hurry up and at least hold the chairs. A couple of months before the wedding one of my friends recommended I get a UHAUL and pick up the chairs myself because in the end it comes out cheaper. So I called special events and asked if I could do this (I rented the dark colored chivari chairs), the clerk stated that I was only allowed to transport the chairs myself if they were the folding chairs or if they were the white chiavari chairs. WHAT???? How does this even make sense???? So I am allowed to transport my own WHITE COLORED CHIAVARI CHAIRS but I cannot transport dark colored ones? I even questioned this and asked to speak to the supervisor. The clerk called me back and basically said the supervisor agreed with the clerk. So apparently the supervisor was too lazy to return my call. I then stated that I wanted to cancel my order as this was never explained to me and I never would have agreed to this if I would've known that there were absolutely no other delivery options. $570 is just TOO much money to deliver chairs from Wasilla and delivered to Girdwood and then for the pick up and return. I was then told that I signed a contract stating that I could not have this refunded 100% unless I cancelled it 120 days in advance!!!! 120 days in advance!!!! Let that sink in. Companies usually say 30 days, which is completely understandble but 4 months in advance? You are at this point ripping your customers off in the event that something happens. Stupid me for not reading the fine print! The clerk then reassured me that the $570 delivery and set up estimate was JUST AN ESTIMATE and that I would not actually be charged that much. This was a LIE! They never reimbursed me anything! I actually even got a phone call from the venue of my wedding in which they told me that Special Events was pissed that I didn't have the chairs stacked and ready by the road. Um, what? They told me that the chairs would not be picked up until Monday and my wedding was on a Saturday. Please explain to me why in the world I would leave chairs uncovered out by a road for someone to come by and take them? They obviously wanted their chairs damaged and/or stolen so that they could charge me more money for that. And by the way, the chairs were stacked under a covered tarp 100 feet back from the road. Sounds like the delivery drivers are also lazy! So you're welcome Special Events. And just for this I was charged for what they said they would charge me in the beginning. So if they tell you it's just an estimate then their lying. So my advice to anyone out there who is considering using this company, BE CAREFUL OF THE FINE PRINT ON THEIR CONTRACT AND IF THEY SAY IT'S AN ESTIMATE, BE READY TO BE CHARGED THAT EXACT AMOUNT! read more

I walked into the store on a Friday morning, not really knowing what I needed, other than to talk with a clerk to get some ideas. I was greeted with a smile and a hello and immediately assisted by Anna. I explained what I was thinking about for my wedding and she was very patient with me, going over each item, letting me know if it was in stock or had to be ordered, and answered all of my questions fully. She even gave me some great decorating ideas and floral recommendations (a bonus!). She worked up a quote, explained the details of the contract if I decided to go with their company, and I left feeling like I made some headway in my planning. The prices on the items I need are very reasonable. It will be a little inconvenient to travel to Wasilla to transport the items to Anchorage and back again; however, well worth the headache saved in other areas. Visited from out of state for a celebration that Special Events provided service for. It was a gorgeous setup and the staff did an amazing job all while providing excellent customer service. Before I departed from the area, I made a stop at their store location and was amazed at the variety of products that they had. I 100% recommend them for any event you are having. This is the best party supply store!! I moved to wasilla about a year and a half ago, since that time this store is my main "party store." I have bought ribbon in bulk to use for any occasion. It is cheap, and I think the rolls are about 500 feet each. I have not run out of a single color yet. I have thrown many a party. "4th birthday, thomas the train theme" 60th birthday party, lots of bright colors & gag gifts" 90th birthday party with lots of colorful decorations" " a 30th birthday for a man with "caution" tape & other "30" decorations" "a 5th birthday with mighty machines as the theme." "A ladies 30th birthday with a tropical, hawaiian theme." Plus add in decorations and goodies for halloween, school parties, christmas, easter, Super Bowl, new years..... This business has great customer service. They are outgoing, creative, and willing to help. They also have supplies for bachelor/ bachelorette, wedding, baby..... the list could go forever!! Plus, their new location is easy to get to, and very spacious! read more
