Make-A-Wish New Jersey - So pretty at night

    Make-A-Wish New Jersey

A truly spectacular place, one which exudes a magical presence as you enter its doors…read more I was here for a volunteer event and I was taken away by the castle and everything it tries to achieve. This gave me a different perspective on life and rectified my faded optimism in people. Opened in 2011, this Make A Wish chapter moved from a rather plain looking small office space in Union, Nj. The land in Monroe Township was donated by a local developer (14 acres). In addition, there was a separate donation of $3 million by an individual to fund the building of this project. The castle, both interior and exterior, reminds me of being in Disney, starting with the design and shape of the castle to the Disney-like colorful chairs. The original proposed designs by the staff were scrapped as Disney Imagineers stepped in to help with the project. The wishing rooms, team room and enchanted forest-themed common space is Disney-style at its finest. There is a beautiful, spacious courtyard in the back with a fountain and Adirondack chairs that gives the place a serene tranquility. The Make A Wish foundation does not receive any government funding because they are not a medical establishment. Instead, it is wholly supported by individuals and corporations. They grant kids with a critical illness one wish. I did not know this but the kids, although critically ill, do not need to be terminal to qualify. Wishes range from meeting celebrities (you tubers included) to travel to providing gifts to other sick kids in a hospital. You leave here feeling great about your small contribution to society but it's bittersweet.

My Partner was sexually harassed twice, one person was saying if that my didn't have sex or didn't give any oral sex for protection, there was no way that the both of us wouldn't be protected. And the other person was threatening her because of her sexuality. Like it's ridiculous that they allow just about anyone in the shelter and let anyone just stay there and say these things to anyone. We both felt threatend.

The Rescue Mission has been a shelter for the homeless of the Trenton area since 1915. It's…read moreapproach to this charity is to put every man to work to help offset the cost of operations. The Board of Directors realized a long time ago that Evangelical Christian generosity had to be combined with work and revenue production in order to survive the hardships and financial strain that historic events like the Crash of 1929 would bring to the community. The approach has allowed this pillar of giving to house more than 12,000 men in 1931 by having them cut wood for sale, work in industrial salvage in the many factories of heavily industrialized Trenton, and to help run a store selling used clothing, furniture and appliances. I bring my old clothes here every year, and have even been rewarded by seeing a man on the street wearing one of my suits. I hope he got the job. When I have furniture to get out of my home or office, I call the Rescue Mission to come pick it up in one of their trucks. They will even take an old car that still works. I had the good fortune of working on the same street as the RM early in my legal career at the Legal Aid Society. I saw firsthand the large number of people who relied on it to survive. Too, several of these people became my clients when denied benefits, or in need of help in dealing with landlords, employers or other legal problems. It was rich and rewarding work. Please consider giving your recyclable clothing, housewares, and donations to the Rescue Mission. After more than 110 years, you know they are doing something very right. Helping those who help others is a blessing, mitzvah, and great feeling.

They often have appliances in addition to lots of furniture, clothes, toys, and household goods. They have a lot of brand new things! I got two fantastic lamps new in the box for $10! They have great deals on paint for your house or crafting. I got a nice size jar of craft paint for under $20! I was surprised by the fantastic color choices too! They had new winter coats for $10 but only in a size medium. You just never know what you will find there! They always have new items at the end caps by the register or you can ask where more are. I also joined their fb page. They post brand new inventory photos when they get large shipments! Fantastic for buying for yourself or reselling! We are lucky to have this location. There are others as well. You just never know what you'll find.

I really love looking at tchotchkes…read more Of course if you wanna look through their selection of cds, books, records and Christmas ornaments ... they have lots!! It looks like a lot of people have been donating furniture. They have a lot of space displaying that. I digress. I like tchotchkes/ Knicknacks. And I like keeping my eyes peeled for little vases that way I can give them out as gifts if somebody's not feeling good or if they're feeling good and just need a little surprise. I was happy to see a Patrick Nagel picture here. ((It's very nostalgic for 80s lovers like me!! )
