This review is of their annual open house where they've opened their doors to the public. This event takes place over one weekend per year! For this event you will be directed to a church parking lot about a mile down the road. Cost is a $15 donation paid at the parking lot via cash or Venmo. Shuttle buses run back and forth to the center. When I arrived there was live musicThis is a very family friendly event! Lots of activities and educational experiences for children and adults. The animal handlers were all over the property providing up close encounters with various animals and providing so much information on each resident and ambassador animals. Outdoor enclosures built by community members house foxes, owls, birds, raccoons, and squirrels. Each enclosure is labeled with species information and details on why the animal is living at the center. There are exhibits indoors for reptiles and small animals going through medical care. Some of the animals onsite will be rehabilitated and released while others will be life long residents for their own safety. The staff and volunteers were all fantastic and had so much knowledge to share. One of my favorite things to watch was the care takers showing children how they feed and medicate insured animals. Each child could use a "stuffy" to practice syringe feeding and other routine care. Children were given a paper to collect stamps at each experience. Once all stamps were collected they could select a prize. Penn Wildlife was also onsite along with other local organizations giving out some great swag along with educational and informative materials. There was a snack bar available. Bathrooms were ports potty's.

Did some research on google and took it to the AARK and they took the baby bird in right away. My husband and I just filled out a piece of paper and then the employees at the AARK took care of Lucky. We named the bird Lucky because it was behind our broom and we would never have saw it, if it wasnt for my husband finding it. When we arrived we were immediately approached and asked if we had an animal. I am so happy that this place was able to take the baby bird. Staff was great and all were super friendly.

This wonderful shop was such a huge surprise!  We found it a little difficult to locate, but thank…read moregoodness for Waze.  There was plenty of parking and some larger items were for sale outside the store (a vintage rocking horse, in great condition and for an amazing price, a couple of awesome looking patio chairs).  Seasonal decor, books, games, small pieces of furniture, cool knick knacks, candles, and in the rear of the store were racks of clothes, accessories, pillows.   The prices were fantastic ~ a few times I had to blink and look again to be sure.   And with the addition of small, fuzzy, adorable animals  up for adoption (birds, guinea pigs today!), this was one the best thrift stores I have ever been to.  Senior Citizen discounts are applicable on Fridays and all proceeds go to the Last Chance Ranch Rescue.

Pearl S. Buck was an American author who was incredibly popular in her time (although now many of…read moreher books are out of print). She was the first American woman author to win a Nobel Prize for Literature and the only woman to win both a Pulitzer and a Nobel for many years (until Toni Morrison many years later). Born to missionary parents, she spent her formative years in China, and many of her works focused on Chinese history and peasant culture. She was also a great humanitarian and founded several organizations intended to aid children, including foster homes and adoption centers for Asian and biracial children, who American adoption agencies at the time refused to serve. I learned all this and much more on my tour of the Pearl S. Buck Home this week. The home is about an hour outside Philadelphia, but very close to Doylestown (making it a great addition to a day or weekend trip to the area, since Doylestown has so much to offer). I went on a Friday, when I had a day off work. On the 11am tour, it was just me and two other guests, making it an almost private tour. Our tour was almost two hours (I think it's meant to be an hour and a half but we had a lot of questions!), and our tour guide was wonderful. I learned so much about Pearl, her work, her family, and her legacy as we explored the house (Pearl's bedroom, the room where she wrote, her children's room, the kitchen, etc.). Whether you're a dedicated fan of Pearl S. Buck, read The Good Earth in high school but haven't thought about Pearl S. Buck since, or whether you don't know a thing about her, this tour is a great way to learn a lot about an amazing woman, who spent the first half of her life in China and the second half in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

We have…read moreadopted a few dogs off this location and the one thing I noticed with the animals adopted here all had personality flaws. They all were anti-social and needed a load of attention that we assumed that their previous owners just were mean to them. The three we got here, only one relaxed and found out we weren't like their 1st owners but the other two were not violent but they were not good family dogs but those are the chances you take in rescuing an animal. It was not the SPCA's fault they were that way but many would blame the shelter and that is not right. But what in the world is right today??

However, they use your compassion for animals to get you to do more work than necessary. I asked and made it clear I did not want to engage in a disciplinary meeting at that point in time about shallow, petty, and pedantic procedures I had shortcomings on, while other people make bigger mistakes and not one word is said to them. NOT ONE WORD. They knew my mother was making my life extra-stressful. I gave them all the details. They. Do. Not. Care. "No means no" - until a man says it. Men are not valued at this job and hold minimal if not nonexistent postitions of authority or management. The majority of the staff is female. Men hold ZERO positions of any kind of authority or influence. The management is mean at best and downright sadistic and psychologically predatory at worst while mixing in some "Mean Girls" high school drama. You want to take out your life's frustrations on your subordinates because your genetics are faulty? Get out. I had nothing to do with your failings. I am not the first and I sure as sugar won't be the last. Enjoy your high turn-over rate. Maybe if you didn't fire people for expressing their opinion then the turn-over rate would be nominal. Imagine that. You let me down. You let me down so low and I needed your support. I asked for you to not fight the unemployment but here we are omitting facts to protect your sorry bum. The decision was made before I touched the door and you know that. It was an accident and the door was broken in the same manner previously. You have a repair-man on payroll. Its a non-issue, stop lying to yourself and the state to play victim. That protective custody dog got attacked by another dog while under your protection. That dog that attacked got put down for it. It makes me wonder if you did the right thing or if you omitted facts like you did with me?
