    Bin sorting collection
    Nichole G.

I recently stopped by the Special Waste Collection Center, and it's one of those places that makes getting rid of hard-to-dispose items surprisingly easy. The process is very straightforward. When you pull up, all you need to do is show your driver's license and the staff will direct you where to go. They'll take electronics, and if you have items like cardboard or large appliances, those can go into the big blue bins located around the corner. It's really convenient having one place where you can handle multiple types of recycling and disposal without running all over town. One of my favorite features here is the reuse center. It's a great concept--items that are still usable can be dropped off so others can use them instead of everything going straight to waste. It's a small thing that makes a big difference environmentally. Another really helpful service is that they accept sealed sharps containers. If you bring one in, they'll take it as long as it's properly sealed, and if you need a new one while you're there, they usually have replacements available in two different sizes. Helpful tip: Make sure your sharps container is fully sealed before bringing it in, and bring your driver's license since they check it when you arrive. For anyone dealing with electronics, cardboard, appliances, or medical sharps, it's honestly nice having a single, organized place that handles it all. It makes responsible disposal a lot easier.

First time to special waste collection center. We have some old sample paint from our house which we need to dispose (opened more than a year old). The process is very easy. Pack everything you need and leave at easy access of your car. Wait in the line (super quick). They will scan your ID and ask what you have for disposal. Stay in the car. They will open the door / trunk and pick it up by hand in person. No need to leave the vehicle at all. Handy if you have the items already in a box / bag so they can just grab it! Staff is friendly too! Thank you so much for having the place open on weekend!

I love this place & think it's just a great way of keeping our communities clean & safe. It's so clean & organized from the minute you drive in. A million signs everywhere telling you where to go for whatever you need, signs saying what they don't accept, signs informing you of what you can pick up. You drive in & the staff will ask you for your ID because this is for Elk Grove residence only. They will get whatever you want to drop off. There's a re-use room that has everything you could need for home improvements like paint, weed killer, primer, cleaning products etc. everything is free.

Easy drop off for what you can't put in home cans (old car oil & filters, e waste, old paint, etc). Also a re use room available to check out 'surrendered' old paint, cleansers, etc). On this visit, hubby was delighted to find a large sprayer, stains for fences. Well I call the trip good as more stuff 'surrendered' than picked up. The process: drive up check in, drive to actual donation containers that are sorted by material type) and place items accordingly and that's it. Simple.

Such a cool concept with the organic waste containers.. I wish we had this in my city.. lol.. Now I can put the coffee grinds to use.. It really is beneficial, especially having the vegan son who makes fresh smoothies twice a day, let alone all the vegetable scraps.

Recycling old paint. Can only drop 15 gallons at a time, must have valid ID.

I had old paint in my garage that was likely from long before I purchased my home in 2015. I took it to the Special Waste Collection Center. The biz is open Sunday through Wednesday 9-4, closed Thursday through Saturday. There is a limit of 15 gallons per drop off and if you have more, you cam make additional drop offs 3-4 hours later or the next day. I believe this is to stop any commercial drop offs by contractors. This service is free to residents, there is no annual limit. You must bring a valid driver's license or ID card, it will be scanned. The employees are practicing social distancing, wear masks, gloves etc. Be respectful of them. You must stay in your vehicle. Polite employees, very clean facility, quick service, no waiting and conveniently located near 99 at Grant Line, turn right just before the AM PM station.

There are at least two lines going into the joint, so follow the person in front of you and tell the lady what you are getting rid of. The first person writing our ticket didnt understand that we just wanted to dump the couch and charged us to dump the whole pick up truck bed , which I think was $11 dollars. When we went to pay the lady I thought maybe the online price was just outdated but once she confirmed it was just the couch, she refunded the addt money without us even asking or inquiring. Awesome! We followed the signs to the dump part of this site- there are MANY different parts to this dump so try to follow the right color sign of where you are trying to go! And if you are going, take a truck if you can. While my Sentra would have probably been okay, I wouldn't want to risk it (lol!) Back up the truck and toss all your items out right into the big mess where everyone else is dumping and HOLD YOUR NOSE if you can and wear washable shoes! I had 5 big sacks of recycles and have to wait for an open parking spot to back up my car because there's no way I'm going to lug them around from the side of the street where I found parking. Anyway, besides the point, I got into an open spot, grabbed empty bins and starts putting in my cans. The guy also then started weighing and emptying them into those large sacks hanging from the side of the container door. Aside from my big loads, the process was actually very quick and I was out of there in no time. I actually got a good amount of money from all my recycles and I can't complain about that. Also, don't expect to get any help unloading your sacks and getting it emptied into the bins because this is a do it yourself place (even the old lady in front of me managed to do it herself). There's no VIP service up in here y'all. This place is literally nestled right next to the gas station store and if you're not familiar with it, you'll miss it.
