Told me where to meet and gave me a few tips about the lake. We really enjoyed the Emerald Bay and Rubicon Point. Emerald Bay had a cool island with a fort at the top and the girls loved jumping off the small cliff into the lake. Rubicon had amazing blue waters that were crystal clear to the bottom and great for swimming. The boat was not perfect shape but was perfect for our party and what we wanted to do. A must do! We had a blast renting the pontoon boat from Shan. We loved it so much that we booked a second reservation during our same vacation! Some people from my group were running late and he adjusted our start time so we still got the full four hours on the water, no questions asked. For an extra $100 we could add another hour, which we did. It was great working with Shan, everything was handled over text and Venmo, which was super easy. He even helped carry our cooler and all our random stuff on the boat. Once we settled in, he gave a quick demo of how to drive the boat, which ended up being really easy/straightforward. We were able to navigate it on our own just fine. We took his suggestions on where to go and we were off! You have a ton of freedom and can basically go anywhere you want. We opted for Emerald Bay and on our second trip we went to D. L. Bliss. Both places were stunning! We had so much fun that we accidentally left our GoPro onboard and Shan was so awesome that he met us the next day to bring it to us. I doubt you'll find better customer service or prices from other companies in Tahoe! Where to begin... how about our first phone call to Shan? So professional, reassuring, knowledgeable, and I stopped looking for a rental after talking to him. This was Cassandra's 21st birthday, and she planned the whole thing herself! We met the crew at the launch location and when they saw that we had a family member who used a walker, they jumped right in and helped us get her and our things on to the boat. Friendly, funny, professional... great crew. The pontoon boat we were on looked almost new and was impeccably maintained. The boat performed so well that Kaylie (12) could drive it with no worries (she loved it, too). If you have ever thought of doing this... then do it, because you will not regret it. My family and I closed out our summer with a bang by renting a boat for the day during Labor Day Weekend. I began calling the big names around South Shore more than a week before the big weekend. I quickly found out I still calling too late. I began digging deep into Yelp calling every number that I could find. When I called Specialty Boat Rentals, Shan the owner, answered the phone cheerfully and professionally. I was hopeful just on that. I explained that I needed a large boat to seat at least 9 and it would be for either Saturday or Sunday. He asked if he could text me at my number after looking at his rentals. I of course said yes and kept hunting for a boat while he looked. Shan texted me in about five minutes stating he had an opening for Saturday but it needed to be secured by deposit or it may not be available soon. I jumped on it and within 10 minutes, we were set! Shan gave instructions where to meet and what time for our big day. He encouraged us to bring a boom box, coolers, and even a fun raft to pull the little ones on. When we arrived to the dock, Shan pulled into the dock soon after with a wonderful pontoon boat. We boarded and he gave instructions about the boat and how to navigate it. After some quick paper work, he pushed us off and away we went. We rented the boat for the entire day and per Shan's suggestion we first went to Emerald Bay. Shan noted it would be packed and crazy by noon due to the holiday weekend so off we went. It took about 20 minutes to pull into the bay and the boats were already pilling up as early as 10:30! We took a quick dip into the lake to swim to Tea Island and hike to the top while my father stayed back to keep the pontoon away from the rocks. After our quick adventure, we pulled into shore, or should I say squeezed in, and anchored away. We enjoyed a swim, a venture to the castle, and lunch on the boat before leaving after noon. Man, when we left, Shan was right, the bay was slammed with boats. We took the boat up the west coast and anchored in two different spots enjoying the beach and water through the rest of the day. We left about an hour prior to return time and cut through the choppy waves the best we could without getting too wet. When we arrived near shore, Shan called and gave us instructions to meet him near the dock to allow him to hop on from another pontoon. When he did, he guided us back to the dock and we disembarked. The entire experience was amazing. Shan provided a clean, fun, well working, spacious boat for our day. There was absolutely no stress or burdens placed on us by Shan. His go-lucky, laid back spirit made a huge difference in our day. We respected his boat and happily played within the guidelines he set. The price was incredibly inexpensive when compared to the rest of the places I had called. Remember, this was Labor Day Weekend. Shan could have easily asked for more but he didn't. Without a doubt, I will only rent from Shan here on out when we return to Tahoe. Thank you, Shan, for making our day a memorable one! read more
