I'm from California so we have plenty of options for Middle Eastern Markets but I was in Utah and wanted to visit a Middle Eastern Market, and I was beyond impressed with their customer service, selection and prices... Their prices are so good I'm stocking up on some items that I'm bringing back to Southern California with me!!! If you're in the area, it's a market you have to at least visit once and I'm sure you'll be back since they have so many different options for everybody.

Update! This little market expanded about 3 months ago and now it's HUGE! Specialty Market is an absolute culinary wonderland. They've got a huge selection of fresh flat breads, fresh produce, an entire wall of every spice and blend you've never been able to find. They've got huge jars of gorgeous olives, fresh herbs, mango nectar, goat cheese, tea, coffee, specialty pastas and vermicelli - I have fallen in love all over again - but this time much harder. And two words. OUD. PERFUME. Even if you're not feeling Middle Eastern cuisine for dinner tonight, anyone who appreciates a good perfume or cologne will swoon at the the tantalizing selection of rich, oudy scents available here. They're unlike any western perfume you've ever smelled. Also - here's a tip for all my pomegranate lovers out there: this market has pomegranates longer than the grocery stores, and they're about twice the size. Another tip: Yogurt. If you like plain Greek yogurt for anything, breakfast, cooking, smoothies, etc. - get it here. They sell it in large tubs and it tastes better than any Greek supermarket brand. Last tip: Don't waste your time with tiny bricks of overpriced supermarket lamb. Get your lamb here, ground, bone in, boneless. It's far better and it's half the price.

I used to buy Halal sausage and I definitely endorse the taste and variety of sausage that they are selling.

And after the shooting four years ago, security seems to have increased, so I don't feel as nervous going there as I otherwise would. But there's a lot of bad. The store is badly organized with inadequate signage. I usually leave without multiple items on my list, and they're usually pretty normal items, too. Case in point: a few weeks ago, I had pretzels on my shopping list and had to give up after looking in the candy/chips/snacks aisle and the peanut butter/cereal/granola aisle AND the bakery AND walking around the whole store three or four times. More than one cashier has asked an invasive question or made an uncomfortable comment (although, to be fair, this isn't unique to WinCo. Grocery store personnel in general seem to be going through an interesting phase). Either way, I try to go through the self-checkout aisle as much as possible to avoid the staff.

I've always had confidence that they would provide at least close to what I could do in terms of quality. The last two things I purchased were absolutely not good. A couple of weekends ago k purchased the potato salad. It really was awful. No one ate it. Yesterday I picked up a custom birthday cake and it was nothing more than a bit of cake with mounds of icing. A couple people sampled it and the rest was thrown away. Not sure if it's just this location or if Harmon's has declined. Sorry for the review but I felt it was needed. Andrea

So I have to get these into our local businesses and help this amazing economy we have in utah!!!! candle company out of they as one of the stockists or "retailers". Love this Harmons!!! Their hot bar is the best in the west. Perfect for lunch during the week. Yummmm I'm going to go now ... craving their homemade AMAZING soups!

Bottom line is that these places that cater to thousands of customers a day will have a proportionate large number of complaints. But that will not stop people from still shopping there. Such is the case for this Smith's. This location is clean, well stocked, and has nice employees. I don't know what else you would look for in a grocery store. The high end would be Harmon's, low end would be Ream's. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Stay away at all costs!

HIDDEN GEM! This…read morelittle market is packed with all kinds of goodies. My favorite part was the large selection of fresh and marinated meats, they've got cuts you can't find in a chain grocery store. It's all displayed behind a case, you ask the butcher to weigh the amount you're looking for, then it's bagged and tied up. I got a pound of the marinated flap steak to grill for tacos - it's absolutely amazing! The produce section is a bit limited, but there is plenty of what is needed for Mexican and Central American cuisine; Roma tomatoes, aloe vera, cilantro, radishes, peppers, limes, green onions, yellow and white onions, key limes, etc. Every lime I touched was the perfect ripeness, a very different experience than most other stores' citrus selections. There were many different sizes of corn and flour tortillas, some were crispy, some were made from blue corn, big bags, small bags. I loved the drink selection here of Mexican beers, aloe drinks, yogurt and fruit drinks, etc. There are a few aisles of dry and canned goods, pastas, beans, cooking oils, chips, masa, lots of Mexican sweets, shampoo, household cleaning items. I noticed this market has an awesome hot sauce and spice selection right next to the meat counter, you could probably read bottles for 30 minutes and still have more to see. I found some excellent freshly made unlabeled salsa in a fridge by the check out (very tasty, very spicy!), some baked goods, and a selection of tortilla presses and other cooking implements by the entrance. The staff is very friendly and speaks mostly Spanish, but language wasn't a barrier at all, I got everything I needed here! In love and I'll be back! Tips: * park in the parking lot in the back of the building and enter through that door, there is no access from Main Street * don't forget the quesa fresca!
