I am, myself, an Arab American and he always treats me well. That said, some of the "quirks" of his personality COULD understandably lead people to leave with a bad impression. Let me explain. The first time I went approached his store, the door was closed and locked. But the owner was inside and saw us outside the door. He opened and asked if we (my mom and I) had an appointment. I said no and he told me he only opens for people with appointments. His voice was a gruff and I was initially turned off. I started to leave and he interjected and asked if I wanted to make an appointment. My first instinct was to say no. But at the last moment I relented and said yes instead. A slight grin crept up his face and he said he had an appointment for right then. At that point he opened the door and let us in. I think he likes to play the curmudgeon sometimes. But after that first experience, he was always warm and friendly. He even remembered at later visits that I had been in before. As for the assertion that he was racist, particularly towards people of Asian descent, I just have not seen that from him. Quite the contrary, I was in the shop once with a friend from Thailand who lives here in Albuquerque. The owner greeted us both with a friendly hello and let us in. He even pointed out some antiques from SE Asia for my friend to see. He was friendly and conversational with my friend as they discussed the origin and cultural history of the items. Obviously, I haven't seen the owner's interactions with every customer. And I wouldn't want to support a business owned by someone who discriminates or acts hatefully. So I want to be clear - I could be wrong. I just wonder if perhaps he was doing his "curmudgeon act" and it was misinterpreted. I'll be back to shop until I see something more definitive than a few vague yelp reviews. Accusing someone of racism is no small allegation and I hope the people who've made it here are absolutely certain that that is what they experienced and not a older person who sometimes likes to play the grumpy old man.

We are antique hounds, have lived in ABQ for over a decade and just stumbled on this store last weekend. Please go visit this store immediately. The owner is a treasure and has apparently been selling out of this space for over 20 years. He has a wealth of stories for all of the items he has packed into the several large rooms in his store. Very authentic, with an emphasis on traditional Mexican arts. Loved the entire experience... and will definitely not wait another ten years to come back.

This awesome find, on the north end of the intersection of Menaul and Washington, is on the higher end of thrifty treasures. I was confronted with a notice at the door that the place was "temporarily" cash only, due to an EBT issue. I saw the same note when I arrived two weeks later. Look, most locally owned businesses are all too aware of the scandalous credit industry, and many simply don't do plastic, don't blame 'em. I'm guessing these guys are pissed at the industry, to boot. Anyway, even if you're not carrying greenbacks, walk on in. It's worth more than a gander. Virtually everything is priced on the higher end of thrift, but a quick chat with the owners will reveal that this is more of a pristine yard sale. They're open to hear your best offer. The furniture is high quality, generally good to great condition, with plenty of so-called antique offerings (tables, hutches, etc.). Great used kids clothes and stuffed animal selection, beautiful housewares, unique home office items, solid kitchen stuff. The place has been around for a while, I'm surprised I'm the first to Yelp it, but hey, here's to Yesterday's Best being around tomorrow.

Unfortunately those items were marked in the thousands of dollars range. There were also reasonably priced items and even some good deals, but some of the items had extremely high prices. The store had a small selection compared to other thrift stores on the same road, but it definitely was unique. If you like vintage pieces, this store might be for you. Personally, I am more of a thrift store person than an antique store person, so I probably won't be back.

They have a toy section, run by Larry, the Toy Guy, with so many toys that brings back many memories. There are lots of china, old lace, and household bric a brac. Some is wonderful old furniture too. The owner's Roxanne and Gaylord Campbell are very knowledgeable and can help you find what you are looking for. Pam, their assistant, is equally just as charming and helpful. There is plenty of off street parking. I could spend hours here just browsing and finding the right treasures.

What a nightmare experience dealing with the " new" Bed bath and beyond. My elderly mother…read morepurchased a $50 gift card for me for Christmas a few years back. I tried using it today and was told that it wasn't in their system and was no longer available. After close to an hour of calling and being hung up on multiple times I was able to get through on text only to be told that the company would not honor previously purchased gift cards. ( there was no expiration date on this card) They only know how to parrot the same information over and over without having the decency or good business practice to honor the $50 or even a higher value coupon. This whole experience has been incredibly frustrating then to top it off they offered a 20% coupon as a complete insult as I already had a 25% coupon that was widely available to anyone. They are failing to honor a valid debt. The new company ( Beyond, Inc) is continuing to use the Bed Bath and Beyond name and branding to attract customers while simultaneously disavowing its financial obligations to them. I used to be a very loyal customer of theirs but going forward will never buy from Bed Bath and Beyond or from the "new" owner Overstock or from the "new" Beyond. I encourage you to do the same.

I was amused that this thrift shop sits right next to a massage parlor. Inside it's fairly cramped and half the shop is quite disorganized. It's like following a deer path through lots of old junk that is way overpriced. Probably the only good thing was that there was very little in the way of clothing and lots in the way of everything else. Unless you're actually in the area, I'd scratch this place off your list. At least there's some photos to help you decide either way.
