This review is about the 911 Main St. KCMO location. (IF YOU ARE THINKING OF PUTTING YOUR KID HERE, I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU READ THIS REVIEW FIRST.‼) 1.im going to start with Director Michelle. She might seem sweet at a tour of you choose to get one, but just know it's fake. Know that before you got there, she told her teachers to remember the parents can see and hear you. (I just question why she feels the need to say this. If you have a trustworthy staff that you are confident in, you wouldn't need to say such a thing!!) 2. Avoid this place at all cost if you have an infant/toddler. There are infant teachers who will talk to the babies (0-12months) as if they are functioning adults. Raising voices at them and getting actually upset with these babies because they "already told them not to do that" as if the baby has any idea at all. Not only this, but all of the teachers who work in the nursery's are pretty rough with the babies when moving them around (this does not include Fanta or Anna, they are very kind individuals). They seem to think of these children as OBJECTS and not A PERSON. 3. The admin team, mainly Michelle and Tonya, are not fit for there jobs at all. If you think your kid is being taken care of well, it is probably because they are feeding you LIES so they can make money. I heard from employees that they have asked employees to lie to parents about their child's fever.. fevers can quickly escalate in small children. They could have been the cause of seizures or hospital visits with that kind of reckless behavior. Let that sink in, it could be your kid next. 4. If you are hired here for employment, expect to be judged the second you walk in. if they decide they don't like you, expect your life to be hell for months and always feel hated. They won't change their mind ether, no matter how nice you are to them. My mental health declined severely while being here. 5. Within the past 3 months, a toddler teacher dislocated a child's arm because she picked them up by their arms at just 1 year old. I have witnessed the same teacher yell in a toddlers ear as a form of "payback" saying "yea you don't like it do you?? You did it to me first" (remember this lady is over 21 and the child is a year old..) (also admin love her!!)..... she still works there... and if you think that's bad, her lead teacher is even worse. It's very clear that she hates her job, she is so mean to those toddlers. Yelling constantly. And no respect for the children.. 6. The last thing I want to speak on is children with behavioral issues/ disabilities. These teachers at this daycare WILL be mean to your child and label them as a "bad kid" if they are unable to communicate like the rest of the kids/are unable to understand as well as other children. I've seen it. Don't take the risk, it is truly NOT worth it. With all of that being said, these are some of the horrendous things that I became aware of about this so-called "daycare". there are better daycares out there, don't risk your child's mental and physical well-being by sending them here. I really cannot say enough great things about this daycare. There is a constant open line of communication and I can honestly say my child is THRIVING. Each week I notice a difference in behavior and my only regret is that he goes 3 days a week. read more

This is in response to Michelle Mannell for kicking my son out of Downtown Spectrum Daycare located 911 Main Street, KCMO 64105, he is only 3 years old - how does that even happen? The way they handled us, and my son was very unprofessional, passive aggressive, and unfair. He was asked to leave because he is non-verbal, I do believe that this falls under some type of discrimination. The entire time we have been there we have not been notified by the daycare that my son was having a hard time conforming to the daycare standards, not one phone, not one conference, not any communication at all. When he turned 3 and they kept him in the 2-year-old room - did not let us know why? They gave us two-week's notice to find a new daycare (unacceptable). I asked for a little more time and help, I was told NO. This daycare is not for anyone with a child who is developing slowly, strong-willed, or who colors outside the lines. This daycare is a cattle shuffler, they just want to move kids around. They will not take the time to get to know your child one on one or to see how your child is developing. All they care about is check marking the appropriate boxes. If your kid is developing at the standard rate of development for their age group, then this is the place for you. 1.) They never attempted to move him up to the 3-year-old room due to him being non-verbal, they will say it is due to him not being potty trained - that is not true, he is potty trained. 2.) Again, he is potty trained; they will say he is not - I pick him up in the same cloths I drop him off in every day - how is he not potty trained? 3.) The incident reports just started about 2 months ago - even with the reports we never were talked to from the staff or teachers that they were having a hard time with him - the reports magically stopped when they kick my son out - according to them the problem child is gone, no need to document anymore. (update on this I received 3 incidents reports yesterday 7/18/2019 - 2 for biting and 1 for hitting - NO PHONE CALL WAS MADE - NO COMMUNICATION.) 4.) The ONLY conference we had - was to tell us they were kicking him out of daycare, a 3-year-old. 5.) Not once were we talked to about how to help him at home or how they could try different ways of handling him at school. 6.) The daycare is not following your own discipline strategy according to their handbook page 19. 7.) They labeled him the bad kid - and now document normal 3-year-old behavior as bad. 8.) The claim to call us - they do not. I have only received one phone call from them and that was due to him not feeling well. 9.) Not once have I been called for biting to pick him up 10.) Not once have I been called to pick him up for disruptive behavior. 11.) They never took the time to get to know him, to look at him as an individual with his own needs. They never took the avenue that all kids are different and learn at their own pace. As parent how are we to know there is a problem with no communication? The daycare has set up a family for failure and for a child to fail by treating him unfairly. He did not meet the check marks in all the boxes, so they are kicking him out - instead of giving the parents resources or even other means to help a child get though. They were told upon my son being admitted he is strong-willed and stubborn - their response was we can handle this - this is our job. But again, as he acted out NO communication from them till the end, when they have fully given up on my child (a daycare giving up on a child - think about it) and his family. Spectrum Station is the best kept secret in childcare/education around these parts. I'm actually surprised I'm the first to review them on here. I'm a stay/work at home mom who was frazzled to the core back in March 2011. My three year old WOULDN'T potty train, and I was at a point where I was getting more interrupted throughout the day that I just couldn't catch up with anything, particularly my sanity. I begged and pleaded with my husband to help me find a place we could send her part time during the week. Partly so I could get my wits back to a normal level and also because I felt that our daughter needed to be in a learning environment and start socializing more with peers. She'd only ever been home with me and I'm NOT a good teacher, at all, and being around me all day wasn't going to afford her a good base for socializing later on. Then there was the potty training part, we tried and tried, but all she would do is cry and have violent fits when we'd attempt it. I gave up, and decided someone else was going to have to intervene. Internet search after internet search found me some really great places, but something was always amiss- either they only took potty trained 3 year olds or they were too pricy for even part time. Then I found some places and emailed them. One place took 2 weeks to get back to me, the other, never actually did. Then I remembered "the little place by the casino." I looked them up, found an email address and sent off for some info. I heard back from their founder/owner Jan, the very. Next. Day. She was very informative, friendly and polite. She said our daughter would be a good fit in their 2/3 combination room, where they'd be able to get her caught up with pottying as well as start in on the early ed & socialization she needed. She gave me a quote right away that not only fit into our budget, but the time frame offered for "part time," was the longest by far we'd seen. Jan then set up a time for us to come in and visit, and we did a few days later. Jan herself gave us the tour. I was so blown away. Their facility is well laid out, clean and they not only provide care to your child, they offer a TON of benefits to the parents and the family as a whole! Dry cleaning and once a month parents night out are just to name a FEW! Jan took us thru some of the rooms and the teachers greeted us warmly and let our daughter interact for a bit while we chatted more with Jan. She gave us some paperwork and said they had an opening for part time for us, and that we could essentially start the following week. I was sold. Spectrum wasn't just a great facility, the people there were just so outstanding, they treat everyone with such importance and they all genuinely LOVE their jobs. So April 5th was her first day and we've been going ever since, half days twice a week. She was completely potty trained by the end of May. Early on, she would sit and "try" on the potties at school without a fuss but still wouldn't at home. So finally we just decided discipline was the way to go at home. She was just working us so a time out or two was all it took for her to start going at home but I credit Spectrum for getting the ball rolling on it for us. She's also developed incredible skills from all her learning she's getting and is a completely different 3 year old than she was back in March, and she just transitioned from the 2/3 room to the pre-school room. Last week they had a zoo animal visit and the teacher told me she touched a snake! My husband and I wouldn't even do that! I can't say enough good things about Spectrum. The Manager Michelle greets us every day when we come in and again when we leave, all the office gals up there are polite and cheerful. They stay super busy all day long but still take the time to acknowledge all the parents coming in and out all day. The teachers are friendly and informative and are all hand picked with the utmost care, they don't just let anyone work for them and I like the exclusivity that brings. They have a great curriculum and offer tons of extra curricular (some are "intra" curricular so to speak, they go during the day) like dance and Gymboree classes. We have taken advantage of the Gymboree and our daughter loves it. I could go on and on... Now the only thing keeping this from being 5 Stars is that they don't have a location in the middle Northland area. We attend the one by Ameristar but they also have a Platte City location, they are of equal distance to our house. So I drive an hour round trip for each time I drop her off and pick her up, and truth be told I HATE the industrial district I have to drive thru in Randolph. I'm always smushed between huge semi's and large work trucks. That said, we're going to keep our daughter there as long as we can because it just makes sense and it's worth it for the quality of education and care she is getting. Our son was at Spectrum for his first year. We only moved because of job changes. These teachers and the administration are absolutely phenomenal. I am a first time mom.. and let's just say I'm "particular" but spectrum and the managers always worked with me and were super understanding and accommodating. The teachers truly loved my little guy and he loved them. We will miss spectrum and the many great benefits the school provides including excellent hours, parents night out, professional pictures, drop ins, etc. read more

LOVELOVELOVE Spectrum Station. Highly recommend them for childcare/preschool. Their education based curriculum is a great way to provide your child with a solid foundation of early education. We originally started our then 2 yr old son part time (they offer as little attendance as 1 day a week or 2 half days) but slowly worked up to full time because he is learning SO much. They offer extras like birthday parties, school photos, monthly date night care, even free morning coffee for parents. The teachers worked with me to help my son with potty training, and the Hooked on Phonics programs has improved his reading. I toured 4 different schools and SS was the most expensive, but I feel is WELL worth it! read more

After visiting more than a dozen other centers, I could not be happier that I chose Spectrum Station. Even though we live in Liberty, it is worth the drive to know that our daughter is with the area's best provider. The staff are all extremely knowledgable and experienced, and they are also incredibly nice. The environment of Spectrum Station is one of warmth, serenity, cleanliness, good health (only fresh food!), and genuine learning. I give Spectrum Station my highest recommendation on one of the most important decisions for any child's future. read more

We LOVE Spectrum. Our 18 month old has been going there since she was 8 weeks old and it is insane the amount she has learned. I feel like she is in really good hands everyday and the socialization is so important. It's on the pricier side, but it's so, so worth it! read more

Spectrum Station in Blue Springs MO is in a building full of glass windows that wrap around the entire building. In case of an emergency tornados and severe weather are concerns. The bathrooms are the only areas in the building that do not multiple windows. There are too many children and staff members to fit in the bathroom, which means that not everyone will have the opportunity to take shelter in case of an emergency. The Blue Springs facility director has not setup an evacuation plan to provide a safe shelter to keep the children safe in severe weather conditions (Tornado) or modified the building to be safe for staff and children. read more

I LOVE spectrum. My son loves spectrum. He's been going for a couple of months and I couldn't be happier. I love how everyone always greets you when you come in and when you leave. Not only the teachers, but the director and other stuff all know your kid by name and always say hi. My son is learning so much and absolutely loves going, he asks to go almost everyday. He's 3 and when he first started going he was having a hard time pronouncing some letters, but in just the couple of months he's been going he speaks way more fluently, he can spell his name, he recognizes every letter, and he loves to learn. He's just thriving. I am a huge worry wart when it comes to my son, but I feel so comfortable leaving my son there everyday. They have a million cameras everywhere, they do fun events, I just can't say enough good things. Definitely well worth the money spent. read more
