Barbara assesses the function and coordination of the mouth and tongue in speaking, swallowing, and breathing. She teaches exercises to do at home that retrain those habits over the course of 6-12 months. I wish I would have had the help of someone like Barbara when I was a kid. I turned out okay but it was a struggle in some ways! I had a great experience of my first visit. She took a thorough history, listened well, and made connections between various childhood symptoms. For example, how allergies, ear infections, orthodonture, nighttime breathing habits, and an aversion to meat might all be related! Fascinating. Barbara was caring and respectful. We discussed a plan of treatment, and now I'm feeling inspired to see how this might help me.
