The folks here are genuinely friendly, the place feels well kept, and there's an actual sit-down restaurant that doesn't look like it's been serving the same meatloaf since 1983. I rolled in late and had to roll out early, so I didn't get to try the restaurant this time, but I did manage to grab one of their donuts -- and let's just say it didn't taste like a week-old hockey puck like at most stops. Soft, fresh, and actually worth the carbs. Parking was solid -- room for about 25 trucks and still had space available most of the night. Showers and amenities are what you'd expect for a smaller stop, but you can tell they care about keeping things decent. Overall, Morning Star feels like a reminder that "small" doesn't have to mean "run down." Four stars easy -- and I'll definitely be back to see if the food lives up to the donuts.

I really wish these small town places would hook up with more chains to better the rewards programs since there's no way I'll bother with an app or additional card just for a small local chain. But they serve up friendly staff and pleasant indoor atmosphere with popular beverages and brands in a well organized store.

They sell milled flour and primary ingredients for making your own stuff. I found it interesting how many different types of flour, spices, and primary ingredients like borax used for cleaning laundry and disinfecting were available for purchase by the pound. I was able to buy homemade black licorice for $3. Homemade canned strawberry rhubarb butter to spread on toast for $4-5. They also have a huge discount section and the kids loved stretching their $5 budget and got a bunch of Halloween and Christmas specific candy cheaply for no other reason than it being the wrong holiday. My husband bought some Amish sourdough bread, but was disappointed with the taste. Upon looking at the label I noted there were a lot of ingredients. Just something to note. Not all Amish foods are created equal and not all items are organic or without preservatives. Read your labels, make educated choices and admire a store of thrifty, honest, and hardworking folks.
