The coffee and espresso? Legitimately excellent--on par with some of the best third-wave shops on Long Island. Rich, smooth, perfectly brewed. You can tell they're serious about quality. The beans they use are from one of the best shops on Long Island, Flux Coffee in Farmingdale. The vibe here is warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed. Great for meeting a friend, working, or just want to escape life for a bit. Fast Wi-Fi, plenty of comfortable seating, and a great selection of snacks that go way beyond your average café fare. What makes it even better is how much they clearly care about the local community. The staff is friendly and attentive, and there's a real neighborhood feel here - it feels like community. I ordered the French Vietnamese Au Lait along with a sausage, egg, and cheese on a croissant. I never thought I'd wish I lived in Smithtown until that moment. The coffee was absolutely divine, and the breakfast sandwich was perfectly made. If you're someone who isn't used to drinking coffee, do yourself a favor and don't order the quad version and then wonder why you're awake all night! It's delicious, but it's packed with caffeine and definitely lives up to its name. The café itself is clean, cozy, and inviting. It's the perfect place to study, catch up on work, or curl up with a good book. I ended up pulling out my Kindle and finishing my book club read while I waited for Hobby Lobby to open, and it couldn't have been a better way to spend the morning. There's a small parking lot, but I had no trouble finding a spot. The restroom was also incredibly clean, which I always appreciate. They do such a great job of utilizing the building's unique layout, with the front half of the store dedicated to literature (adult and YA on the right, children's on the left) and the back half functioning as a space for people of all ages to sit, read, and hang out. In the back on the right side of the store, there are plenty of comfy chairs to settle into and read, and over on the left side is an adorable children's storytime space! In terms of titles, they have a wide and impressive variety- especially considering how new they are! I bought Amy Tan's "The Backyard Bird Chronicles," and was definitely intrigued by other titles from authors I hadn't seen before. They have new indie, works in translation, cloth bound classics, and book tok favorites. Everything is so well organized and clean as well! Finally, the owner, Jennifer, and her family, are so incredibly kind and helpful!! They clearly care so much about what they do, and about their role in the community- as evidenced by their showcasing local art from the nearby firefly gallery, and potentially partnering with a local coffee shop in their bar towards the back of the store!
