I haven't done this hike in over 15 years! Wow. They put a fence up around the top of falls now for safety. That was smart. Driving there, once u turned onto gravel road for 6 miles, it got pretty bumpy. There were lots of potholes on the road. But once you got to the split off before the wooden bridge u drive across. Make a right and follow it all the way down to parking area. Then go through the metal fence crossing a small creek. Turn right to stay on the trail. Follow it to down to where the split off is of which route to take to falls. Boom! You'll be there before you know it. Upper is only a mile up. But it'll vary with which route to take. It's beautiful with meadows and woody trees. Lots of sun. Bring sunscreen!! A lot of places to swim in if you want too. Overall a great hike. read more

Came out here to hike Beale Falls. There's a decent parking with lot approximately 60? Parking spots. See my picture on where NOT to start. Like many others say, it's a gravel road for like last 5 miles or so. If you are driving a 2 wheel drive, you'll be fine but MOVE OVER for vehicles that want to pass. People think since they are doing 10 MPH that everyone else has to as well. Just move. Hike is pretty. There are multiple routes to get to the falls. My suggestion is when in doubt STAY RIGHT. Falls were cool espeically after rain. Got there around 11 on a Saturday. Probably about 30 to 40 people out there. Everyone likes to flock to the top of the waterfall which is cool but the best pics you'll be able to take are at the base. Unfortunately, you'll have people in your pic sitting or standing at the top which is annoying but my suggestion is the earlier you go the better. Crowd IQ exponentially gets WORSE as the day gets later. Cows all over the place. Not really muddy at all we went day after light rain. read more

Beautiful!!! It's a good hike to the falls but once you're there it is well worth it!!! There are gorgeous swimming spots. The water is very clear. If you're up for caring the fishing pools, do so!!! We went in a large group (kids and adults) and it was memorable. The hike there has limited shading so be sure to take some sunblock and a hat. Pack some water and snacks and be ready to enjoy the view. read more

It's only for people that have lived within 20 miles of the location for the entirety of their lives (military service, and some religious stuff is ok. Depends on the religion though). Being as the aforementioned rules have been in place for a good while now, the place is just great. I would be thrilled if the same regulations were used on anyone that even enjoys San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, or the rotten apple. read more

My boyfriend and I just went for a hike here and saw the "Lower Falls". The hike was easy, except for a few places where trees have collapsed in the middle of the paths! (see pictures). The heat is what made it difficult, most of the path is in direct sunlight with very little shade! Luckily there are several places to stop along the way to get the water and go swimming and cool off. The water was soo refreshing! As far as getting here, the website directions are ridiculous! Not sure if this helps, but this is the way we went: north on 70, to hwy 20, exit Hammonton Smartsville Rd. The sign says something like "Hmmtn Smrtsvll". The road splits and you want to stay to the left, the street name is "Chuck Yeager Rd". From there you'll go a few miles, then turn left onto "Waldo Rd". This is a gravel road and extremely bumpy! Then you'll go over a bridge and that's where Waldo Rd dead ends into "Spenceville Rd" - which also turns into a gravel road. You'll turn left on Spenceville and follow that until you reach the old cement bridge (again see picture). there is a big space for parking, and the bridge is blocked off so that you can only walk across it. You can't miss it! :) Once you walk across the bridge, turn to your right, and follow the signs! It's impossible to get lost. And I didn't see any cattle out there like the previous reviewers...maybe they aren't there anymore? It took us almost 4 hours total to hike up to the falls and back. But we stopped several times either when we got to shade or by the water to go swimming, and we also took a lot of time climbing all over the rocky parts by the waterfall so that we could get right in front of it - which was soo worth it! We can't wait to go back and see the other waterfall! :) read more

Whenever I feel like going for a good hike or swim, I head out here. It's great year-round, and depending on the season, you can see a lot of different forms of wildlife. Towards the end of the hike, there is a breathtaking 60-foot waterfall and amazing views of the surrounding valleys. There are a few different trails to hike on based on your ability level. The main trail leads directly up to the falls and is more of a walk than a hike. It's a wide trail that mountain bikers and horseback riders use. There are several trails that branch off of the main one, and are more of a challenge to hike through. The benefits of these trails, though, are the views that they offer of the area, as well as several stopping points along the creek to go swimming, relax by the water, or explore. I've gone swimming multiple times in the various areas along the creek, as well as the large pool beneath the falls. Despite what a previous reviewer mentioned, there is no danger to swimming in this area. It's actually a very common summer spot. I've gone in the Spring when the snow melt rages through the falls and the water levels are at their peak, and I've never experienced an issue with an overwhelming current. Deaths reported in the area, including the one represented by the cross at the top of the falls, were identified by police as cliff jumping accidents. read more

I've hiked out here a couple times now, and it's a very pleasant little area to wander around. Lots of little trails to turn off on if you get bored of the main one. Beale Falls is a quite a spectacular little waterfall. I didn't expect much, but ended up being pleasantly surprised by its flow. Spring would obviously be the best time to see it. Don't go in the water, though; several people have died by getting caught in the current and swept away. There's a sobering reminder of that fact, a steel cross on a tree overlooking the falls. Also be wary of the cows. There are many of them along the main trail, with fences that are supposed to keep them on the other side of it, but often they are loitering around in the middle of the trail. They usually just casually walk away if you come near at a slow pace, but I've witnessed a couple of them charge after some dogs on a leash. It's good to have a farm dog with you that's trained to nip at the heels of cattle (saw a bonafide-lookin' cowboy on a horse do that with his dog once). Otherwise, just be wary and give them lots of space. They can be kinda territorial. All in all, I really love this area. Beautiful wildflowers all over the place in the spring, and endless rolling green hills. Pretty easy hike that kids can enjoy, too. read more

If you have a thing for men in uniform then follow the yelp directions because it takes you to the Air Force Base lol. The actual trail begins down a long bumpy dirt road, so if you have a truck or off road you're golden if not just drive slow, avoid breaking an axle and enjoy the scenery :) A few miles down the road, across the bridge you find the trail head and a concrete bridge. The first half is a slow incline and rather pretty, easy for kids and dogs. The trail splits, turn right at the gate and continue across the long majestic pastures and cow patty mine fields. We took the upper and lower trail which are basically the same Length both equally lovely. The upper is heavy incline for kids but tough kids shouldn't have an issue. The falls were lovely... nothing less then serene and a perfect spot to eat lunch. Shitty directions, 4star trail. read more

Nice little trail. This is not really a trail for real hikers (in my opinion anyway. This is the type of "nature trail" you could take kids on, or perhaps a date. Its not very long and does not have crazy gains or losses in elevation, so its not particularly challenging. In fact, its not uncommon to find elderly people out on the trail. Several trails branch off the main road, and it doesn't matter because they all lead to the same place....a pretty nice water fall. I hike in with water shoes and my swimming trunks and dive in, its a lot of fun for that. However, the fish that live in these streams and pools are extremely hungry...and will nibble you, no big deal. You don't need a map and compass. Because all trails lead to the same spot, and essentially follows the same stream you cross over when you begin the trail, its impossible to get lost, unless of course you are a complete moron. I give it 4 stars, but not really as a hiking spot, but more of a place to walk in and picnic by the falls, or go swimming. The downside is that everybody and their cousin Timmy seems to know about this place, so if you are looking for a secluded spot, or are looking to get away from people...this is NOT the place. I saw another review that stated several people have died here by getting swept away by the current. That is complete bull shitt. One kid died her some time ago, by jumping off a cliff into the water. I have swam all through the main pool, and all through the actuall main falls themselves, followed by my 5 1/2 Chihuahua/pappilon mix pup. He was able to swim agains the current. I guess some people see a memorial, freak out, and begin creating stories. read more

This is a big park right on the north side of Beale AFB. In fact, it used to be part of the base when Beale was a tank training base during WWII. You can still see old concrete bunkers and bridges from back when. I think that the reconstructed a fake German town too, but I have never been able to find that. If you drive all the way back Spenceville Road, eventually you have to stop because the bridge is blocked off (and good thing - you can walk it but you wouldn't want to drive it!). Hike back this old road for a mile or two and you'll get to Fairy (or Beale) Falls. Not too shabby. Beware of rattlesnakes - I've seen a few. Love coming here for shooting, hiking and swimming! Love going to fairy falls and checking out the waterfall! Lots of cows and some sporadic wildlife. Heard some coyotes, but have yet to see them! read more

This is a great family hiking area. Not too challenging and easy for kids. About four years ago my husband used to go running out to the falls. One evening he went out and ended up finding a family who had just lost there son after he jumped into the falls and got caught under the falls and drowned. My point being.... BE CAREFUL if you try to swim out there. He was very young and his family watched it happen with nothing they could do. read more

First of all the address was completely wrong it takes you to a air force base!!! Second the road is absolutely horrible!! If you drive a average size car highly consider driving a SUV because the road is filled with gravel and is very rough. Third if you have to pee you are fu**ed because there is no bathroom just bushes !!! Idk why anyone has said this is a kid friendly trail!! I would never bring my children here nor a date! I love hiking and hunting out here. Also do a bit of geocaching. Must say the road seems to be getting worse and well now no lead ammo for hunting. Bot the lake and creeks are full. The hike to the falls is nice not to hard. read more

The variety of trails that all lead to Beale falls, makes this a great hike. Probably around 5.5-6 miles in total, there's a nice dirt road, or horse trails or foot trails. All of which offer great groves of oak trees, and the waterfalls are very nice. Not easy to traverse down Beale falls, but a great view and good payoff. read more
