This little lake gives Marysville some character. Its near the downtown area and its pleasant on the eyes. This isn't a destination by any means but if your in the area its worth going ten minutes out of the way to see. Things looked to be in OK condition. It wasn't manicured like a Japanese tea garden but it didn't have trash everywhere either. It's perfect for taking your dog for a walk - and functionally I think that is one of the most important things to be happy in a neighborhood. I have no words to describe Ellis Lake. It has changed drastically for the WORSE! No upkeep. It's just not what it used to be since 2004. It's no wonder why Marysville is losing its charm. Being at Ellis Lake now in 2023 will just give the feeling of sadness and beyond belief of what is happening. Ellis Lake definitely has potential, but not anymore with how it is being left unmaintained. First off. Pollution: Runoff from fertilizers, contaminated soil and other products has polluted the lake from human and bird feces, poop, pee, drugs, needles, etc... just floating around on the lake. YUCK!!!! Lots off overgrown vegetation beyond the eyes can see. Too many algae blooms. The lake is just beyond nasty and stinky! I highly advise just doing a drive by, but not going for a stroll around Ellis lake if you do want to visit. Either wise, this place isn't worth it to bring your out of state family/friends to visit Marysville. Rather divert going to Folsom Lake. It's that embarrassing for what the city of Marysville has gone to in a not so positive direction. Shame. Shame. Shame. SMH! Okayyyy... bye. read more

Goose/duck poop central! We decided to venture outside on Friday and get some Vitamin D! Not familiar with the area, but we drove around until we found a somewhat private place to hang out for a while. We stopped by AJ's Sandwiches and found a nice shady spot to sit down for a picnic. It was beautiful weather, clean of garbage and quiet! Everyone around was respectful of social distancing and it was just the perfect day to relax! They have benches, tables, a picturesque bridge and plenty of space to fish! The water wasn't the cleanest looking, but the view was still great! Parking was easy, but I would imagine that it could get pretty crazy on busy days! Make sure you bring bread to feed the ducks! They will swim right over to you. read more

City leaders should be ashamed of themselves. This place could be nice and could be a positive central gathering spot for residents and visitors alike. Instead its a filthy and sketchy area where you have to be on high alert. From a quick glance, first impression is that this is a cool man made lake, has a nice white gazebo in one of the middle islands. An island that you could only get to if you have a boat. There is a narrow but efficient walking path around the entire thing. It's perfect right!? But you get closer and decide to take this walk, and you are welcomed by vagrants and homeless. Every now and then you will pass by normal looking folk enjoying the fishing. But on a nice Saturday afternoon, with little to no people around except the vagrants, homeless, and druggies passed out on the benches and the pathway--there obviously is a reason why. The entire place is filthy. Duck/geese feces everywhere. Walls/signs/benches are tagged upon. Landscape not kept up. Tons of trash in the water. It's really sad to see because you could just feel/sense how this would have been a great feature to highlight for the city. If you go in a group and be lucky when other regular residents decide to brave this area, its pleasant. But with such a big gamble of the negatives that are more prone to be popping up makes this place a bad call to visit unless you really have to. read more

It is a nice little lake where you can just take a walk or fish. Unfortunately it is not kept clean. There are so many poops from ducklins on the walkway. I had to wash my baby's stroller. But my doggie really enjoyed chasing duckies. It is nice they have ample parking as well. They got picnic tables and I saw some people eating lunch there, but also spotted semi-crazy people as well. I wish they would upkeep this place better....could be much nicer. read more

This lake didn't seem to bad. My dog hated it and ran out of her harness back to the car but whatever. I wished that I had brought some crumbs to feed the ducks. It wasn't dirty and I didn't see any garbage on the ground. I did see the family of ground squirrels and they were the cutest things I have seen in a long time. Its worth going to check them out any day. And there's foul droppings everywhere you can't avoid stepping in it. Ellis Lake is one of those places that could be really peaceful and relaxing, but people trash it. The amount of trash there is obscene. That said, I still go for early morning jogs around the lake from time to time and the other exercisers are really friendly. I see parents taking their children there to feed the birds and a lot of people fishing. It would be great if we could get a local cleanup going -- the lake needs it! read more

This is such a gem. It's picturesque and very calming. We came here when the trees were blooming, which looked magical. The kids enjoyed the ducks very much, although some of them were hissing but hey, all in good fun. Lots of people walking their dogs and getting some exercise. For starters I can't believe you can rate Ellis lake! With that being said it's not exactly the place I want to spend an afternoon with family. It's nice to look at but that's about it. The duck crap all over the place makes areas of the sidewalk slippery! Eww! This lake is kind of a joke for anyone who lives in Marysville or the surrounding areas. I once saw a pamphlet that said it was the "Jewel of Marysville". I couldn't hold in my laughter. It is a gross lake that I am pretty sure has some radio-activity coming off of it. The ducks that live there are slightly deformed. We find a dead body in it every once in a while. I wouldn't be surprised if the zombie apocalypse started there. WARNING: THIS IS NOT A LAKE TO SWIM IN. Or even touch. Or get too close to. I would NOT eat any fish caught in this lake. However, I do have to give it three stars for sentimental reasons. I have had some fun times with friends at the gazebo. Also, if you are looking for a place to hang out at night that you won't get thrown out of, this is a good place to go. read more

Ellis Lake is currently pretty sad. Dirty water & a lot of trash. With that said, it is a public park where many people come & leave behind reminders of their visit mostly in the form of all types of litter. My husband & I frequently take walks around the lake. Each time we do, we always bring gloves & bags to pick up our own garbage plus whatever trash we see left by other rude visitors. If everyone who visited would do the same, the lake would look very different. P.S. There are waterfowl dropping on the sidewalk & grass. They are animals. They poop. Enough said. read more

I love Ellis Lake, I've been going there for years. Please if you are going to feed the birds DO NOT feed them bread. It is horrible for them and can actually kill them. Keep Ellis Lake nice and throw away or take your garbage with you when you leave. This is a great place to teach a kid how to fish, or go for a nice walk or a picnic. I've seen beautiful weddings, drum circles and other events on some of the islands that are connected by wooden bridges. Really cool place. read more

Ellis lake is always dirty and stinks. It seems as though the birds have taken over the lake, from the lawns, to the pathways and side walks there is bird crap everywhere. The water looks disgusting and dirty. Every once in a while you will come across a dead smelly fish on the sidewalk that someone decided not the throw back. Killer attack geese? LOL !!! Too funny ! No, these geese dont attack. Sometimes you can find geese in places that will attack,all you do is grab them by the neck and hold for a minute and they will not do it again. Lots of people come to feed the ducks and the geese. There is a flock of over 100 canadian geese that call ellis lake home at this time. Ellis lake is a wonderful little lake for people to walk around for exercise and take their kids fishing. Nothing as fun as watching your little ones catch a fish. Use little hooks and just enough worm to cover the hook and the kids will catch lots of perch. There are also bass, crappie and catfish. WATCH YOUR POLE !!! I know of 4 people I have talked to that lost their poles by not holding on to them. There are some big catfish in there. Yea , the water is dirty as there is no clean water to go through it and flush it out. Hopefully that will be resolved. Lots of people go there to have lunch, picnics, fish and exercise. It is real peaceful as darkness comes on and you watch the water fountain with all its colors. mog read more

Ellis Lake is not as bad as people say. Things are improving but it needs help. My family goes out there almost every morning to clean around the lake. We pick up tons of trash and stuff that the fishermen leave behind (hooks, lures, miles of line). We have even pulled stuff out of the water. To dates we have removed 11 bicycles, 6 traffic barricades, a stroller, a pet carrier, a scooter, a garbage can and other trash. If everyone would pick up a little trash or just throw their own stuff in the garbage cans when they leave the lake it would help a lot. read more

It's a nice place to take the kids for a walk. You can pick up some free duck food (bread cubes) at the nearby Mr. Pickles. The city of Marysville really has cleaned this place up lately. If you have toddlers watch them closely near the edge. read more

Growing up, this was one place I always liked. Its a nice place to spend time watching cars and let time go by. Hearing the bells down the block is always fun. Fishing is also go, but I don't recommend eating them until Ellis really needs good maintenance for the water. Pigeon and duck crap is literally your walkway so walk at your own risk. It also seems like people are dumping new ducks there because they arent the migrating fowls like the canadian geese. The lake finally got something going for it which is the floating island that is suppose to clean the lake. Cost is a big reason why the water isn't being pumped and clean, they can appreciate some help and support too (Facebook "Help Ellis Lake Prosper"). I like it the most at night when the fountain and light show is turned on plus the light surrounding the lake makes a colorful shine. Only thing I can tell people about Marysville is this lake and that it almost became the capital of California. Hopefully this place will be better in the future because its the only thing that makes Marysville stand out. read more
