I recently purchased a Bumper from Spillar. They completely put the wrong product on my car. After telling them they said I was wrong. I showed them the photo I brought in, the photo from the Ranch Hand website which was on the flyer in their show room. The older lady in the office proceeded to tell me that despite the fact the brochure which was right in front of her show differently that I was wrong. It has little to do with the bumper, quality or even how it was installed. It is 100% to do with the attitude of the staff, the lack of attention to detail Or willingness to admit they ordered the wrong part. To top it off they couldn't even figure out what the balance correctly. In the end it was a five dollar difference, but I was willing to pay it to leave and not have to deal with the worst customer service I've had in a while. You really have to want the bumper and have no other options to use Spillar. Make sure you get everything in writing, keep your paperwork, and dot the I's and cross the T's. No matter what, don't expect them to apologize if they screw up. Prologue: After reviewing the paperwork I realized they had even written it down, the way we had discussed it. I confronted them with this and told them they needed to make it right. It's hard to be a small business and turn a profit, I of all people understand that. I needed my utility trailer fixed. Nothing to do with hitches but the tailgate locks with bolts and one of those bolts snapped in two. I needed a quick turn-around for a trip to California bringing back a concrete fountain. They said they could fix it no problem, just drop it off. So, I dropped it off on Wednesday the 24th and in a week they had two new bolts fabricated. If you need this type of repair or for custom hitch work, these folks are who you want to call. I'm not your typical Spillar Custom Hitches customer. I brought in the Camry I've owned for a handful of years. It had a trailer hitch installed on it - welded on in fact! It came with the car and I needed to have it removed as it was causing issues. I scheduled an appointment over the phone, arrived this morning and they took care of it in less than 10 minutes! And what's amazing is they didn't charge me for the work. I offered to pay some sort of basic fee but they refused! I'm not sure if and when I'll ever need some hitch work done, but if I do, I'll be going to Spillar! read more

Bad experience. Call in for quote for diesel transfer tank, 20' of hose, an in line filter and an auto stop nozzle. I agree to a price of $15XX and arrange an appointment. After the installation I notice that the in line filter and auto stop nozzle aren't installed and the incorrect length of hose was installed. I was told those parts had to be ordered and they apologized for the incomplete installation. I show up a few days later (today) for them to complete the installation. They bring it out front as "complete." Still has the incorrect length of hose and the inline filter is installed incorrectly (sideways instead of vertical.) They take it back into the shop for another hour and tell me it's complete and I'm ready to go. They spilled diesel over half of my bed, up the side walls and all over my tool box. They say "sorry, spilled a bit of diesel but we tried to wipe it off." I'm furious. Throughout this process they had me put a deposit down then settle up after the install. I was originally quoted $15XX, then they tried charging me $17XX... awful experience. They also wanted additional money for the parts they had to order after the original installation... I asked if I was not clear with my original request and they agreed I was but they were busy that day and misordered the parts. Unbelievable. read more

Took my truck in for a lift and to get a frame welded for my truck crane. The lift went well, the frame they asked me to come back the following week to get the truck realigned and to get the frame installed. Took off the following week went in I was informed that the welding machine was down and to come back next week. The realignment of my tires was outsourced to another shop where they broke the air filter compartment. No phone call about their welding machine not working. read more

Jun 24-2021. Business warning! This post is about Spillar custom hitches unacceptable business practices. I requested three items to be done on a vehicle. 1. Add additional support on spare tire rack. / gashed/damaged $800 aluminum rim taking it off the tire rack. Also damage to brand new aluminum bumper. 2. Ask to put supports on hood latch. / screwed the hood shut, had to return to have the hood opened correctly. 3. Asked to install seven way trailer electrical hitch. / The hitch was incorrectly installed damaged electrical backup camera cost me three times as much to resolve with the dealership/electrical. After speaking with the owner Terry, she was of no help... A $300 job cost me $600 to resolve, not including damages to the vehicle. These individuals are incompetent to do work of quality. Buyer beware. Know what you want and what they are providing. My receipt # is 89596. The service including repacking the bearings on one axel and replacing them on the other. That was in February 2015. I have put less than 1000 miles on the trailer and the bearings let loose last night 7/26 and the brakes failed 6/2015. I took the wheel off and assessed the damage. Not pinch of grease and the races were seized on. The spindle completely damaged by the bearing failure. Now I have to replace the axel. It is apparent they did not perform the service we paid for. I should have known by the wiring they did for me that this is not a quality shop. They will say and do what they can to get your money and usher you out the door. So disappointed, since they had been reviewed so high. Maybe I got a lazy tech but it is what it is and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

The South Location totally screwed my dad. He took it there to get 7 way plug connected. After half a day "diag" they said they couldn't figure out why brake and turn signals weren't working. Not only did they not fix it, they charged us around $200. He brought it home. After 15 minutes of "diag", there was a blown fuse in slot for brake lights, and the flasher relay was out. For about $3 and 2 beers, it was fixxed. That's basic stuff. Y'all suck. read more

I took them an axle to have the perches welded on. The welder did no preparation and the welds look horrible. I could have done better myself honestly. I wish I would have never brought them my car parts. I don't even know if this is going to work. It took them a week to mess up my parts real good. read more

I was experiencing a chain of unfortunate events, and one of them was that my trailer hitch's electrical went out the day before I had to make a big move and needed a trailer. I never got the electrical angel's name who helped me, but he floated in from lunch break, said he'd take a look and had it all fixed in no time. (I had been told they were booked for a few weeks for appointments). Price was very fair too. I am so grateful for this person who saved my day. I bought my Aladdin towbar here in 2002 and that's when I first met Randy as he installed it. I was a little nervous about towing a car behind my motorhome, but he patiently showed me everything and built up my confidence that I could do this with no problem. Once when I had a question after someone "helped" me hook up and I then had problems with one of the arms, Randy came over to the RV park (very close to their S. Congress location, but still...) and looked everything over to make sure all was well. Last year when I bought another car, I had him install what was needed on my new car. Since that car was heavier, I then needed a Brake Buddy auxiliary braking system. Again, I think Randy went above and beyond the norrms of customer service as he showed me step by step everything that was needed so that I could manage all the new steps safely. He even gave me his cell phone number so I could call if I had any questions. Once I was on the road, I did have a concern, so I called and he told me what to do and put me mind at ease. This review is for the welding shop, in regards to guard rails for my house. After going through many good leads for quality wrought iron contractors (or so I was told) I had had enough. Three different contractors came to my house and got measurements as well evaluated just converting the rails I had. Each of them left with the typical "I'll send you a quote tomorrow" and I got bupkis. Here comes the rant... I need work done, you do the work I need. I have money to pay your hefty price, you want my money. Yet, you never seem to call me back to complete the transaction. I would think that $1500 is a pretty good amount of money. Times are hard yet you never seem to call me back so I can give you my money. How can you be a successful business with this approach? It's very typical though....except with Spillar. The guys at the welding shop were so friendly and easy to work with. There was no condescending tone and no attitude to deal with. Ted was amazingly flexible and always appreciative. I was a little confused with all the variety out there and he just broke down to me in such terms that it seemed elementary. This place has a section that builds and installs trailer hitches, and another that is a general welding/blacksmithing shop. My review is for the latter. I built a nice huge oak table for my formal dining room. The cost of the materials for the table was cheap compared to the price of chairs. I found some chairs on sale, but they're the newer "taller" ones (the seat is at 24"). Eventually I'll build a nice pedestal base for the table, but to have it ready by Christmas I bought 2 restaurant-style metal pedestal bases. They have 2 heights: normal table, and bar. One is too short for the chairs I bought, and the other is too tall. So I bought the taller columns. Shortening them by 6 1'2" is how I learned about Spillar's. I tried a hacksaw myself... it'd take too much work, and they'd probably be crooked. I looked for several places, but none of them could cut them for me. Eventually I found Spillar's, and a nice guy in the welding shop cut them for me while I waited. He cut the two columns and the long center bolts that connect the top and bottom pieces. Total cost was $25, but that may be the minimum. Either way, it was worth it me, and they did a nice job. If you ever need any welding/blacksmithing work done (they also fabricate metal furniture, railings, etc) or other heavy-duty metal work, I fully recommend them. I have no reason to suspect that the hitch part of the business isn't as good. read more

Heard this place was the best, had someone take their bbq pit there for some welding work. Spillar has had the pit for months without completing the work they were paid to do on it and now they won't release the pit to the owner without having him shell out even more money to get it back. This guy needs his pit for his business and Spillar just does not care. Had to take them to small claims court. They asked for a delay and then they did not even show up for the appointed day in court! Judge ruled against Spillar, not at all an honorable way to do business, just wow! read more

I needed to get a bumper welded onto my truck. I called all over town and everyone refused to weld on the vehicle... even muffler shops! So, I contemplated just renting a welder and doing the job myself. Finally, someone recommended I give Spillar a call. They gave me an estimate which was just a little over what renting a welder would cost, so I set an appointment up. The guy that did the welding was super nice and called me out to inspect the work prior to finishing everything up. Plus the original quote included drilling a few holes for my fender flares that turned out to be unnecessary, so they took that cost off and even suggested a better way to do it. read more

I don't know how four beers in downtown Austin gets you lost in Dripping Springs with a busted oil pan, but somehow my girlfriend managed to do that. After being unable to find a used one, I decided to have her drop it off at Spillar to have them weld the cracks shut. When we got it back the first time, it was still leaking a bit, and they apologized profusely, fixed it, and actually checked it for leaks. So if you need aluminum welded, I'd highly recommend them. read more

I needed a hitch put on my small convertible to carry a bike and several other hitch companies in town referred me to Spillar because of the skill needed for this job. Spillar said it was one of the tougher hitch jobs they've had in a while, but still did it within budget. I've read on several posts that a hitch can't be put on this car but they did it, and it's well hidden, looks good an now I can cary my bike. Most hitches can be installed DIY but if you aren't mechanically inclined or need a very custom solution, they are probably the best in Austin. The worst customer service in Austin. I took 4 hours out of my day to see if they could fabricate a brush guard for me. When I got there, I had to wait 90 minutes while Kevin had lunch. Then we met so I could explain what I wanted and he was supposed to call me with an estimate. After a week, I had to call to check in. Kevin was out, but never called back.
