I was told I had to pay 7 days in advance, the amount remaining of my deductible / out of pocket expense. I paid the $4000.00 that was required out of my HAS account on 06-01-2026. The problem is this payment was never relayed to Medica. So to Medica, I still had the full amount of remaining out of pocket to meet. I am getting Medica EOBs and bills where I owe payment even though my early payment for the hip surgery brought me to within $100 of my max out of pocket. I now have the challenge of tracking all my other bills, EOBs and payments and then somehow convey those to Medica and to TCO Excel to figure how to get a refund for payments beyond my max out of pocket total. Taxes may be an issue if it cannot be refunded back into my HAS account (HSA account is tax differed). This is very frustrating. If I could go back, I would not have paid the up front money or would have gone a different route for my hip replacement and not use TCO Excel. I have had disk replacement in my back, the early surgery on my hip, and my wife had a hip replacement at other providers. No prepayment was required for those surgeries and billing was not as confusing or required effort on my part to track my payments.

I asked him why he doesn't do MACI anymore, but he wouldn't say why. He emailed me back saying to email his administrator, Amanda Peña, to arrange for him to review my records. I emailed her about getting my records to him, asked what his reasoning is for not doing MACI anymore, and if he would recommend OCA for me. She did not answer any of my questions and just said that he would be happy to review my imaging and records, and that he can't offer a full recommendation without also doing a physical examination. I emailed Amanda on May 18 asking when would be the earliest appointment available, and again, asked what his reasoning is for not doing MACI anymore and if he does OCA. She did not respond. I tried emailing her, calling her, left voicemails, and submitted my questions/request for an appointment on Dr. LaPrade's website and on the TCOMN website. No one ever responded. I didn't know what else to do, so I contacted the records department on June 10. They responded to me on June 16 and said that someone would reach out to me. Christa Johnson, a Patient Advocate, told me that LaPrade wouldn't take on my case. I emailed her back and told her that Dr. LaPrade said he wouldn't make treatment recommendations without examining me and reviewing my reports. I asked her why that changed. I also told her that the last surgeon I saw was the only one out of everyone I've seen who recommended MACI/TTO, so it didn't make sense to continue treatment with him. Furthermore, I wanted to get care locally in MN, and Dr. LaPrade was recommended to me. Christa never responded to my questions or emailed me back. I tried emailing Dr. LaPrade again about getting an appointment ASAP. No one responded. Because of the lack of communication I received, I didn't know what else to do other than to drive to the clinic to schedule an appointment since no one was helping me. The following week I get a voicemail from Paula. She says that Dr. LaPrade is not going to take on my case. I call her back and ask why, but she won't explain. To sum it up, I am beyond frustrated and disappointed with the lack of communication and consideration of Dr. LaPrade and his team. They are disrespectful, neglectful, and it is completely inexcusable for them to treat me the way they did. I spent almost 2 months trying to get an appointment, and in the end, it was a huge waste of my time and energy. And it was a major letdown. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone.

Met with a NP, who told me that she would never prescribe anything for the pain and that the intrathecal pain pump was my only option. I had previously tried the spinal cord stimulator with failing results. After the "trial" I ended up with a spinal fluid leak, leading to excruciating headaches. After days of calling, they finally scheduled a procedure to fix the leak. I should have seen the signs then, but was so hopeful to have relief. Had the pain pump installed and thought everything was fine and I would finally live with less pain. Little did I know, the pump would be empty before the date they told me to come back on and I was forced to endure morphine withdrawals on my own. Phone calls went unanswered and portal messages ignored. When my NP finally responded to me via the portal, she blamed the emptying on me. Fast forward to round 2, I asked for a medication change due to the side effects I was experiencing, was given the change but again was forced to withdrawal because they will not return phone calls asking for a fill. I am so done, I will have the pump removed and learn to live in pain. Do your homework!!!

My husband was loosing hope that his pain would ever go away and his quality of life would ever go back to the way it was before this all began and on top of that he was full of anxiety and fear of having the surgery but Dr. Mciver helped ease up his fear of the procedure and today he says it's the best things he's ever done. Because of Dr. Mciver's expertise and willingness to do whatever he could to repair my husbands back he has also helped restore his hope for the future. Dr. Mciver is with his patients from the moment they arrive for surgery and with the help of his incredible surgical team they all work together with every aspect of the surgical process to insure a positive and pleasant experience. He is extremely professional, caring about the individuals needs, honest, knowledgeable, pleasant, super down to earth, funny, and very candid regarding realistic expectations so you are not hit with any surprises. He was super patient and understanding of our endless questions up until the operating room and dynamic regarding what to expect before, during and after surgery. His laid back style really helped to put our minds at ease. We would not hesitate to recommend you to our closest friends and family. We send our thanks and appreciation to Dr. Mciver for giving us a new start at a new Joe! Through your work Joe is ready to get back to enjoying living his life pain free and being able to have fun again and it's all because of you and your team. We couldn't have asked for a better group of people to manage the operation. The office staff as well as the after surgery staff of nurses and techs are just as wonderful, patient, informative, helpful, sympathetic, competent and kind as you would expect them to be if hand-picked by Dr. Mciver. They are the most sweetest we've ever came across out of all the hospitals and clinics we've been at. Mercy surgical staff for the win!

I think its been about a year or so since my last treatment and I can say I am still pain free. I have been able to complete a couple rounds of P90X one as a super modified version as more of rehab and core strengthening and another where I was able to go at it and get back in shape. Again, a big thanks for everything he did to help me get back to living normal again.
