Knowing that I would need to branch out past the usual neighborhood spots, I turned to the Jelps to see what was going on throughout the Derby City. Old Louisville Flower Shop popped up in the search and after some quick research I knew it was for me. The selection is top notch. Beyond just offering floral arrangements for the standard reasons, I have found the creativity and artistry in what they offer to be a rarity in Louisville. Not once have I been disappointed in an arrangement or in the beauty of what flowers they chose. OLFS gives you the option to suggest flowers but know that they are pros for a reason. If you leave the choosing up to them, I'd be shocked if you were disappointed. Artistry and creativity doesn't come cheap but for what the arrangements look like and the quality of flower and vase used, I think there's a real value there. I've never looked at an arrangement and thought that I didn't get my money's worth. The only hiccups I have had are in delivery (which is why this isn't a full five star review). I think OLFS is a pretty small operation and as their reputation grows so does their client base and demand. That's resulted in some slightly late deliveries (and if anything is high about their prices, it's their delivery fee). Or deliveries where some items have been left off. The shop has always made it right (refunds and what not) but the 'oops moments' have occurred. They don't happy often but it's been more than once. It's not a situation that would make me change my patronage but in the spirit of being fully transparent to new clients I wanted to point it out. That said, I don't think you'll find a better florist in Louisville.

I just had my wedding here yesterday and am still in awe of how smoothly it went and how beautiful it was. We chose to go with a Pop Up wedding package. It included sooooo much and made wedding planning a million times easier. The package included the use of both rooms - reception and hearth room. It included catering, cake and cupcakes, officiant, wedding planner (Janna), DJ, and your choice of decorations. It CAN include your flowers too, something I chose to do and they were beautiful! You cannot beat the price anywhere. The venue itself if gorgeous! I am in live with the hearth room and am so glad we were able to have the ceremony in there. It is a HUGE stone hearth that takes up moth of the wall. They have it decorated gorgeously with lanterns and garland. The reception room is huge and has a nice stage. The tables and chairs all get decorated and looked amazing. It is very classy. There is also a very nice bar area if you choose to get a bar package. It is all stone and wood. There is a beautiful outside area to get married and/or take pictures. They have a great bride room with its own toilet, lots of mirrors, and seats. The restrooms are very nice and large so people can change clothes is needed. I don't think you can find a prettier venue, especially at their prices. The catering was by Shack in the Back BBQ. They have special prices with that venue that you can't beat. We had BBQ pork and chicken with AMAZING mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, and scrumptious green beans. The BBQ pork was very good with your choice of sauce. I was told (but didn't try it personally) that the BBQ wasn't very good. For an additional dollar per plate, it included lemonade and maybe something else to drink (I can't remember the details.) It was definitely worth the extra charge not to have to bring in our own drinks and make sure they were cold. The cake and cupcakes were very good. I LOVED the icing, it wasn't too sweet but just sweet enough. I got a mix of vanilla and chocolate. They put beautiful pink flowers on the top of the cake. I was really pleased with how it turned out. The MOST IMPORTANT part of the whole experience was the people that work there. Megan was wonderful to work with getting everything initially set up and managed. Louise did a great job on my flowers and gave me exactly what it asked for. But Janna, the coordinator, was absolutely the best part of the whole experience! She made sure every detail was planned out and ran smoothly. She was available by text or phone anytime I had a question or changed my mind. She was also the officiant at our ceremony and almost brought me to tears. She makes the whole Pop Up package work and knows exactly what she's doing. What a pleasure to work with! Please consider using Rivers Edge for your wedding or any event. As one most often does, I found myself in need of 20 mint julep cups the Sunday before Derby…read more I had come across Events LLC at a wedding show earlier in the year, and I remembered one of their staff members telling me how expansive their warehouse is and how, if you in search of something, they likely have it. So I put this to the test. I called Events earlier the week before, and the lady who answered the phone told me they likely have mint julep cups and she would check. I called back the following day, and much to my delight, they did have real mint julep cups that guests could drink out of. (Some people use mint julep cups for flowers, I now know.) I was sent an invoice. There was a slight change on the price, as the larger cups at $4 each to rent are the cups you drink out of, not the smaller $2 cups I originally chatted with them about. But still, this wasn't a big problem as I was still happy that they even had them at all. I arranged to pick them up the Friday before my event. They were waiting for me, packed up in a box. And then I brought them back the day after my event. The process of turning them in only took a few minutes. I did get to look through their showroom a bit when I visited. I have passed their building so many times on Story Avenue -- it was great to finally get to go in. Especially if you're having a wedding, they have all manner of table settings, from the over-the-top ornate to something a bit more subdued and stately. My wedding is coming up in a couple of months, and I chatted with them a bit about items I'm looking for for centerpieces. They knew what I was describing and said they are looking to buy some soon to add to their collection. The showroom also included large statement pieces and sculptures. I bet their warehouse is a treasure trove of wonders. I'm looking forward to going back and using Events again soon!

And I didn't receive any bills for their medical expenses! ;) Leading up to it, I took up hours and hours and hours of their time picking out exactly what we thought would look good (and they have a really creative team with awesome ideas I would have never thought of). I'm uploading photos because words can't even begin to describe the wonderland they created for us. I would (and I do) recommend Events to anyone planning any kind of party. They have this ginormous warehouse of the craziest (and most gorgeous) stuff for any party. I've also thrown a Halloween and a Circus-themed party with their help, both of which were a huge success. Another reviewer on here (not even from Louisville, incidentally) may have had some hiccups in communication, but I've had nothing but expert help with Events. The ceremony and reception were handled well, the music selection was generally true to what we asked of them, and they dressed well for the wedding. They were timely and made the ceremony crisp and clear for everyone to hear. There were a few speaker issues in the reception with microphones but all in all, it went smoothly. They ensured guests made it where they were supposed to be going (aside from completely abandoning dismissing everyone by row after the ceremony). They also made announcements for important things. Sounds great, right? So why do I have this uncontrollable urge to give them two stars? PartyZone is organized and has a lot to offer. We went with them because of their attention to detail and we've heard they can almost do anything in regards to special effects (which is cool). They're easy to get a hold of, easy to work with, and did I mention organized? I mean my primary reason for choosing them was sheer organization. With that being said, they really dropped the ball on the "attention to detail" that they also pride themselves on. We're going through our cards, post wedding, seeing what everyone has to say and just reminiscing on all the fun we've had with each individual writing us said cards. Then we roll across a card from good old PartyZone - we think "aw that's nice". And then we open it... "she said I do, then he said I do".... Now it is no secret that Sarah and I are obviously two women who participate in a same sex relationship and just got married... as two women. And here's this card that is just distasteful to open up post wedding day after reading all of the sweet stuff people have to say. And then we get this bs card that just completely peeved Sarah (more than it peeved me initially). So we decide to just sit on it for a couple of days and plan on calling them Monday to just talk to them about how disappointing it was to receive that card. Surprisingly enough, I didn't make the call but Sarah did because she really felt passionate about this- as do I. She gets on the phone, talks with the main DJ and he is very apologetic (though that does not take away from the problem that has already occurred) and after some time decides to reassure us with the fact that "one of the DJs at our wedding was gay" and that they've got nothing against the community. I also have straight friends for the record. His resolve is that they'll discuss it in a meeting and not make the same mistake next time. Which is all fine and dandy until you ask them if they even HAVE same sex cards or gender neutral cards and the simple answer is no they do not. So, yes, try harder without the appropriate tools. It honestly makes me wonder how many other people have been subtly offended by this but just not said anything. It's 2018 and having a "he said he said" or a "she said she said" or even a "they said" card can't be that hard. Hell, CVS EVEN HAS CARDS FOR SAME SEX. Or if you don't even have the tools to "personalize the experience" just don't even give out a card. Someone at some point should have caught the dang card and said huh.... two chicks are getting married why does this even say "he"?! I want to give them two stars or three... so badly. But I also am very pleased with the things they did do right. And I guess I'm somewhat pleased with the receptiveness of "wanting to talk about the incident" and the apology. I'm still bitter to be honest. They do decent work but I also want people to be aware of the lack of representation even with the number of same-sex weddings he says they have done. I've been admiring Honest Home since it was Bluegrass Green Co. and moved onto East Market Street…read more I appreciate this store's devotion to green and recycled building products. The store's owner, Sandra, is so approachable, and you can tell she's passionate about this. Alas, I have not yet had a need for their building products. But I have purchased several of the gift items they have in the store -- another reason to check it out! Honest Home carries this fun line of cards with cut-out birds to be used in mobiles. It also has kits to build your own toys, and for Christmas, I particularly admired the ornaments and wood veneer Christmas tree garland. The store gets the veneer scraps from manufacturers, and it would have otherwise been thrown out. Honest Home brings its green mission to Christmas trees as well. And for home products, I've noticed that they carry recycled rugs, compost bins, flooring and countertops, lighting, cleaning products and paint. I am hoping to buy a home soon, so I'm looking forward to getting some green supplies to make over my new home. I'm holding out on the fifth star until then. I'm sure I'll continue to be impressed by Honest Home.
