Stumbled in here by accident while on a road trip through town. If I lived in the area, this would be a dangerous shop for me as it has everything I love... When you walk in you feel like you are in a designer jungle. Gorgeous plants and pottery all around you. So much green, so relaxing, I could live in this store. The array of plants, flowerpots, ceramics, gifts and all that is plant related is simply amazing. I so enjoyed just roaming through the store and discovering all the wonderful things in here. There is a workshop area in the back and apparently I arrived just at the end of a terrarium workshop and as the participants were leaving I got a glance at their results, all of which were awesome. While I have never been to the actual store on Market street, I have ordered from them many times. Their website is so easy to navigate and they coordinate delivery with you, bringing you a package that is carefully packaged and beautifully wrapped. Their plants are super healthy and they have a great variety for all of the plant lovers in your family. Mahonia is an absolutely beautiful shop, the displays are thoughtful and trendy, the flow of the store makes you want to stop and look at everything - it even smells good. However the service is absolutely abysmal. I came in to buy a plant for a sick coworker who is a Plant Person TM. I know nothing about plants so I needed guidance on buying something that would receive very little natural light (our office has windows but the layout is weird). There was about 6 employees there when I walked in. There was also another person, who I could not determine if they were a customer or just a friend of one of the employees, but they took up all of the attention of everyone behind the counter. (I should also add that almost none of the plants had info attached to them, so unless you too are a Plant Person you have no idea what you are buying, or how to care for it). I was in there for almost 20 minutes, and not only was I not greeted, not a single person asked me if I needed help. There were some workers unpacking an order on the sales floor and every now and then one would scoot around me to place something on a shelf - and then practically run back to the boxes. I even hovered around the register waiting to be noticed, or at least get a word in to interrupt the conversation of customer/friend, but no dice. I had just come from work too, so its not like I was dressed like a slob or anything like that. Look, I love being given space and not harassed by sales staff when shopping in a store but for something like this, even a quick "hey, we see you, let us know if you have any questions" would have been so appreciated. As it is I have to find a new place to go buy my coworker that gift. Shame read more

I love plant stores so much that I seek them out like no other! I don't buy plants often but it's fun getting an idea of plants I can add to my collection. Depending on the time of year you come here, you'll see them change out stuff. I saw ficus trees, succulents, cacti, air plants, etc. There's so much! And they've done a great job decorating the store and showing you ways to incorporate your plants into the design of a space. They also sell candles here! There's sweet tea, black pepper, lavender, etc. Not everything smelled good to me but seems like these could be a great gift for someone. The workers here are really nice! Mahonia is an interior and floral design happy place. Large flowers line the walls. Delicate air plants hang down from the ceiling, and succulents dot the space in small pots. And other bits of beauty peek in from around the store. I love love love the pots, vases, terrariums, jewelry and cards that Mahonia carries. Everything fits with the same beauty aesthetic, which is parts refinement and whimsy. And regarding the flowers, I love love love that Mahonia carries big, beautiful blooms that you usually can't easily find sold by the stem. I've been falling in love lately with the blooming, exotic protea flowers from South Africa. You can find them here, as well as ranunculus, cockscomb and peonies. And one more: I love love love the big leafy ferns and larger house plants that you can also buy. Mahonia's flowers and products are unique and seem high quality, but the prices still aren't outrageous. You can also regularly find the owners working the shop, eager to chat with guests. It's one of the highlights to the NuLu neighborhood for me. So, "what is Mahonia?", you're asking. They incorporate them into small & large terrariums, steel buckets and glass vases. This is my favorite store in NULU. If you are at all a fan of plants you MUST check out this store. I call it a real life Pinterest board. The store is filled everywhere you look with gorgeous house plants. They have the widest selection of house plants I've seen by far as well as containers and decor. I am dying to get a couple of their coffee table books on plants. They have ones for all types of plants from flowers to trees to cacti. I also love how they sort the store by color so if you are looking for something with more green hues you simply go to that section. This store is amazing for inspiration as well as picking up that perfect piece to tie your room together. I am in love with their Christmas collection and already have tons of stuff on my wish list. I'm not sure how I missed this gorgeous store on my previous visits to the NuLu neighborhood, but let me tell you, I am glad that I found it on my most recent visit! Stepping into the shop is like walking into a peaceful garden. I felt a sense of happiness and a feeling of being one with nature! The displays are gorgeous and the plants and flowers are lush. There are cut flowers, large plants, terrariums, vases, pots, air plants, succulents and so much more! I was particularly fond of the many air plants and associated items for displaying them. Oh my GAWD Becky. I have recently become interested in keeping the plants on my desk and in my home alive. I went to Mahonia during the Yelp Scavenger Hunt (I see what you did there, community manager) and decided that I needed to go back to get pots of the new plants I was potting. They had succulents, cacti, and other plants there so I knew that I had a high probability of running into someone who either knew what they were talking about or could fake it. I was not disappointed. Not only did they help me find the right and beautiful pots for my specific plants I am re-potting but they also drilled the pots for me. On top of this they had STATIONERY. It was a trap. They also have a wonderful service where they will re-pot your plants for you. I am still going to kill my plants but they'll die in STYLE. read more

This place is amazing! I stumbled into it after being lured by a beautiful fiddle dig leaf. Had been wondering where I could find these particular succulents I fell in love with on a trip to Europe that I saw in an Air BnB. I pulled up the pictures and Natalie knew exaywhat they were, where they were in the store was super delightful and knowledgeable about care. They had the most adorable pots as well as flowers. We had my daughters 16th birthday there. They were so accommodating with making the reservation, suggesting things to do, setup, workshop and clean up. Went very much out of my way to find this place. I was shopping for a birthday bouquet for my mother and this place caught my eye. I live for flower shops with a beautiful ambiance and this one definitely has it! I am not a fan of the location of the shop at all.
