Extremely Disappointing Experience…read more We arrived at VEG with our dog after he was bitten by another dog and had a significant wound on his leg. We stood at the entrance ringing the bell for five minutes before anyone even let us inside. Once inside, we waited approximately 40 minutes, watching other patients being attended to while no one checked on our dog. Eventually, someone examined him and then simply texted us an estimate for approximately $2,300. No one came over to explain the charges or discuss the recommended treatment with us. When I reviewed the estimate, I saw $400 listed as miscellaneous charges and another $350 for stitches--even though we were subsequently told that our dog didn't actually need stitches. At that point, we decided to leave. We immediately drove to VRCC Medical Hospital, where the difference was remarkable. They took care of our dog immediately. The doctor personally came out, examined the wound, and reached a very different conclusion from the medical technician at VEG regarding the treatment he needed. And here's the real kicker: even with stitches and all of the treatment our dog actually received, our bill at VRCC was roughly one-third of VEG's $2,300 estimate. Based on our experience, VEG gave us the impression that the focus was more on generating revenue than providing compassionate, appropriate care for our pet. Do yourself and your pet a favor: skip VEG and drive down the road to a real veterinary hospital. You'll likely get better care, a doctor's evaluation, and save yourself a considerable amount of money.

We had a little bit of a wait until the Vet came over. The Vet was very knowledgeable & kind - she spent a lot of time examining Jazzy, explaining recommended procedures & pricing. She worked within our budget & applied a common sense approach to what services should be done. Everyone we met at VEG was awesome. They really cared about our dog & were eager to help, they were thoughtful & skilled as well. Jazzy ended up just fine & we're happy to have found such a great emergency vet group.

I brought my nine-year-old Pomeranian to Animal Urgent Care after a seizure because his regular…read moreveterinarian had not yet opened. I approved bloodwork to look for metabolic causes of the seizure. The bloodwork was useful and ultimately showed no obvious peripheral cause. What I found frustrating was discovering that an IV catheter had also been placed at a charge of $120. I do not recall consenting to catheter placement; I recall specifically consenting to the bloodwork. No fluids or medications were administered through the catheter during his visit. The medical record states that catheter placement was approved, which does not match my recollection of the conversation. After several hours, the treatment provided consisted of examination/observation, bloodwork and placement of the unused catheter. Hospitalization for continued neurologic observation was recommended, which I declined in favor of taking him home and following up with his regular veterinarian, who knows his neurologic history and current medications. I understand why an emergency clinic might want IV access available in case another seizure occurs. My concern is not that the clinicians considered it medically reasonable; my concern is that a $120 procedure was performed that I do not believe I authorized, and I did not understand until later that the catheter had not been used to administer any treatment. In an emergency, owners are frightened and making decisions quickly. Clear communication about what is being proposed, what it costs, whether it is diagnostic, therapeutic or precautionary, and obtaining explicit consent before proceeding are extremely important. My primary concern is the IV catheter and the lack of consent. The catheter had already been placed before the veterinarian came to speak with me. I was never asked whether I authorized placement of an IV catheter, and I was never told that it would cost $120. What I was specifically asked to authorize was the emergency/triage evaluation and the bloodwork, which I approved. The medical record subsequently states "IVC placement approved." That is not an accurate account of what occurred. I did not approve catheter placement. By the time the veterinarian discussed the diagnostic plan with me, the catheter was already in my dog. It was never used to administer medication or IV fluids. When I decided to take him home, I also had to specifically request that it be removed. Ultimately, I paid $610 and left without any treatment having been administered to my Pomeranian for the seizure--no seizure medication, no fluids, and no other therapeutic intervention. I understand that examination, bloodwork and observation have value, but for our particular situation this emergency visit was not worth the cost or the additional stress to my dog and me. In the future, I will make a seizure-management plan with his regular veterinarian so I know exactly when emergency care is warranted. His regular veterinary clinic opened approximately 40 minutes after I arrived here; in retrospect, I wish I had kept him safely confined and comfortable and waited for his own veterinarian. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this clinic.

She graduated some PT training with them, gave me much anxiety when her legs would hurt her, and they were always the very best at sending her home with me happy and healthy. Sadly, the last time I brought her here, it was too late to save her. Nessie was a Bernese Mountain Dog and she had hemangiosarcoma which was undiagnosed. Her symptoms the morning of her passing was primarliy lethargy, not wanting food, and pale gums. Within moments of me realizing she wasn't doing well, I got her into the car and sped to the hospital. As we were driving her symptoms got worse and I called ahead to ask for immediate help. The team was out front when we arrived and we got her onto a gurnee. I wiped out one of her eye boogers and told her I'd be right there to take care of her. Nessie sadly didn't make it to surgery. Her heart gave out before we could help her. But I know she got the best way to leave this earth as she was barely in pain and she wouldn't have liked the cancer treatment we were planning for her. The team did a really good job helping me through the hardest thing I've ever been through. My one regret is I wish I had woken earlier that day and tried to get her help faster. But sometimes things don't go the way we want. I hope if you're in need of urgent care, you can get your pup here swiftly and allow the team to do their very best. It's a hard job these Vets and the team have, taking care of our sweet angels. I've put off on writing this review as even though it's been three months, still feels very fresh to not have my sweetheart by my side. Thank you team for all your help. She was the very best girl.

Based on her bloodwork, her liver enzymes were heavily elevated. We had her there for about 2 days then got her because we were waiting on lab results and we knew we wanted her at home after a few days. Although it was a pricey visit. She was well taken care of. We still don't know why she didn't want to eat or anything not by the fault of the hospital or anything. Our dog is just a mystery. We had a follow up and liver enzymes had decreased which was a good sign. Our dog is still with us but not sure for how much longer since she is a senior dog who still refuses to eat her kidney food. But we are doing what we can but we are happy with the way our dog was treated here. Everyone was very nice and attentive and answered all of our questions.

On the day of my appointment, I was nervous and scared, not sure if it was the right time. When they told me "Chas" would be my vet, I felt relieved. Because the last pet I euthanized was nicknamed "Chas," so I know the universe was telling me it was the right time and that my other pets were with me to greet her. The earlier bad reviews astonish me, and all I can come up with is since Blue Pearl took over late…read moresummer 2022, things have changed dramatically in the right direction. Here's our story. We moved from Seattle to Albuquerque June 2022. Our 5-yr old German Shepherd had just been diagnosed with end stage liver disease and had begun needing abdominocenteses, a procedure where accumulated fluid is removed from the abdomen. Every 3-5 weeks, 2-4 liters of fluid would accumulate and have to be removed. We had it done at a Blue Pearl facility in Seattle/Kirkland three times before we moved, and it was very stressful for her until the last time when the vet used a different technique and let me be with her, so we could avoid any sedative or drugs, which is imperative when the liver isn't functioning well. We got to Albuquerque, and the first new patient appt at our chosen clinic was 10 weeks out, and the ERs in ABQ didn't perform this procedure. Since we'd had so much good care at Blue Pearl in Seattle/Kirkland, we searched for a Blue Pearl locally. The closest were Phoenix and Denver. We chose to drive the 8 hrs up to Denver. Because fluid accumulation is unpredictable, we can't always go to our vet in ABQ even now. The procedure takes an hour, so the vet can't fit you in between other appts, so we've had to go to Blue Pearl Lakewood 4 times now. Each time we've seen Dr. Jill Bull, and each time her assistants have been remarkable. All the intake staff and medical staff have been professional, efficient, very compassionate, kind... We've interacted with many different support staff on the phone and in person since last July and have only had good to exceptional experiences with everyone. Dr. Bull is everything I look for in a vet. On our first visit, she listened to our 3 prior experiences with the procedure and agreed to use the other technique that had worked so well for our dog the last time in Seattle. She cared more for our dog's well-being than doing it the "easy" way. Dr. Bull is a fantastic vet. She listens, she considers, she's professional, kind, compassionate, clearly skilled in technique, patient and adaptable to situations as they develop. Because our dog was not sedated, and we had to keep her still for an hour, things changed often, and Dr. Bull and her tech (Bree was beyond fantastic) took all in stride and made everything work well. Our dog was calm, and all has gone very well all 4 times despite different circumstances each time. Our 4th visit was Jan 6, 2023, and Dr. Bull told us she'd recently been made facility director for Blue Pearl Lakewood. Finally, the right person for the right job - she'll still be treating patients, so it's a win-win for all. I hate HMOs, but back in Seattle during COVID, Blue Pearl was the only place that allowed me inside with my dog, which is why I chose them over everyone else. They were super strict with COVID protocol, but they knew you can only give exceptional care if the animal's person is directly involved, not just talking on the phone as they wait for hours in their car in the outside parking lot. I have been deeply pleased with Blue Pearl's clearly putting the animal's welfare over their own convenience, and the ensuing care my dog received at Blue Pearl Kirkland/Seattle was excellent as well as at Blue Pearl Lakewood, CO. I can't say enough good about Blue Pearl, wherever I've gone. Maybe now that they've taken over in Lakewood, the bad reviews will only be about money (ER visits are rarely cheap.) And btw, although the fee is higher at Blue Pearl Lakewood ER for the procedure than at my local vet (not an ER in Albuquerque), it's still very reasonable. (It's half what I was paying at Blue Pearl Seattle.)

They got him in for a CT scan quickly, gave us options to keep him comfortable with the breathing issues he was having, and he was scheduled to start radiation within a week. After completing SRT Radiation with Dr. Vernon our cat was in partial remission and breathing much better, and thankfully we had another happy 10 months with him. Dr. Vernon did everything he could to help and was always available when we had questions or concerns. We knew that everyone there really cared about our kitty and how he was doing. When it was unfortunately time to say goodbye to our sweet boy they sent a very thoughtful condolence card that meant a lot to us. The Emergency department was also wonderful when we had to bring our cat in when he wasn't feeling well - there were several emergency visits needed throughout the year, and every vet we met was attentive and knowledgeable. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone needing Oncology or Emergency services for their pet.

Unexpected emergency on a holiday weekend -- they were incredible…read more Had a freak accident on the Fourth of July when my neighbor, who was out front smoking meat and celebrating, offered some fat to my dogs (they eat raw). Somehow, in the chaos, one of my dogs ended up swallowing the medical glove my neighbor was using to feed them--super random and definitely not part of the plan. Most vets were closed for the holiday weekend, but I was so grateful this clinic was open and able to take us in on what I know was a very busy night. They administered apomorphine, and thankfully my dog puked up the glove--huge relief knowing he won't face an intestinal blockage. ‍ They took such good care of him. He was a little nervous going in but listened to their commands and was the very best boy. I was impressed with how kind, professional, and efficient the staff was. I left feeling so much better and able to sleep tonight with peace of mind. Thank you for being there when we needed you most.
