Ordered December 1st and still nothing. Just checked online and my order is still being processed as of December 27th! Back story, I emailed them several times asking what was going on with my order. I was getting anxious about Christmas coming up. Almost 2 weeks ago, they finally emailed me back and said my order was processed and awaiting a courier. In other words, THEY LIED! What a horrible experience. I got worried my order wouldn't arrive on time so I ordered other gifts from Sportchek on December 20th and it arrived promptly on December 23rd. I would give 0 stars if I could. Purchased a down coat from here in summer but obviously didn't wear until it got cold. After 1 month the coat ripped and Sporting Life refused to exchange or offer any help or compensation. Basically did not care and I dealt with different stores and managers who all didn't care. This review is about their online store. I ordered something online from them early December. Within days, I received an email saying my order was cancelled because the item was out of stock, even though they were clearly still selling the item on their website as in-stock. Several days later, I received a package containing someone else's order! I've had to send it back, paying a fortune in postage in the process because the item was opened and could not be returned to sender as the customer service had told me it could. I'm not much of a sportsy person. I mean, I like exercising and walking, but I'm kinda an amateur at everything and anything sporty. Sporting Life is the store for me, because they make everything look so good, so much so that I just want to become a sporty person. This Sporting Life is a cool shop. It's a fair size, stretched out on two storeys. They have a collection of bikes upstairs which is what we went to look at. They had a fair size snowboard stock, as well as shoes, clothes and other sporty things. I like this sporting life much better than the one on Avenue Road, it's more wholesome. The best part of trekking to SL for a coat was stumbling upon Higher Ground down the street. If you want a quality coat based on real, specialized knowledge, go to Higher Ground and talk to the owner. Super friendly. Went to Sporting Life due to their wide range of women's winter coats. Problem is the winter-wear staff don't know anything about their products and sort of point you towards big racks to just start aimlessly look. They did read a couple labels and ask another staff member, but they were no help. The manager was apologetic but also not great. Their delivery service left an unattended package in open view without any notification to myself, containing $200 worth of merchandise, and the company refuses to refund me for products I never saw or touched. I am so blown away by how poor the service has become at Sporting Life. I don't usually take the time to post reviews but felt the need to let people know what a horrific experience I just had. I have shopped there for many years and they always prided themselves on how service oriented that are. I stopped in to purchase a ski helmet and literally stood in the hard good section for 30 minutes without one person inquiring if i needed help. I saw one person behind the service desk and that's it. Finally, I asked two sales people from the soft good section if they could help or find someone. They said no one was available. I spoke to the Store Manager who seemed more concerned about the next pair of socks she was going to sell then helping me. I decided to walk the two block north to Sign of the Skier where I was met with a smile as I went in and five minutes later walking out with the helmet I was after. If you are looking for ski equipment, I highly recommend you head directly to Sign of the Skier where your experience will be so much better. read more

A week before Christmas and a week after I placed the order, Sporting Life sent me an email stating the order, which had been confirmed, was now cancelled. Shipping takes too long, and then I got a broken open box and my item still with a security tag on it, now that is sent them an email it the answer was got to one of our stores and they will remove the tag for you... so helpful, it's just bad costumer service. Do not buy anything online from sportinglife. They are disorganized beyond belief. There was glitches in my check out, sourcing issues after the check out, unreachable customer support and when I did get a hold of them, they lied to me and were not helpful. I purchased a bike, a bike fender and several other smaller items, online on April 14. On the 17 th, I received an automated email from customer service, saying that my order is delayed due to sourcing issues. It did not say what item was having the sourcing issue. I called to find out which item was the issue. If it was one of the miscellaneous items I had purchased, I would have said "forget the smaller item" just send the bike.That's what I was actually shopping for. After waiting on hold for over an hour, customer service was unable to tell me what the specific issue was, but I was supposed to hear from someone within a couple of days. I did not receive a call, but 8 days later they sent me the same generic "sourcing Issues" email. I sent an email asking for some details. I get nothing back, except a week later on May 8th, the same generic email that I've received twice already. I send another email asking for help. After getting nothing whatsoever for two more weeks, I call. I wait on hold for over an hour and ten minutes before I get customer service on the line. He tells me that his colleague replied to two of my emails. These emails are not in my inbox or junk mail. I send him a screenshot of my sent folder to show that there are no replies. He tells me they had to cancel the order because too much time has passed and they no longer have authorization to bill me. He says to repurchase the items. Only problem is the bike is sold out. He says due to my inconvenience, they can offer me a discount on my next bike. I ask for how much and he says he can only tell me after I choose a new bike. "Are you bleeping serious!?", I thought. But ok, I hang up, go on line and two other bikes catch my eye. I email him and ask about the discount. No reply until the next day and surprise surprise, the bikes are sold out by the time they get back to me. I select a 4th bike and he says we can give you 10% off. I was already getting 10% off the first bike as this is their promo for first time online purchases. I ask if his 10% is in addition to the 1st purchase discount, and he tells me that discount doesn't apply to bikes. I send a copy of my invoice from the initial purchase which shows the promo being applied to the bike. He tells me that is a glitch. So after 7 weeks of hassle and picking four different bikes, I finally say screw this place. Glitch from the get go, sourcing issues, unreachable customer support, and when I finally do reach them, they lie about emailing me and weren't even helpful. Never again! read more

I've been going through a very annoying process trying to purchase a bike online with your company. I will say that the person I've been dealing with on your telephone support has been great but this whole process has been extremely disappointing. April 29th, I purchased a bike and helmet online, charges went through on my account. May 2nd, I get an email saying the delivery will be delayed, citing "sourcing" issues for the bike but the helmet seems fine. Fine, I figure it's back ordered. On Star Wars Day I notice the entire invoice is reversed on my card for both the bike and the helmet. This is immediately followed by a charge for the helmet. I call. And call. I'm told instead that for whatever reason, your company tried to charge the amount for the bike a second time but to no avail. I say, okay just leave it be, I'll reorder the bike later when I can transfer funds to that card. I also ask for the charges for the helmet to be reversed as well via email so I can just generate a whole new order.. That didn't happen and I let it go for a few days until I had time to sit down and sort through this. I then notice on May 13th that I've now been charged for the bike again without anyone actually asking me about this. WTF? So, I'm chill, spin up a spliff and call support and basically decide because the fellow I was talking to was so nice to proceed with the purchase but I want to know what the status of the bike is. Backorder? What's up? He calls Yonge street store and says he will call me back the next day which he does. So now the bike is there at Yonge street, they;ve shipped the helmet but now they aren't doing delivery so I would have to go pick up the bike if I want it. I'm kind of okay with that because I really want this bike and now I'm on a mission. (No offer of a credit or anything just for my inconvenience, maybe throw in a rear rack or shitty water bottle, but whatever). But now he says I have to reorder the bike but they still haven't reversed the charges on my card so I can actually proceed with the order and that may take a few days. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Now I don't really want the bike because I'm irritated but you've sent me the helmet already. Can somebody do something? FFS. BY the way, whoever Ben is at support, he's way underpaid. I'm posting here because I really don't want to sit on hold for another 45 minutes after already spending about two hours in total on hold and sorting this out over the phone. Purchased an item for my son. They sat with the order for 3 days and shipped it from Alberta when the item is available in near store. 10 days passed, the item is still not arrived. It's family owned business and I don't think they want to survive in this industry. Worst online shopping experience! It's been more than 6 months passed since lockdown but they still use Covid situation as an excuse for delay when all other retailers are doing everything they can to maintain the customers. By far the worst online shopping experience compared to all other stores I've shopped online, e.g. Sport Chek, Eddie Bauer, Banana Republic, MEC you name it. Ordered 7 items in May charged to my SL gift card, then an email saying 2 of the items are out of stock. To this day, more than 2 months later I have yet to receive refund on my gift card. SL kept saying the items are unavailable and won't be charged to me, yet the charges were already deducted from my gift card upon checked out and never credited back. I purchased a pair of boots from their website. When I got the email confirmation notice, it indicated the wrong size on the order form. I called them right away but was told the order had gone to shipping - they couldn't make any changes at that point and just refuse or return the item when received. I love this store, my Father was sports professor..and subsequently, I really enjoy...buying sports gear. This is the #1 place where all of my white friends come to buy clothes which identifies them to others of their own heritage. Abercrombie, North Face, Canada Goose and etc. The store is packed with merchandise, and it's very clean. There are sales persons at every department, and sometimes they stick to only one brand. There are two floors, the second catering exclusively to women. There are clothes for every almost every sport, for every age. I come here to stock up on my tennis balls, and most recently I was here looking for a winter jacket for my trip to China. I came here with Catherine, a girl whom I went to the same high school, and the person I see most often when walking my adorable foreverlove poodle woodle. We rifled through every jacket in the store, and she became quite frustrated with how I was apparently '100 times' worse than a girl when it comes to shopping. I finally gave in, and ended up in the Canada Douche section. I bumped into a friend of my in the section, and neither of us were able to successfully pretend not seeing one another because...well because it was Canada Douche. I ended up getting the Chilliwack Jacket, but after some bald--slightly old--salesman harrassed me about other brands available. The conversation I had with him was beyond awkward, and he was very stubborn with his opinions regarding what exactly was a good winter jacket. The salesman for the geese was very helpful, but I could tell I was pushing the limits of his patience with my indecisiveness. I was very unhappy about being an XL, but the jackets were so short I had no choice. The Large fitted my arms perfectly. It cost me $700, which was the most I ever paid for anything trendy. AND I had to buy Catherine Starbucks afterwards. She demanded this from me for putting up with me for almost two hours. I'm Sorry....I don't get paid $700 each hour, I had to pretending I'm being frugal okay! There are always a million cashiers at the location, even when there are no customers. There is a parking attendant on busy days directing traffic in and out of the parking lot. The location is by far the best in the city, the it well stocked with merchandise and the staff are always very helpful. I came here once to buy a Tiger Woods hat during the time of his scandal, I got a few looks. The Canada Goose jacket ended up being a very good purchase, and it saved my life during my 3 hour climb on the Great Wall of China.....yesterday! =D read more

This is specific to the online site... I just received roughly my 10th order from Sporting Life over the past 3-4 years. Typically, the shipping updates are slow and often the Canada Post notifications don't even show up. With that said, the sale prices found on the Sporting Life website are rivaled only by The Last Hunt (in Canada at least). No other website regularly has quality brands such as Filson, Fjallraven, or Woolrich on sale, let alone at clearance prices. In all my time ordering from them I've only ever had one item cancelled and that was a pair of boots from the 70% shoe bin. It was a minor inconvenience and my money was refunded shortly after. At the end of the day, if you're looking for a website that will be responsive to every email and provide up-to-date shipping information, Sporting Life probably isn't for you. However, if you're simply looking for an awesome price on high quality gear, you can't get much better than this. read more

I am looking for a warm jacket, NOT FOR SHOW, to stay warm, especially when its -10, - 15 C degrees outside. i asked staff to help me out and show me their warmest jackets (price range 600$ - 1000$) ...shouldn't be a problem ..... WRONG i was told that Canada Goose Kensignt parka will keep me warm......WRONG. just went outside to test it out, 0 C degrees outside (and it says it can handle -10/ -20 C) .....my arms were cold after being outside for just 5-7mints, and then i started to get cold. When i was in the store making the purchase, i was concerned by parka's thin layer and i was told that it will keep me warm, and nothing to worry about. this jacket/ parka is only good for fashion...... nothing else..... i am returning this jacket. I put an online order 4 days ago for 5 items; the order still says processing, and each day I get an email that they are out of stock on one of the items. I tried calling them several times every day, no luck, the phone rings and rings then goes to voicemail, not even a waiting queue. My suggestions is to get a better stock count system so you know what you have in stock, get a better processing and shipping system so my order ships a bit faster, and get a better call center phone system so I can reach you. read more

Sporting Life sucks.......... Not only are the employees too cool for school, they also look bored and could careless as to what a customer wants or needs. The employees biggest concern is and has always been.......how many of my numbered stickers can I put on your merchandise before you get to the checkout cashier. I am not sure as to which school of management sporting life adheres to. The managers could careless ( Wesley ) as to whether you stay a customer or not so long as they feel that they are right and you the paying customer are wrong. Phenomenal customer service - kudos I placed a reserve on the phone and went to pick up my order after work. They had apparently sold it to someone. Despite that, they offered to call their supplier for another, but one of the THREE associates helping me procured a similar item, which means I didn't make the one hour commute here from downtown for nothing! I was able to get info.. "The reason for delayed shipping is that they are unable to locate one item"...(strike#2) and when it finally arrived after being few days behind the Jacket has still a electronic tag on it (strike#3)...called their hotline as she suggested to send it back to have the tag taken out. What an inconvenience! I purchased a pair of Hunter boots which were supposed to be red but the web site only shows the picture not the colour. When I received the boots the they were bright pink. Contacted the company and was informed that there would be a $10 restocking fee even though the colour is not communicated on the web site - same for all Hunter boots at Sporting Life. Don't buy on line from this company they don't give you the information you need to make an informed purchase and you don't know what you will get from them. I ordered online on Cyber Monday. Got a great deal, both items 50% off sale item + additional 20% off and free shipping. 10 days later I called to ask why status was still "processsing". Seems they oversold one of the two items, so they didnt have it. I asked them to send the 2nd item. It never arrived. I called after 10 more days went by, and they had cancelled the entire order. I had to kill some time around 8 on an Thursday and stopped by Sporting Life. Yes it's higher end and yes parking can be crazy (if you go anywhere good parking ain't a cinch) but there are designer deals to be had and as they have been know for (since my parents shopped with us there in the 80's) friendly helpful staff, young and old alike and all smiles.
