Ethical dilemma. It was the end of the month, funds were running low and I was in need of some walking boots. To wait till next month's pay, or to go to Sports Direct thereby selectively overlooking the recent newspaper expose revealing that said business pay below the minimum wage and essentially treat their staff like slaves?! (I'm of the 'instant gratification' generation, so alas to my great shame I opted for the latter...) Given the appalling conditions the staff work under, imagine my surprise when a lad wearing the, er, 'distinctive' Sports Direct uniform came bounding up to me as soon as I entered and asked if he could help. He then patiently took me through the different walking boots available and answered my various questions. It was better customer service than I could have expected in a much higher end outdoorsy camping type shop - and the fact he found me a pair of waterproof boots for £17.99 was all the better! So thumbs up for this place though the layout is a tad confusing/overstuffed (trademark Sports Direct!) and the fact it's basement level does give it a bit of an airless feel... The staff don't even see daylight it would appear, which makes the helpful lad's customer service all the more commendable. read more

Worst shopping experience ever. Staff not only unhelpful, but downright rude and dismissive. You are better off just avoiding this place, and all of this chain alltogether. We tried calling several other stores to find what we were looking for and none of the stores answered their phones. When we inquired with the staff at this store about that, I was arrogantly told "we aren't obligated to answer the phone." Wow, what a fantastic policy there... Pity one cannot leave zero stars on yelp. read more

For a Sports Direct branch, the one in Westfield is usually pretty tidy and has a lot of choice on offer. The service may be a little slow sometimes, and things are never in the right place, but you really can't argue with the discounts on offer. Not my favourite shop, but if want cheap sports clothing, this is a good place to start. read more
