Buyer Beware. They may not be a scam, but it sure feels like one…read more Please note that this is only my experience and does not reflect the people that work at Joint Effort. Everyone is really nice and they do a good job of making you feel comfortable. However: The entire process from start to finish is a bit of pseudo-science. You are first given a free book to read about decompression therapy and then are required to get an MRI to become a eligible patient. Turns out I had four herniated disks which just so happen to be eligible for decompression therapy. I was then quoted a figure of $7,000 for the entire 30 session process. Shortly afterwards I was exposed to dozens of alleged testimonials about how successful the process was. I figured that it would be worth the investment so I went ahead and started a payment plan with them. The process itself is a bit lackluster - you are literally laying down as a machine pulls at the bottom of your skull a centimeter or so for about 20 minutes. You are also given ice packs to take home with you and you're told multiple times to make sure to ice the neck and lower back area at least 5 times a day. For the most part, the pain started to go away although there were some times when I wake up with excruciating pain for a day which eventually went away. Fast forward 30 sessions later, and I noticed my pain started to return. However, the only thing that changed was that I was getting a bit lazy with the icing of my neck. And then it hit me, maybe it's the ice that is doing all the work and not the stretching. Either way - I asked for a copy of my statement for tax purposes and it turned out that $7k quote was a lie. I was charged $255 per session and my bill came out to $8,950 (~35 sessions). To summarize, nothing against the people that work here, but it seems sketchy. I wouldn't recommend unless you've tried surgery already and it didn't work.

The up front payment of $7,500 big red flag…read more My husband went in for approximately 50 sessions and his pain was still not resolved. He was told that he can continue treatment as long as needed without an added cost. Unfortunately that was NOT true. Jonathan communicated to my husband on what would be his last session that if he continues to come in he will have to pay. Nothing more to be said.

Updating my review with retrospective of having had PT at a several places following my surgery. I…read morestill think HSS Westchester is overrated but if you find a reasonable therapist there, it's okay (just don't pick Chery Sun). They are high volume so you may feel like a number but they try their best and you do get the full 20-30 minute with a PT compared to other chains where you may be with the assistant for half or more of the visits. They do have all the technology you could want (as do many other spots) and their scheduling system isn't the most client friendly and kind of a pain. But you eventually learn to navigate it and work with the (sometimes less than friendly) front desk staff. Overall, you can get your PT here if you want, just be aware of the advantages and disadvantages I mentioned, which may or may not apply to you at all. I did think that (like in many NYC area locations), the number of jerky therapists/staff is higher here than in other places (say Boston/DC)- but that's something you have to deal with regularly if you live in this area. Also be aware of the fact that in my opinion, PTs occasionally can make your orthopedic issues worse/injure you, especially if you get a PT who is not careful and who does not listen well to your feedback (it happened to me at a different location). This is a healthcare system wide issue and i did not get injured at HSS PT, however had I not changed PTs it may have happened. If you ever feel excessive pain during your PT and your PT does not seem to listen or take it seriously it may be in your best interest to get a new PT to avoid possibly injury.

I went for all their fancy tests. I spent five hours in that hospital to be told we cannot touch you because you have arthritis. They should have told me when I made a telephone appointment for their services. To top it off. I asked them if they could cut my leg above the arthritis, imagining the girl running with an artificial leg. " No, no," they said without hesitation. "We have another group of specialists that does that." Goodbye and walk away. They are quadruple-arm bandits in fancy respectable suits. I trusted them to help me but they helped themselves out of my ignorance. Just watch out, they will dazzle you with what they claimed as #1. Ask questions and more questions.

DO NOT EXPECT FOLLOW UP CARE…read more The cascade of issues began with my 2-year-old having to wait for OVER AN HOUR in a small room despite having a 9:30am appointment, which was quite challenging for a young child. I was eager to dismiss the wait time as Dr. Rivera was kind and attentive, however the continued lack of professionalism wholly overshadowed that. There was ZERO follow up for my son. Despite sending messages to the office regarding a prior authorization for his orthotics 3 weeks ago and again 1 week ago, I still have not received any response. Their lack of follow-up and neglect has delayed my son's care for over 3 weeks, and has left us with no choice but to find another doctor. Perhaps non-surgical patients are not a priority to this office. I'm sharing this feedback in hopes that they address these issues and work towards ensuring a more positive experience for patients and their families. As a healthcare provider I was shocked, and if I were Dr. Rivera I'd be embarrassed.

I came to Burke after having two complete knee replacements just three days apart. I knew the rehabilitation was going to be a challenge, and from my very first session I felt as though I had not just a physical therapist, but my own personal coach who was completely invested in getting me back to my life. Hugo is intense--in the very best possible way. "Come on, you can do more!" was something I heard often. He pushed me when I needed to be pushed, encouraged me when I needed encouragement, and somehow always seemed to know the difference between the two. At the same time, he was extraordinarily observant. On the occasions when I pushed too hard and irritated my knee, he could see it immediately. He listened, adjusted the exercises, and never pushed through something that didn't feel right. Most days I actually walked out of PT better than I walked in. What impressed me perhaps more than anything was how closely Hugo paid attention to me as an individual. If my appointment was at 9:00, at 9:00 the door would open and there he was with a big smile. He would let me walk ahead of him toward the treatment area while he watched my gait. By the time I reached his table, I sometimes felt that he already knew how my knees were doing before he even asked me. At the end of the session, he would watch me walk again to see what had changed. I've experienced physical therapy elsewhere where a therapist was working with several patients at once, moving back and forth between them. My experience with Hugo was completely different. I had his attention. He watched, corrected, encouraged and challenged me throughout the session. I truly felt like an athlete working one-on-one with a coach. One moment probably says more about Hugo than anything else. Earlier in my recovery he had told me I wasn't quite ready to ride a bicycle yet. Eventually he thought I was getting close and suggested raising the seat and giving it a try. At my next appointment, I excitedly told him the story of getting back on my bike and how much it meant to me. Hugo held out his arms and said, "Look--you gave me goosebumps." That told me everything. This wasn't just another patient completing another exercise program to him. He genuinely shared in my happiness and my progress. I also want to mention Eric, who treated me for one session when Hugo wasn't available. Eric was wonderful as well--kind, knowledgeable and encouraging--and my experience with him reinforced the quality of the entire Burke outpatient team. Today I'm walking miles, riding my bike, using the elliptical, swimming, and continuing to improve. There is still work to do, particularly with stairs, but when I think about where I started and where I am now, I'm incredibly grateful. Hugo, thank you for pushing me, listening to me, celebrating with me and caring about my recovery as much as you did. You didn't just help rehabilitate two new knees--you helped me get back to doing the things I love. Five stars simply aren't enough.
