Brandy was the star of our last stay! She was so kind and helpful and refreshed our towels and bathroom daily! We booked 4 nights and designated a first floor room as the others were booked. The entrance is in the alley way. The key stuck in the door each time we tried to use and it getting in was difficult. The air conditioning is a window unit. There is also an iodizer that was running that sounded like a vacuum cleaner. Bathrooms are older. We didn't have an actual bathroom vanity/sink and used the kitchenette sink. The walls were pretty thin, and we could hear our neighbors often and chatter from the alley and parking lot. The beds were comfy and the room was clean! The restaurant was honestly strange. It's a steakhouse but has a lot of pub seating and tables cannot be moved. Prices were reasonable but food is served in diner style baskets with paper (not a steakhouse vibe). Severs were kind but unorganized. My salad had a lot of wilted lettuce, but baked potato and steak kabob was good. We wouldn't go back.

We had no idea where our room was. My husband looked in the restaurant to the left and saw a girl and asked if she could tell us where our room and the elevator was. She said there is no elevator and said go out back behind the hotel and take the stairs. She was obviously busy with the restaurant. Our room was upstairs and you have to go out the back of the building and climb stairs. It was pouring rain and dark out. We had a cooler, luggage and hanging dress clothes to lug up the stairs. We got in our room and my husband said $191.00 a night for this!!! We couldn't get the A/C or heat to work in the living room. There is a tiny remote and we couldn't figure it out. This must have been an old attic that was turned into rooms using blonde pine. The floors are so tilted and uneven it was hard to walk, it gave you a drunk feeling. There is a sign on your door that you can turn over that said something like clean our room so I turned it to that but no one ever came to provide fresh towels or clean the rooms. We were given 2 rough towels, 2 washcloths and a hand towel. The "closet was just a short bar to hang your clothes on. Luckily we brought some of our clothes on hangers because there was only 1 tiny hanger and it was for pants. The only other places to put clothes were in the one drawer of the nightstand. There is a picture of the inside of the drawers. There is a metal stand to put your luggage on but it was so rickety that it kept leaning so we couldn't use it. When we went to leave we couldn't get the door to lock. We have a Schlage code lock at home but it isn't like this one. I called both numbers on the sheet of paper and both went to voice mail. I texted one number, Brandy, and told her we were having problems getting the door to lock. She said instructions were on the sheet of paper. I still couldn't get it to lock. We had to leave for our function, when we got back the door was still unlocked. I texted her and told her that but never heard back. How can you run a hotel with no one there??? Two other rooms were rented by friends and family. When I asked what they thought of the hotel they just laughed. When we checked out of our room there was no one at the desk.

I was greeted warmly, given helpful info by the desk staff person. Several utility contractors appeared to be using the HIE as their home base and were gathered in the lobby swapping stories and relaxing over beverages. The rooms were high end for an HIE and featured a room with the bathroom to be right on entry, a sliding barn door separating the bedroom from the bathroom and noise from the hallway., a chaise lounge, office set up and large screen TV with a king size bed which was very comfortable. The bathroom had a nighttime light feature and a great shower set up with a sliding glass door. I must say as a frequent traveler this hotel beats some of the more pricier places I've stayed. I skipped the free breakfast so can't comment on it. When in Hannibal MO, do your self a favor and stay here, it's well worth the extra 5 minutes you will spend driving back into town to check out Mark Twain stuff or whatever it might be that brings you to Hannibal

We had roaches!!! Minimal housekeeping means they don't even come in and take all the trash, they just grab the old towels and bring in clean ones (hopefully - eco could mean they just dried wet ones in the dryers and brought them out for re-use). The floor felt like it had not been cleaned in ages on my bare-feet which were dirty by the time I went to bed after I had only walked on the room's floor! The bed was so tall you had to do gymnastics to get on it. They say they are eco minded so I think they use the grey water idea for one time our toilet water was literally yellow and no one had peed in it, so I guess someone had peed in the shower and it ended up in my toilet. The lid on the toilet was too small so you were constantly sitting on the bowl part as well. Also being eco minded meant instead of soap being sanitarily wrapped in it's own unopened paper and small bottles of shampoo etc, you got opened bottles of not full to almost empty products, all of which numerous other people had used and perhaps done God knows what with it and the pump handles were probably never cleaned. You could not even use the sink for the fixtures were so ill fitting, you had to use a cup to rinse your hands, otherwise you were constantly hitting the underneath crevice of the counter and you just knew it had not been touched by "housekeeping" since the hotel was built. There is no restaurant only a breakfast hallway which is sectioned "off limits" except 6-8am. The laundry room which you had to do yourself smelt like sewage. I didn't even shower for it was unusable, not only did it have no grab bars or anything, you had to turn backwards to reach the products about three feet from the shower head. Someone said this hotel was new - the shower was rusty. So after having to pole vault onto the bed I left unshowered, in dirty clothes for I did not want to use products someone may have goobered in that stank to high heaven, or launder my clothes in a sewer. We had planned to stay two nights but left after the first one. Very over priced and don't believe a word of the good reviews. And I didn't even say a word about all the clashing decor...

The rooms are always immaculately clean, ample parking, comfy beds and close to major stores, gas, and food options. The manager, Teresa, is so incredibly sweet and obviously puts so much care and love into this spot. It's clear she sets the tone for the whole place!! Hannah at the front desk is also always super efficient and accommodating. When there was a tornado warning, Cheyenne was so comforting and brought some (much needed) humor and levity to the situation (as an out of state-r, I'm not used to Missouri weather!!). Overall, one of my favorite spots I've ever stayed in. They treat their guests like family. 10/10 recommend.
