I stayed here a couple nights while on a work trip. Even though there was a line with only one…read moreemployee, checking in was fairly swift. Because the room was booked and paid in advance by my employer, she asked for my last name and driver's license. It's a large room. What I didn't like were all the insects in the room, congregated on the windows and curtains mostly. Flies and lady bugs, more than half a dozen. Some were dead. I like lady bugs, I felt sorry for them, but I couldn't find out how they got in or how to get them out. One was even on the bed comforter. That's the part that lowers my score. At least clean up the dead ones. Aside from the flying insects, the suite reminds me of a studio apartment. It has a king size bed; a sectional couch with a couple foot stools; a flat screen on top of a dresser; desk; and kitchenette. The kitchenette consists of a full size refrigerator; dishwasher; large microwave; countertop stove; coffee maker; and toaster. The kitchen cabinets are filled with ceramic plates; ceramic bowls; wine glasses; glass cups; ceramic mugs; mixing bowls; a glass measuring cup; and salt and pepper in glass shakers. There are even metal utensils in the drawers. All the makings of a home away from home. There's plenty of parking behind the building. When it's quiet, you can see and faintly hear the highway in the background. I rented a car, but the hotel offers shuttle service. There's a book where you write down your room number. The shuttle picks you up and drives you to posted locations.

Staybridge Suits is a very nice and well designed hotel. There's a lot of positive things I can say…read moreabout this hotel. But, there are also some negative aspects. I'll speak about the positive ones first. Then, I will get to the not so ideal elements. As anybody who's ever stayed at one of the IHG Hotel Suites locations understands, this hotel is made up around the fact that it's a place to live, more than just stay. Meaning, each room, or suites as they call them, comes complete with a large refrigerator, a small stove, a microwave, and all of the cooking utensils: glasses, dishes, silverware, and all of that kind of stuff you would need to create a great meal. Personally, I did not stay at this hotel for that reason. Nor have I ever stayed at a hotel with plans to make my own meals. But, particularly for families, and people who are undercover chefs, this place could be a great place to stay and create an excellent hotel room dining experience. Other than just the culinary focus of the rooms, in this hotel the rooms are very large, very well designed, and they have all the expected necessities that you may want. They have large drawers, so you can put all your stuff in them, a very nice closet, and, of course, a large expanse of bathroom. All of these elements, at this hotel, was All Good. No complaints. The problem I have with this hotel, and it is a big one, is that when I checked into my room, there was a massive amount of flies flying around. Plus, there was a number of ladybugs. It was kind of like a horror movie. I checked... I tried to open the windows, but there's absolutely no way to let those flies out. So, I have no idea how they got in there. My guess, and it is only a guess, is that someone must've opened the lower windows, that have an opening crank on them, to let some natural air in the room, and taken off the screens to clean them or something. Because that's the only way I could see that amount of flies and ladybugs could've gotten in. Now ladybugs, I have no problem with. Flies, on the other hand, nobody wants those things flying around in your room, particularly at night. I had to personally kill at least eight of them, just to stop them from swarming the room. This is completely unacceptable! I believe anybody would have the same reaction to this. Again, I don't know how they got in there, but I do know they were in there. And, I do know I was the one who had to kill them. Unacceptable, unacceptable, unacceptable!!! If it wasn't for that that, I would've given this hotel a much higher rating. The management of this hotel really needs to look into what their staff is doing, and manage them much more precisely. Because I'm sure any guest would've had the same reaction as I did. I will say that on the second night, the housekeeping staff did clean up the dead flies from the windowsill, and the remaining ladybugs. But, as I think we all understand, I should not have had to deal with the flies and the ladybugs upon my arrival on the first night. Other than that, and hopefully you don't have flies flying around in your room, this is an okay hotel to stay at. Yes, it is a bit noisy. I do know that they have tried to keep it more quiet by putting in thick glass and sound damping drapes, but in the later afternoon and into the evening, and especially in the early morning, you do get a lot of street noise. Just FYI. Overall, that's the story. Make of it what you will.

The issue for me and some of my peers was the room. The room I had was an upgrade with a king bed. As I entered the room, a strong smell hit me. I could not discern if it was mold or chemical in nature. Extremely strong in the bathroom, that looked clean. What it was, it was strong. In no less than 30 minutes in the room my lungs started to feel wrong. An hr on it I had to go to the lobby and ask for another room. It was taken care promptly. Got the same room just under the one I had but in the 1st room. Same smell. Less strong, but same smell. Went back to ask for another as I was not feeling that well at that point. and because my room was an upgrade that was not available ended going to a 3rd room with two beds. Luckily this one, that was on the other side of the hotel, finally worked. For one of my peers the AC in her room was not working. This was reported and she was told someone will go to her room. They never did so she ended up opening the A/C to notice there was something wrong with the wiring so she ended up fixing the ac on her own. No one ever showed up. No one.. The experience, needless to say, was not good. And to be honest I or we, my company peers, will not be staying in this facility the next time. That my room and the next one was unusable, that the AC in another room was not working and that no one was ever sent to get this fixed is inexcusable. Rooms should be confirmed ready for service. Both issues would have been obvious and both of the rooms I was given, should have not been offered. More when two of them could impact the guest's health. I hope that this will catch someone's attention. Criticism can be a gift. A motivator for improvement. Hopefully this will.

Two separate rooms, bedroom and front/living room. The couch has a pull-out bed which I used. The king bed was comfortable, but a basic mattress. The bedroom was oversized and has plenty of room, includes a desk and dresser, but no closet. The closet is located in the front room and is of basic size, and did include an ironing board and suitcase stand. The living room couch pulled out into one of the most uncomfortable beds I've ever slept on, and I was a corpsman that served with the marines. Many nights I slept on the ground, and that is frankly welcomed over doing another night on this poor excuse for a bed. It was a very thin mattress that sat on some of the sharpest and noisiest springs that has ever been created. It sounded like a deaf person creating the worst symphony known to mankind. Don't make the mistake of moving, or you may puncture your liver or spleen. The furniture is what you need expect when staying at a hotel. Square and basic. Picture "chair from a hotel" and that's what we have in the room. On a higher note, the room came standard with a microwave and fridge, fee for use. Complimentary water, and a coffee machine (single use, similar to a Keurig). The hotel offers a Continental breakfast downstairs that comes with scrambled eggs and sausage links. They have a waffle machine to create your own waffles. Some bagels and the rest was prepackaged items like mini muffins and pastries. The eggs and sausage were similar to what we used to serve in the military, it will break your fast, but don't expect anything fancy. At the front desk, they do have a refrigerator with sodas and water in it that you can charge your room or pay cash, they also have four kinds of chips and some candy, but the selection is very basic. Madison does seem to have a decent variety of food that you can just DoorDash to your room, which we did over the weekend. Directly across from the hotel, they have a decent pub style restaurant a Panera bread, sushi, and a Mexican restaurant, as well as a grocery store. In the same shopping center you will also find a Lego store! Since the selection of snacks is very limited, it's very easy to walk across the street to the grocery store and get yourself a KitKat or whatever rolls your fancy. All in all for the price of the hotel, I would say this was a wonderful stay, even though I can barely walk after sleeping on that pullout mattress. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to any of our friends.

But their local shuttle came in clutch for the ride there! Didn't love the front desk person with glasses and no name tag talk to us condescendingly about the shuttle for after our show. We weren't demanding it, we were asking what to do about potentially getting it because we didn't know how long the show would be. Aidan at check in was helpful and efficient, though I'm not quite sure what was an "upgrade" about our room. It was certainly nice, but judging from the pictures on the website, definitely still just a "room" and not a "suite," as there was no couch. The decor was very lovely and everything was in excellent condition, too. The bathroom was perfect for two people and the shower was excellent as well. The elevator could be a little slow, so if you can, consider taking the stairs as you'll definitely save some time especially if it's busy. The light up sign as you exited the elevator showing the time of day was very cool and I enjoyed getting to see it lit up in two different combinations. Gym is in great condition and very spacious, too! All in all, a worthy entry in terms of Madison hotels.

Normally it's much more reasonable, though. Parking was a little confusing at first since it's not super clear where to go, but when I called the hotel, the staff was friendly and explained we could park in the garage behind the building for $20 a night through the hotel. Super easy once we found it, and I liked that you can use your key card for in-and-out access. Check-in was smooth and I loved they have a texting option if you need anything during your stay, very convenient! The room itself was clean, fresh, and had a few little surprises. I genuinely thought I was hearing music from the other room when I turned on the shower, but it turns out there's a bar in the shower that plays music when the water hits it, such a relaxing, spa-like touch. The TV even had a personalized welcome screen with my name, and as a rewards member, the late checkout was a super nice perk. The robes were clean, cozy, and perfect for lounging while getting ready. Location-wise, it's perfect! Right downtown and close to plenty of bars, restaurants, the capitol, and the Orpheum Theatre where we were going to. Uber and Lyft were easy to get, but the hotel also offers a complimentary shuttle service within a 3-mile radius, which is such a nice option. We didn't get to use it this time since it was first come, first serve, and even with scheduling the shuttle, timing didn't work out for us with their logistics and the game, but I love that they have it as a complimentary option. Security felt great too, the doors lock after a certain hour and require a key card for entry. In-room amenities were solid: a Nespresso for coffee, a spacious antique-style fridge, and the bed and pillows were extremely comfortable! I slept so well. There were a couple minor hiccups, the streaming on the TV had audio issues (the front desk mentioned it's been an ongoing problem), and the small mirror light in the bathroom kept shutting off, but those were easy to overlook. We ended up getting the audio working. Overall, the room was spacious, stylish, and thoughtfully designed, with a separate workspace, a lounging area, and a fun mix of vintage and modern decor. Loved the artwork, neon touches, and overall vibe. It was clean, safe, and full of personality. Definitely a spot I'd stay at again next time I'm in Madison!
