The service was very professional, the server knew the menu well and made great recommendations. She brought us delicious salsa and chips right away, gave us a menu and took our drink orders. When she came back with our drinks she took our food order. All with a beautiful smile on her face. We loved dining on the deck looking at the view watching the cars go by. Yes i agree with many this place is extremely expensive but i always order the torta or burrito and to me its always delicious.

We attempted to go to the new Poor Richard's Pizza last night for their grand opening. No dice and a 2 hour wait on pizza. So glad we ended up at El Tap where the food and service is always great. I ordered the steak dinner with baked potato and mixed vegetables. A great quality New York steak cooked perfectly. One of the best steak dinners I've had in a long time. I highly recommend you take a scenic drive up to Springville and try El Tapatio for some excellent Mexican food. But if your not in the mood for Mexican you can get a great steak dinner too. I wasn't expecting much, however even my low standards weren't met. Tables outside are beyond dirty and worse than a junk yard. Inside smells like sewer if you sit too close to the bathroom. Food insanely greasy, which some might like. I did question the cleanliness of the food because it just looked so bad. Would not eat here ever again. Older waitress was painfully slow and inattentive (there was one other family there.) We did have one good waitress one of the visits. She was young and said she was new. She was great. Driving through Springville, you might mistake the outside of this restaurant for a steakhouse instead of a Mexican restaurant. The inside looks like a log cabin, which I love, but again, doesn't look like a Mexican restaurant. Who cares? I love this location, because it's smaller, not as loud, and the average patron is older (and more mature it seems) than the one in Porterville. The waitresses are all friendly and make sure you have everything you asked for and if you need anything else. The food is always good, although sometimes the tacos can be a little greasy. Sometimes. That's my only complaint. We like to frequent this restaurant for the atmosphere and for the food as well. read more

Very disappointed that my bill was 2x what I was expecting. Apparently there is a teeny sign on the wall behind the hostess station which I did not see. I also agreed to having extras on my food that I did not know would mean an extra charge. If your prices are in flux restaurant needs to communicate a lot more clearly. They are on the edge of false advertising here. Was also told that I was paying extra because the price of meat had gone up. I'm vegetarian. All of my order was vegetarian. This restaurant is loved by many. It should be more honest about prices. read more

We stopped here for brunch, my husband had a combination fajita plate and i had the barbacoa tacos.. i have to admit i was expecting the small size tacos but these were regular size tortillas!! Omg!! Upon walking in I had high hopes for this restaurants. It's look and smell is really nice, looks recently renovated with cool western look. Upon sitting down we got great chips and salsa, but when the food Came it wasn't all that. My enchiladas were made using store bought tortillas and Taste was nothing special. Just stopped here on our way home to Bakersfield from Balch Park. We ordered New York stripe steak w baked potato, n salad. And a two cheese enchilada plate w rice. The steak was pretty fatty and under seasoned. But editable. Dressing, ranch, bottled. But the Mexican food. Not editable. The enchilada sauce was horrible, some how tasted canned with a bowl of sugar. My son couldn't eat it, so they made him a crunchy taco. That came burnt, but soggy. He had to spit it out. My husband took a bite and said yes, it was pretty bad. $29 not well spent. Will find a fast food joint on our way home for our kid. read more

Very good Mexican restaurant just on the outskirts of Springville. Beautiful surroundings--nice mountain views--and there is a very large deck out front with several tables, making for a very relaxing dining experience. I'm not a connosieur of Mexican food, and I haven't eaten in a whole lot of Mexican restaurants, but I must say I've never had a bad meal here. Probably my favorite is the chicken torta (sandwich). It's very good-sized (I've had some at other Mexican restaurants that weren't much bigger than a Twinky) and the Mexican roll it comes on is fantastic--tasty, flavorful and a bit sweet, but not overly so. The chicken is cooked just right and there's a good amount of it. Also very good is the chile verde. You get big portions of pork and the sauce is quite tasty. Their chile relleno is excellent, possibly the best I've ever had. The portions are large (see a pattern here?) and the sauce is very flavorful. Their flour tacos are terrific, much better than I've had in other Mexican places. They do have steak here, and I've had it a couple of times. It's not bad, actually, but I must admit that I had to send one back because it wasn't cooked the way I asked for. Overall, I'd rate their steaks as average to just a bit below. If you're looking for a really good steak, you'd be better off going to a regular steak house. As for drinks, they offer a variety of beers--and not just Mexican beers--and several different types of wine. You should really try their wine Margarita--it's a very pleasant and refreshing drink that goes down well with whatever you're eating. For a side dish, their French fries are among the best I've had anywhere. They're quite large and thick, crispy without having to worry about cracking a tooth when you bite one, not limp or dripping in grease or oil (and as good as their regular fries are, their seasoned ones are even better) and considering how many you get, the price is a bargain. As for service, it's hard to beat. The three main servers--Anna, Suzy and Maria--are efficient, friendly and lively, with a great sense of humor. They definitely make your dining experience a lot more fun. There's another El Tapatio in Porterville, and I've eaten there a few times, but I much prefer the one in Springville. The food is terrific, the service is excellent, the prices are reasonable, the surroundings are beautiful and relaxing. There aren't all that many places to eat in Springville--it's a small town, less than 1000 people--and this is one of the best. read more

We hit this place after a backpack trip in the National Forest. The food was good (not great, but still good), but the pricing and the quantity of food were not accurate compared to the menu. My son ordered the barbacoa enchilidas, which he liked, but the plate came with two enchiladas, when the menu said there were three. He told me just as he was finishing up, so I didn't feel like I had a right to complain about it at that point. Also, after paying the bill, I noticed that our two entrees were each charged $1 higher than the price posted on the menu. I suppose I would go back if I was in the area, but I would more attentive about what I was served and how much I was charged. read more

I am a contractor that was working on a small job in town for a few days and stopped here for lunch. I was pleasantly surprised. The eating area was nice and clean, the staff was fast and friendly. We got chips and salsa right away. I am a bit of a salsa snob but this was pretty good. The food was above average and more than I can eat. Coming back from a trip to the mountains and stopped for dinner. Thought I'd try the steak dinner and man, I was not disappointed. That was the best little ribeye I've had in a long time! I live in a big city and have been to many steak places there, but they got nothing on this little joint. Another in our group had one too and agreed it was great. The waitress who was a owner never came and checked on us had to order soup to go and our bill from another waiter took almost ten minutes of us standing waiting for a cup of soup. Was passing through Springville after spending the day at Balch Park campground and decided to stop here for dinner. Very nice little restaurant. It was clean, the waitresses were very polite and attentive, and the food was fantastic. Didn't expect such good Mexican food in such a small, remote town but I'm certainly glad I stopped.
